Chuiba Bay Lodge

The restaurant menu is varied and the food is freshly prepared with all local ingredients and seafood and all the dishes are delicious. It is run by the owners, Maria and Domingo who pay close attention to details and make sure that the guests are made comfortable and are very helpful. There is no security issue and this area of Mozambique is very safe. The local people are very friendly and kind. The staff are very polite and cannot do enough for you to enjoy your stay. The beach is white sand and very clean and the sea is warm!

We loved our stay at Chuiba Bay Lodge. The beach walk was amazing and peaceful. Our hosts, Délio and Maria were gracious and accommodating. The food was wonderful, both dinner and breakfast. The room was beautiful and the pool was refreshing and calming. We definitely recommend a stay at Chuiba Bay Lodge if you are wanting a luxurious respite.

Chuiba was just perfect, a little piece of paradise on the coast of Mozambique. Hot and humid, just the way it should be. Absolutely lovely and comfortable decor, you would think you're in Bali. It's not far from the main town, but feels completely secluded. The food was delicious, the swordfish carpaccio and gigantic crayfish were a delight! Easy 2 and half hours from Johannesburg. Swimmable beach, refreshing pools for a small number of guests. The service was discreet and Maria and Domingos make you feel right at home. My husband and I will surely return!

Comfortable and spacious bungalows, privacy guaranteed. The limited number of villa available makes it ideal to enjoy the private access to the beach. Enjoy the private swimming pool. Food were amazing. Steak medium rare 10/10. Fastest airport shuttle ever, I called without booking: the owner picked us 2 minutes later. Highly recommend

Wonderful lodge with excellent accommodation and service. Prices are very good considering the overall high quality of the place. We stayed there for 10 days and had very relaxing holidays. The owners Delio and Maria make sure that everything is perfect.. the service provided by the personnel is practically a 5 star hotel service and the food is absolutely amazing! The beach is the best in Pemba. Just walking around we could see more than 50 sea stars! I definitely recommend Chuiba Bay Lodge to stay when travelling to Pemba.

Chuiba Bay Lodge provided us with excellent service and the much-needed relaxed experience we were looking for. We encountered a remote natural setting, and a faithfulness to the local Mozambique culture.||Clean suites, well-furnished with an extremely comfortable bed. It also featured attentive service, concierge service in room, on the beach, wi-fi, and a pool. Delio did an amazing job at arranging our land tours.||Thank you, Maria and the rest of the staff, for pampering us in style. The food was beyond our expectations with fresh fruits, desserts but we especially enjoyed he Mozambique shrimp oh my gosh! Amazing! We have just returned after spending for 4 days at Chuiba Bay for complete relaxation and to unwind. Delio and Maria made us feel very welcome and were exceptional hosts. All the staff were so friendly and the service and food was amazing. The lodge and design of Chuiba Bay is outstanding with beautiful pieces of furniture from Bali and all over the world.||||The pool adjoining our lodge was gorgeous with complete privacy and you have access to the white deserted beach with amazing views and walks. Do bring beach shoes if you want to swim or walk out over the coral. Kayaks and snorkelling equipment is available to use.||Hope to return one day.

The lodge is elegant and attractively built around two pools and with a wonderful living/dining room area overlooking a beautiful beach and bay. Rooms are spaceus and simple yet elegantly furnished with Balinese items. The only real issue is the bed and pillows which are hard and took me three days getting used to. Also there are no curtains so you wake up with the sun. No mosquito repelant or nets are provided so its advisable to take malaria pills. The owners says they have no mosquitos but we were bitten most evenings.||||The lodge is best suited for couples. There is really very little to do other than relaxing. Pools and beach (at high tide) are beautiful but also very hot during the day in December. You can kayak to the reef for exercise but the corrall is mostly dead and we could count the fish we saw. The lodge offers massage but the quality was average or below and at usd 80 not a good value.||||The kids at the lodge struggled to keep busy other than with wifi. Bring boardgames, movies and books.||||Breakfast is very good and so is the food in general. Menu is rather small so it gets a bit repetitive after 3-4 days. A 3 course meal will cost about usd 50 pp without drinks which is about double of any other restaurant we tried in Mos. Staff is very friendly and try hard to please. The lodge is rated 4 stars which in my opinon is pretty spot on.||||A bit of pampering would have been fun such as cold towels, fruit and nice bathroom products. This is not on offer. We ended up buying a dozen mangos in the market at 25c each instead of paying 5 usd at the lodge.||||The portuguese couple that built and run the lodge are opinionated and continuasly involved with the guests. While we were there the clientele was nice and social and I understood this is important to the owners.||||Pemba has very little to offer. There are two diving centers, a kitesurf instructor, a few charter boats and a couple of other hotels. No other restaurants or much in terms of activities. We really enjoyed the diving in Pemba, perhaps partly because there was little else to do. Its by no means world class but we saw some nice corrals and fish. We had best luck at “the wall”. Inside the bay the vis was poor when we dove. Dive Masters Carlos and Peter are both great and honest so best to discuss conditions with them in advance.||||The difficulty of running and maintaing a small independant lodge in an area like Pemba should probably not be underestimated. I think therefore the seemingly high prices charged at the lodge may be necesary for them to survive.
