I visited Church Street Market / The Keeping Room on 12/28/25. After selecting a few items, I went to check out. One of the items was a sample-size bag of Mexican chocolate sugar, which was placed in a bin clearly labeled $3.50, alongside other sample-size products.
At the register, the item was rung up as $18. I politely let the cashier know that I believed it had been priced incorrectly. She told me she had priced it herself and that the $18 charge was correct. I then walked back to the display, picked up the container, and showed her where it was clearly labeled $3.50.
At that point, she told me I was wrong and removed the price label from the container in front of me. I was genuinely shocked. The sample-size items were displayed above a rotating rack that held the full-size containers, which were clearly labeled at $18. I explained that I only wanted to purchase the sample size, not the full-size product.
She insisted that both the sample size (less than one ounce) and the full-size product were $18, which made no sense. She mentioned that she was “new,” but the way she spoke to me was dismissive and condescending, as though I didn’t understand what I was seeing.
Feeling uncomfortable and frustrated, I left without purchasing anything else. My boyfriend, who was with me the entire time and witnessed the interaction, was equally stunned by how the situation was handled.
Fortunately, another store down the street sells the same product. I purchased the full-size version there without any confusion or feeling like I was being misled. I’ve included photos of the containers and price labels in this review, as well as an example of what the full-size product looks like from the brand known for its “beautiful briny salt.”
This experience felt incredibly dishonest and left a very bad impression.
