Church of Santa Maria sopra Minerva in Assisi

A piece of heaven meets Catholic history. We so loved this haven of a church, the high altar, and quiet and undisturbed environment void of selfie snapping tourists. We spent a half hour here in silent prayer, after a full day of walking in and visiting the traditional hot spots in this beautiful hilltop town.

The gold in this church is spectacular; it looks like it's all made of solid gold.

First building in Assisi built in the first century. It was a Roman temple & converted into Catholic Church. Beautiful, peaceful place for a quiet moment of prayer.

The roman temple is now a church, the fassade is surprising in this medieval town. The stairs ate not in front of the columns, but start beneath them to save place and reach less into the square, a very rare construction for roman temples.

Being one of the best preserved roman façades, it was quite sad and disappointing to see a 17th century baroque church inside.

One of the most peaceful, most unique churches I have ever visited. The victory of the True God over fake idols.

Great preserved ancient temple facade. It is also worth visiting the nearby Museo Civico e Foro Romano.
