Stopped by for a cortado and a treat. I asked for a recommendation, and she suggested the apple crumble cake — it was delicious (8/10). The cortado was perfect, and the café had plenty of seating with a charming, cozy atmosphere.

As a former Amsterdam resident with a high bar set by coffee havens like Lot61 and Five Ways, I was pleasantly surprised to find Chummy Coffee in Leiden. This place serves up a cappuccino that rivals the best I've had anywhere. The rich, velvety texture and perfect balance of espresso and milk make it a must-try for any coffee enthusiast. Chummy Coffee is a true gem, and their cappuccino is hands down the best in town.

Google
Excellent experience for coffee lovers. They take their coffee seriously, and it shows. The menu offers a lot of options to discover. I will be visiting this place often, and try the wide menu of this true coffee-laboratory.

One of the best coffee places I’ve been to in Netherlands. Nice location, friendly stuff (very nice and kind actually, and they are always open for a small talk or even some questions about coffee beans etc). You’ll get really nice beverage here that’ll definitely suit your taste. I’m into black coffee, and espresso and filter coffee here tastes amazing. I’d gladly come here again and again :)

Great great coffee with many varieties of roasts to choose from. The berry cheesecake was so delicious too. Apart from what they offer, the owners are very lovely people who can give you good recommendations if you are lost with what to pick!

Google
My absolute favorite cafe. The chai latte is insanely good (I’ve not had anything close as good here in Leiden or Netherlands yet). The carrot cake is insane too! The service is always so lovely as well!! Really adore this spot!! I wish it was open every day of the week🥹

What a gem of a find in the city! Smooth well roasted coffee with perfect foam. The service is true blue Dutch and really heartfelt. Great options for dine in food, take away cakes and pastries. Will definitely now add this to our Saturday morning market walks.

Google
A lovely and extensive menu filled with the best coffee and tea variants. All the drinks are brewed/prepared with love and care, and this is what you taste as well! Whether you’re an experienced coffee drinker, or a beginner like me, it’s a pleasure to drop by and enjoy the drinks. The staff is amazing, service with a genuine smile and the provided advices on the variety of filter coffees is educative and understandable! And let’s not the forget the homemade cakes, which are also lovely! The best coffee experience in Leiden? I’m pretty sure!

Yelp
SUNDAY: CLOSED MONDAY: CLOSED TUESDAY: CLOSED Chummy's is technically open for a whole, generous 6 hours and 15 minutes, four days of the week (Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, from 10:15 to 16:30). So, if you are a normal human and want to get some coffee on your way to work in the morning.... SORRY, they don't open until 10:15, and then only on 3 of the 5 days of the normal work-week. Also, you better rush to get there before they closed up shop again, at 16:30, a full half hour before most people who work in an office get to leave. This week, they were also closed on Wednesday and Thursday. So, you have to ask... Do they even want to be in business? Also, students and remote workers are not welcome, as the sign clearly says "SORRY NO LAPTOPS TABLETS" which is pretty much at odds with almost every other coffee shop on the planet, and out of touch. Coffee shops where people can work and study become valuable local fixtures with loyal customers, who then promote your store to others. This is lost on short-sighted owners who don't see the value of welcoming people. I live nearby and I've only caught them open ONCE, and to be honest, the coffee was decent but it's still not worth the risk of spending your time to walk there, and finding them closed (which they usually will be). Recommend you just head to Borgman & Borgman instead, https://www.yelp.com/biz/borgman-en-borgman-leiden as this place is just a hobby for the owners. Their business space on Breestrat would be better utilized by another store that is actually interested in doing business.

Yelp
Nice cozy coffee shop with a lot of different espresso drinks with specialty flavors. I really enjoyed my "fool's gold" latte with honey and cinnamon, the foam was nice and thick and the drink itself was not too sweet. Nice stop while sightseeing or shopping.

Yelp
I decided to try this place with my boyfriend for the first time yesterday, the day before the start of their holidays and on a market day, so it was pretty crowdy. The experience was not awesome. The coffee was not bad and the cakes were REALLY good (all handmade by the lady behind the counter), but there is no atmosphere at all. The place is small and the tables are a little crammed, everyone can hear anyone else's conversations and it's just a little weird. Maybe changing the volume or the genre of music could help.

Yelp
Chummy is a cozy coffee place in the middle of Breestraat. Though sometimes on the sweet side, their coffee is decent and flavorful. Chummy's menu features quite a variety of eclectic drink combinations that you wouldn't usually find anywhere else. Altogether, Chummy is a cute place for short and sweet conversations.

Yelp
They take their coffee seriously here (as not nearly enough places in the city do), and as such you will find nothing on the menu except several pages of excellent coffee-based (and a few coffee-free) drinks. Filter, cold brew, macchato; italian sodas, milkshakes, frappes - this is a fancy-drink-lover's paradise, you guys. Add to that super sweet, friendly and personable owners/staff, lots of places to sit and corners to tuck yourself into, and good wi-fi, and you've got a killer place to spend an afternoon alternating studying and catching up with friends. This place is a gem!!

Yelp
We were on a mission: find Chummy Coffee, get coffee and tea, and get back to the train to meet family. We ordered to-go. Our drinks were delicious, and served to us on a platter with 2 little chocolate chip cookies, while we waited at the ground level. It made us feel special! Wish we could have lingered, but so much to see while visiting. Next time we are in town and need a cozy corner for great coffee, we'll be back.

Yelp
Our absolute favorite coffee place in Leiden. The owners are just the nicest sweetest people. So excited and genuinely interested in coffee and it shows in how well the drinks are made. Really delicious baked goods too. The interior is adorable and cozy. The location is fantastic. I have always felt so at home here and welcome. Seriously such a nice addition to the city.

Yelp
My friend and I have always thought that the coffee and the cakes here were amazing. We would go once every few months. I can say with absolute certainty that the cakes are always moist and with the perfect flavor. However, today I think we might have caught them on a bad day. We were only planning to stay for a short while as my friend had to catch the bus so we decided to share a quick cake. It was not very busy inside and there were at least 4 tables open. Many people only had one drink or snack on their table and there was even one woman at a table with nothing on it that was writing or journaling. Upon telling them that we didn't want a drink and that we only wanted the cake, they immediately told us that it wasn't busy right now but that if it became busy then we would have to leave. This made us feel really uncomfortable as when we sat down we could hear them whispering amongst themselves behind the counter. I felt that this was extremely unnecessary and unprofessional at that moment. I can understand that if we were sitting there for over 30 minutes to an hour if they then decided to ask us *politely* to leave or order something else. I think that they need to consider how a customer is feeling. After a minute of sitting there we both decided to order a cranberry mint iced tea for both of us because we felt uncomfortable; however, it tasted like ice water with the faintest hint of mint. It was not good. The whole experience for us was unpleasant and the interaction with the staff after that was very awkward and any interaction on their side felt forced. I really hope that this was just a bad day for them as I do think that their cakes and coffees are very good. However, now I might consider going to other cafes instead such as Doppio, Catwalk, or Francobolli.

Yelp
Really nice coffee and nice decor. The wifi is pretty fast. However, the owners have a social philosophy: they don't appreciate laptops or headphones, and expect customers to either drink a lot of coffee or leave. So, a terrible place for working, but nice for a quick cup.
