Trek for Treats to 11 of the World’s Most Unique Candy Stores

"If you’ve been searching for the world’s longest candy counter (and who isn’t?), search no more. The crown is worn by Chutters in Littleton, New Hampshire.  This stalwart Main Street store – a Littleton presence for over a hundred years – goes back to a dry goods merchant who started out as a minister, one with maybe more “sweet tooth” than “fire & brimstone.” Chutters candy store can trace its roots to its original owner, a Congregational minister turned grocer named Frederick George Chutter. Chutter was an Englishman who came to the northern New Hampshire town of Littleton in the late 1880s to preach. But something happened to the Reverend along the way that changed to course of his life – and the lives of local kids desperate for penny candy. According to a history of the town from 1905, he had returned to the United States from a trip abroad to study, and “… owing to a severe head trouble, on the advice of specialists, he decided to leave the ministry for a time. He has since been engaged in the dry goods business …” Lucky for the Littleton under-ten set, and really, lucky for everyone in Littleton. Today Chutters boasts a 112-foot long candy counter, and with a certificate from the folks at the Guinness Book of World Records, honoring them as the owners of what is officially the longest candy counter in the world, who wants to argue with them?" - ATLAS_OBSCURA

Extraordinary place! Unbelievable amounts of candy, chocolates and more. Largest selection of the best flavored fudge you will taste. Definitely a must try. Staff were amazing, patient and super friendly…. SWEET LOVERS PARADISE!

William Cloutier

Google
8-17-25. OMG I am elated to have found this spectacular candy store! 112 feet long candy counter. Hard to believe but true. Any candy from your childhood can be found here. I highly recommend putting this on your bucket list of places to go to.

Evan Bray

Google
An incredibly whimsical experience. Obviously the draw of this location is its unmatchable selection. $18/lb for pay-by-the-pound jars along the wall. If you're trying to stretch your dollar, the penny candy and mystery "grab bags" for $1 are a uniquely fun way to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Karen Chadwick-Mello

Google
Chutters has the longest candy counter at 112 feet long! It’s a kids favorite in Littleton, NH! Don’t miss it! Even the biggest of kids won’t leave with none!

Julie Abati

Google
Candy store and more. Lots of candy including some old favorites as well as souvenir type items and cute trinkets. Candy can get expensive with littles filling the bag, but they have scales to weigh as you go which helps. Cute store. Worth a trip!

Google
Loved this place. Been coming her for years. Great for the kiddos n souvenir shopping. A little over priced. Thos year the candy went from 9.99 pound last yr to 14.99 pound this yr. But everything has gone up. But I got a bunch of " Banana split" chews & they were out of the mint ones. Only thing is they're completely inedible!!!! HARD AS A ROCK . Wouldn't even soften up iin my mouth or in my pocket. So I just wasted most of my $18.⁰⁰ purchase n I wont go to that store anymore

Google
This was not just a cute little candy store it was an experience. So fun to go in and pick out whatever you want and it brought an immediate smile to our face when we walked in.

Susan E G Tepper

Google
This place is dangerous. The bulk candy section is a nice mix of familiar candies, classics, and harder to find/ vintage candy. The fudge is great too. My husband and I brought back way to much candy, but we regret nothing!

Yelp
Very friendly service at this cool candy store. A lot of the candy is 17.99 a pound, candy bars and a lot of interesting sodas are just under $3 a piece and they have a lot of fudge options...I think that was $17.99 a pound as well and since we bought a pound, we got a 1/2 pound free...so we got 6 types...will last us all week I'm sure! Oh they have bathrooms in the basement/lower floor. Glad I got to see this place while in the cute town of Littleton. Really love their main street.

