I visited this cute, classy, chocolate heaven while I was exploring Kansas City.
The chocolates are tiny pieces of art. Seeing them in the display when you walk in is a feast for the eyes. The worst part is trying to pick out which ones to buy. The flavor combinations are amazing. I bought an 8 piece box. I wound up buying a couple of extra pieces ($2 ea) and a dark chocolate peanut butter square. I believe it was $4. The size of this square is 2-3 pieces of the small chocolates. I also want to note if you love coffee, you should purchase one of their decadent espressos. They use their chocolate and then add in the espresso. They aren't very big and they are $6, but just soooo delicious if you like chocolate and espresso.
Not only are the chocolates exquisite, but I got lucky and Cecelia was working the morning I visited. My partner stayed out in front of the shop walking our dog so I could go in and when Cecelia saw them out there, she walked out with a big bowl of water for my dog. She also spent time talking with me about the chocolates. After I picked the Earl Grey and a chai, she said we probably enjoyed some of the same flavor profiles and recommended some more even giving me one piece to taste because she thought I would like it. She wasn't wrong! The Yuzu Mandarin is exquisite. I wound up with the Passion Fruit, another Yuzu Mandarin, a Rosemary, Fresh Lemon, Lavender, Fluer de sel, and Pistachio Cherry. She made sure I had a menu that describes each chocolate so I could remember as I try them. They also ship! I believe they only have locations in Kansas City and San Francisco. After getting my chocolates together, making my espressos, and ringing me up, Cecilia asked if she could walk me out and meet my dog. She told us more about Kansas City since she had moved there 20 years earlier. The city has changed a lot but they still love it and it was the best move they ever made. She is a great ambassador for KC!
She also loves animals and has rescue rabbits. My dog is very shy but let Cecilia pet her. She knows a good person when she meets them. As we were getting ready to leave, Cecilia said her Monday had started off frustrating and she thanked me for coming in because I had made her day much better! What a kind thing to say to a customer. She had made my trip to Christopher Elbow Chocolates special and joyful. I'll remember Cecilia long after the chocolates are gone, so I hope the company knows how much their employees brighten the experience of their customers.
I am now eating my chocolates slowly because they are so pretty to look at and scrumptious! I'll miss them when they are gone! Maybe I'll call up Cecilia to place a mail order soon!
