Monemvasia located on the south-eastern coast of the Peloponnese region of Greece is famous for its medieval fortress on a rocky island. There are many old structures, cobblestone pathways, souvenir shops, accommodations and eateries. A popular tourist destination in the region.

Amazing views from the town and from the castle. Get up the mountain before sunrise and soak in the beauty. Wear good shoes (it’s slippery).

Recently preserved and restored church and gate complex to the upper town make this a great side trip while visiting Monemvasia. Strenuous and not for mobility challenged visitors. The lower town is challenging enough.

Beautiful medieval walled town with the citadel up above. Connected to the mainland with a bridge. Like a miniature Gibraltar.

This is a city within a castle with breathtaking views on a private island. It allows your imagination to travel back to ancient times, 6th Century, walking through cobblestone streets. The streets are adorable in the small town which does not fit cars. Once in a while you see a mule carrying supplies or rocks from the escavation. Great place for couples... The church of St Sofia is on the highest point of the island. It is a hike but worth the view. Make sure to wear proper foot gear like sneakers. The rocks are worn out and very slippery. One of my favorite places to visit . A bucket list location!

A fantastic place, full of history. A hard steep climb to the top but worth it for the views. Well worth a visit.

Unique place, like travelling in another times! A great bravo to all the people who keep it alive and restore it in a traditional old way! (ps. it would be nice if the prices of accomodation would be little lower!)