Yelp
While in the area for a wedding on Fri. 09/27, my cousins, mother, sister, niece & grandmother all wanted to go to Chutters to see the longest candy counter (it's 112 feet in total). I ended up dropping about $60 mostly in savory items & a small amount of candy. It was fun to be in the atmosphere even if you don't purchase anything. This place is very, very clean as well as organized. I cannot stress that enough. Their practice for retrieving candy includes gloves & simple sanitary practices. I didn't observe anyone ignoring the rules. They color code the candies in terms of price per lb. It's easy to know what you will spend & there is a weighing station so you don't over-do it. When one of the candies ran out that my mother REALLY hoped for, one of the associates came right over to fill the jar. She was glad to help & I think she enjoyed the excitement it brought my mother. My sister got a bunch of different fudges - there were so many to choose from! Along with things to eat & treats, they have a lot of NH nostalgia & cute gifts, such as BBQ sauces, spices, local maple syrup, mugs, greeting cards, dish towels...you name it. I was able to snag a few gifts for stocking stuffers while I was there. The cashiers/associates were all super friendly & you can tell they love their job. Because this is located on a busy street, parking is tricky. Try to find Lot E (?) for free, uncovered parking across the way, up a hill. It's worth the walk vs. trying to find a spot to park on the street. Lots of people walking around & such a beautiful little town.

Yelp
This is a candy store located on Main Street in downtown Littleton, NH. This is a candy store that boasts they have the longest candy counter in the world! The people inside will help you find anything, and you can even taste the fudge before you buy it. Chutters is always one of our stops here when we come to visit Littleton New Hampshire, however, they are closed on Wednesdays... Just letting you know. Come and explore Chutters if you are ever in town, but give yourself some time because it's a pretty large store!
google avatar

Yelp
Candy everywhere and it was fun to try and find the ones you REALLY wanted to find and have. I guess I was being picky because I was only looking for a couple of things which one they did not have and the other was the Mary Jane. The size of the Mary Jane peanut butter candy. If you remember EVER having these...HALF the size of what they should be.....so disappointing. Service was good and the store just makes you feel like a kid again.
google avatar

Yelp
Same experience as in the past! Always a great place to stop in and you know you won't be leaving empty handed....

Ellen M.

Yelp
Chutters might be the World Longest Candy Counter, but a lot of the candy is stale and hard. Several of my favorite licorace candy was very hard, not soft like I remember the licorace candy being. My favorite coconut watermelon candy was also hard and tasted stale. The candy also is very expensive, will not be going back there any time soon.
google avatar

Hoss R.

Yelp
I'm 60 years old. I bought more candy in the chocolate covered area within 15 minutes than I have purchased in the entire 21st century
google avatar

Emory M.

Yelp
Good old-fashioned candy! My kids and I love it! Like anything else nostalgia comes at a price. But it's a fair price.

Yelp
Clutters in Lincoln is always our go to for our yearly family vacations. This year we decided to drive a bit longer to check out the Town of Littleton (so happy we did) and we found this location. With the WORLD's longest candy counter! And yes, they are in Guinness book of Records too! Very friendly staff, HUGE store that just greater you with the delicious candy smell once we walked in. Lots of different fun gift ideas to choose from, clothes, food goods, cookware, cards.. it goes on. The fudge counter and concoctions is a dream come true. Want malt balls, they got ya covered with a multitude of choices. A great experience checking out this store location.
google avatar

Yelp
On just about the cutest Main St in America sits the cutest (but don't be fooled, it's huge) candy shop. They boast that they hold the world record for the longest candy counter but after a quick look around, we were more taken by the chocolates on the other side of the shop. A very sweet woman working there helped us assemble a box of about 6 to take home. They did not make it to the next day because, you guessed it, they were all just that good. They made the perfect little snack or after dinner treat. Go in, peruse this sweet shop, and pick up a treat!

Yelp
It's literally been a lifelong dream of mine to come here. My dads last name is Chutter (no relation) and we've always spoken about coming here. Unfortunately, he couldn't make it, so I had to make the trip solo. What a beautiful candy store! The workers were all SUPER kind and friendly. The store had quite the assortment of candy, locally sourced items and some special Chutter's house items. The prices were more than fair, the workers were happy and kind, it was everything I had dreamed of as a child. I only wish they had Chutter's stickers or magnets so I could memorialize the occasion.
google avatar

Kirsten K.

