The Quirkiest Local Landmarks in Small-Town America
"Built in the 1940s on a wing and a prayer (so to speak), the Church by the Sea has served the spiritual needs of Madeira Beach residents for more than 70 years. But it’s the church’s unusual architectural feature as much as its history that brings out flocks of curious visitors.
A central feature of the building is the Spanish-style tower with circular windows and a 25-foot mast and beacon, (making it the tallest local structure at the time it was built). The light atop the church tower, which has since been replaced with a lighted cross, served as a nautical landmark to guide boats safely home. It also served to illuminate the tower’s unintended feature: that it happens to resemble a giant chicken from multiple points of view.
Today the nondenominational church remains a landmark and a hub of community life. A series of impressive stained glass windows blend religious iconography with images of the ocean and seabirds. And while the congregation may seek to downplay the tower’s resemblance to a chicken, no one can argue that it brings people out to visit the church." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

A beautiful and peaceful church with a unique depiction of the Crucifixion of Christ that truly stands out. The artwork is memorable, adding a special touch to the overall atmosphere. Worth a visit for its spiritual and artistic place right near the seashore.

Pastor Jeff and Charlene are loving knowledgable and really welcoming. The church atmosphere is family. The word preached is accurate and the people are really encouraged to live one another. Plus the church it’s self is beautiful

Easter weekend service was wonderful! Contemporary service with great covers of pop music. Message was definitely right on about our relationship with God. Will definitely go back when in town!

I am not religious. I don't believe in a God but I do believe that this is my favorite building. I don't know why they don't sell merch with the chicken head on it. They could raise so much money to fix whatever Church things they need to fix in there.

Great venue for a wedding! Loved the tan building and the entry courtyard the best! I especially liked the stone walkway for detail shots and candid walking shots.
