One of the world’s best Galleries. Architecturally stunning and a tribute to the curators and artists exhibited here. An exemplary education facility too. Free to the visitors so be sure and buy something beautiful in the stylishly curated gift shop to show your appreciation.

Exceptional exhibitions, particularly the Peter Robinson work. Grateful to the staff who explained artwork with such passion. Great to have wonderful staff who genuinely love what they do! I liked the sign on the exterior of the building- Everything is going to be alright- that drew me in to see how they can be so sure, they were right. It's free to get in, be kind and give a donation to keep it free :)

Free museum! Accept donations at your discretion! Awesome big open spaces and rooms fill with many different style of very interesting arts! I didn't have enough time to explore the whole building, only managed to go through a couple rooms on the ground floor. I really love the Fountain in Transit piece on the ground floor under the big stairs. I also spent quite a bit of time watching many video stories in the Disruptive Landscape section of the gallery. The gift shop was full of beautiful items you can take home as a souvenir 😍 Also the art imitation of a big whale 🐋 like at the History of Natural Museum at the entrance is really cool!

Excellent art museum. Current exhibitions visited included 20th and 21st century curated art works with a very strong focus on New Zealand artists. Well worth the time and effort to include in your itinerary through Christchurch. Restaurant and shop on site. Mobility access and support available. Two thumbs up!!

Gallery spaces filled with works by New Zealand artists, many depicting NZ scenes. New exhibition (June 2025) with several beautiful pieces by Fred Graham, artist and educator (who died last month). He is regarded as a pioneer in the contemporary Māori art movement. There are some lounge areas, including one with a selection of videos to watch. The gift shop sells books, gifts, whimsical items, greenstone jewellery and has a large section with children’s books and gifts.