Yelp
A brightly colored tie-dye T-shirt in the front display window of Chutters caught my eye, and I went in to buy it, not realizing Chutters is primarily a candy store that also sells T-shirts, mugs, and collectibles. I wound up browsing around for about 45 minutes, enjoying this fun store! The long candy display has to be seen to be believed! Forty varieties of licorice are offered (I counted!) along with every flavor of jelly-belly jelly beans, gumdrops, caramels, chocolates, mints, lollipops, taffy, charms, butterscotch, and gum. I had never even seen or heard of about half the candy sold here. My favorite unique candy was little red licorice gummy candy shaped like a firetruck and filled with a liquid hot cinnamon center. We bought a whole bunch of candy but a week later agreed we wished we had bought more!
google avatar

MarcandBrittany B.

Yelp
They have it all. PLENTY of candy by the pound, but also lots of familiar favorites and then some! Tons of fudge. Local jams, pickles, and decorations. Toys. Dessert counter. Friendly staff. A must see if you are in Littleton, or worth the drive if you're close!
google avatar

Justine M.

Yelp
Semi great mixture of candy to choose from. They don't really enforce the glove rule which made me think twice about getting anything from the jars. The fudge is great and we loved the other candy choices.
google avatar

Charlie W.

Yelp
World's longest candy counter. Huge selection of candy, fudge, and gifts. Street parking. Lots of fun and a great treat.
google avatar

Joel B.

Yelp
Great candy stop for every imaginable gummy candy, hard candy, chocolate and everything in between. The glass canisters line the entire wall of the store with 2-3 rows. Price is per pound and by color of label. You can certainly drop a chunk of change because the pounds add up fast. There are gift type items, jams, pickles, mugs etc. They do have a customer rest room downstairs, which isn't handicap accessible fyi. Parking is tough because it's a busy Main Street with lots of shopping. There are parking meters as well.
google avatar

Kathy D.

Yelp
This was a fun stop as a tourist here but not as a local place I would head to. Yes, it had that longest candy counter but it's all filled with the nasty candy that I toss out during Halloween like Smarties, Tootsie Rolls, Necco wafers, Sweet Tarts, candy corn, etc. No international candies or nicer chocolates. The individual chocolates sold by piece were so expensive and too sweet. I did enjoy the novelty gift selection and other candy-related items like maple syrup and hot chocolate. Fun to look around but the taste can't even compare with Malley's from Solon, OH!
google avatar

Polly H.

Yelp
Do you like candy? There are so many fun options from our childhood. There's plenty of gifts to be bought here. I love the arrange of the different types in separate jars, and also due to COVID 19, there's plastic gloves to handle the goods. It's beautiful to look at the awesome selection. I love sour power, fruit slices, and all kinds of chocolates. There is even jams, hot chocolate, books, and random stuff like clothes. I enjoyed my visit here. I think I spent thirty minutes just staring at the mounds of candy. It was hard to decide how to fill up a pound of candy.

Yelp
I don't even like sweets and I fell in love with this store!! This is literally the best candy store I have ever been to and I found it by accident. While driving from New Hampshire to Canada, my boyfriend and I decided to exit 93 just before the Vermont border to cash in a lotto ticket and find something to eat. We stumbled upon Littleton and walked into Chutters after seeing the "World's Largest Candy Counter" sign in the window. They truly have every single candy you can think of, past and present. Most of the store is bulk items that you throw into a paper bag and pay by the pound (be careful, this adds up quickly!!). Most of the candy is $13.99 per pound. There are also single candy bars toward the back of the store, specialty chocolates on the right side of the store, and TONS of fudge by the pound at the center counter. As if that weren't enough. there are plenty of novelty toys and souvenirs throughout the store. A brief idea of what you can find in regards to candy: - Individually flavored gummy bears - Gummy EVERYTHING - Hard candy - Malt balls - Cordials - Old fashioned chocolate bars (Mars, Oh Henry, Skybar, etc) - Wax bottles - Flying Saucers - M&Ms that are no longer in production (mint, pretzel, etc) This place is awesome. You gotta visit. My bf spent $22 on gummy bears and was happier than ever to do so. Bring your kids for a treat!

Yelp
Part of me wants to dock a star because all of their delicious candy made me spend a ton of money, but I guess that is my fault, no theirs. We came here on a recommendation from a friend and I am so glad we went a little out of our way to visit. This is the ultimate "kid in a candy store" feeling - I literally wanted EVERYTHING. In addition to any candy you can imagine, they have fun gifts and souvenirs for purchase as well. This is definitely a must-stop for me; Good luck restraining yourselves!
google avatar

Alice C.

