Church of Saint Ildefonso

Errehh ladies and gents! A must visit in Porto would have to be the Church of Saint Ildefonso! The exterior of the building is beautiful with it's intricate detail and title work. The interior is equally as creative and intricate with its design work and sculpting. When visiting please be very quiet and respectful, for some use this church to practice not just to admire.

Igreja Paroquial de Santo Ildefonso is a beautiful example of traditional Portuguese architecture. The blue azulejo tiles on the façade are impressive and add a unique character to the church, especially under daylight. The details on the exterior are elegant and well preserved, making it a great stop while exploring the city center. Inside, the atmosphere is calm and peaceful, offering a quiet contrast to the busy streets outside. It may not be the largest church in Porto, but it is definitely one of the most charming and photogenic. Worth a short visit during a walk around the city.

The Igreja de Santo Ildefonso is located in Batalha Square. The church’s façade is beautifully decorated with traditional azulejos (ceramic tiles), though the exterior shows some signs of age and decay. In contrast, the interior and the altar are in excellent condition and truly stunning. I highly recommend visiting this charming historic church.

Stayed just opposite this old church and museum in same building. Baroque style, small square in front of. You are in downtown with many other attraction around, restaurants, cafes and shopping

On the north side of the Praça da Batalha stands the Church of San Ildefonso, and like many churches in Porto, its main facade is covered with azulejos. This early Baroque church was built between 1709 and 1739 and is dedicated to Ildefonso, the 7th-century Archbishop of Toledo. Note the beautiful stained-glass windows and the brazen altarpiece by the Italian architect Niccolò Nasoni.

Only 1 euro entrance fee for the church and the museum! Outside facade is just stunning, yet inside is also worthy to see. It is a wonderful church, including from outside with azulejos on the outdoor walls. Yet, be mindful about the opening hours.

Nice church with tiles decorations from outside. You can get in for 1 EUR per person, but for it was more interesting from outside.

It cost 1 euro to enter. The Church is fantastic, peaceful, and quiet. If my euro contributes to upkeep, then I am very happy

What a beautiful church! I can only speak for the outside, becaue we only peeked inside since there was a small fee. Thait seemed like what most people were doing, but just the facade is a sight to behold in itself. There's plenty of tilework on the exterior of the church to admire and the blues are so pretty! We came by on a Monday at around 4 PM and it was pretty quiet at that time. Good stop to make while in Porto if you're into unique tilework.

The Church of Saint Ildefonso is really a must when visiting the City of Porto. The beautiful tiled exterior immediately draws the visitor into its ornate interior and exquisite altar. The visit costs one Euro and it's definitely worth it. We were lucky to have been there when there was music playing adding to the atmosphere. I personally loved it so much that just had to return a second time to purchase a souvenir from the shop where I was well taken care of by a lovely gentleman. This is a quiet church with fewer tourists than others. The actual closing time is about 8:00 p.m., which is long before the Internet suggests at 10:40 p.m., so don't believe the hours on Google and arrive before it's too late!

Igreja de Santo Ildefonso was unfortunately not open the three different times I passed through this neighborhood but even from the outside, this 18th century structure is worth a visit. The hand-painted azuleijos depict the life of Saint Ildefonso of Toledo, who died in 667. It is quite an impressive structure, constructed of granite in the shape of an elongated octagon. There are two bell towers. There is no parking nearby but it's a busy pedestrian area near Batalha Square. [Review 9837 overall, 1415 of 2018.]

Igreja de Santo Ildefonso is a beautiful and historic church. This was one of my favorite churches to have a chance to experience in Porto. I really like the architecture and tiles on the exterior and all of the intricate designs on the outside and inside. I really enjoyed the experience of being here and being able to feel all of the centuries and history here.