Yelp
Longest candy aisle in the world!!! Very reasonable priced, delicious candy. They have almost everything, from gummies to chocolates. They are very sanitary and provide plastic gloves that you can use to hold the scooper and grab the candy. They even have gummy "brains". Their maple candy is very delicious, and taste the same as the ones sold locally.
google avatar

Renee A.

Yelp
Skip the candy buy a GOT Moose T-shirt. Wow penny candy for $14.99 a pound! Place is cute, clean and with kind workers. Been there every year for the last 7 and I get that you have to make money but $15 a pound for tootsie rolls is desperate. PS no Godiva In those candy jars.
google avatar

Kenya G.

Yelp
This was cool to see the longest candy counter in the world. And there were many options but the prices were steep. I ended up getting fudge and I all around dissapointed, for almost $14/lb I don't feel like I should be tasting buttercream icing. The atmosphere in the store was alright but it didn't bring cheer like a candy store should. I can't say I would visit again but I would recommend visiting with children as it's cool that it's the longest candy counter
google avatar

Yelp
We were in Maine for the week and made a stop in Littleton, NH on the way home because my roommate had lived there for a little bit. Well I was very impressed with the selection at Chutter's, between the wall of candy, the novelty items, syrups, bbq sauces, hot sauces, gifts, chocolates, fudges, the list goes on and on. I am really glad we stopped here though because my family had wanted me to bring home some Needhams and no one had any in Maine, well needless to say I bought what was left in the case on Friday... Make the trip to Littleton, NH and stop by Chutter's, you won't be disappointed.

Sean G.

Yelp
My family and I absolutely love this place. We come here each summer - either to the Littleton location or in Lincoln (which is also great). The selection is off the charts; quality products; and the staff are very friendly and helpful. It's not cheap, but well worth the experience. Always fun to spurge a little bit on vacation :) I highly recommend the smores!!!
google avatar

Roger B.

Yelp
Underwhelming, over priced tourist trap in a small NH town. Some of the candy was stale and some fresh. With that said, the people working there were friendly and happy to assist us. Fudge was average. Kids will like this place.... but $$$
google avatar

Betty W.

Yelp
A must stop when I'm in tge area! The fudge is the best I've had and the variety of candy is perfect! The two ladies that are generally there were friendly and helpful!! The candy was fresh - just wish I bought more before leaving NH!
google avatar

Amanda B.

Yelp
It's hard to beat a good old fashioned candy store (in my opinion) and that's exactly what Chutters delivers. There's of course the worlds longest candy counter along the left wall when you walk in. Tons of candy I remembered from my past as well as some I never knew existed (gummy pigs?!). You pay by the weight and I found it to be pretty reasonable, but we stuck with the lighter gummy section. They also have jelly beans, chocolates, and so many others it's hard to remember. They also have a fudge counter and all sorts of other candy types and paraphernalia at different displays around the store. The system to grab the candy is a bit interesting and you have to trust that everyone's following the rules (you use a provided glove to grab the candy after opening each individual jar and add to your bag) but I think that only adds to the charm! Fun for kids and adults alike!
google avatar

Jay M.

Yelp
What is not to like? They have a large, well organized candy counter with hundreds of different candies to choose from, lots of which are throwbacks to your childhood penny candy stores. They also offer a variety of gifts, including homemade jams, maple syrups, moose-related items of all kinds and keepsakes for any budget. I thoroughly enjoyed the fudge, which was on special, buy one pound at 13.99 get half a pound free. They offer about 25 different selections of fudge, and boy, the three or four sample I tried were all excellent. I left there with a pair of comfy socks, a magnet, two keepsakes (cardinals are my favorite) a bag of candy for my husband & fudge! They also have WillowTree figurines, which is always a great, thoughtful gift & has a beautiful sentiment so I really loved looking through their selection. Definitely a must visit if you are in the Littleton area!
google avatar

Justine M.

Yelp
I always stop here when I'm in town. They have a huge selection of old school candy and they also have the new stuff for the kids. They also offer many things chocolate covered, even chocolate covered gummy bears. They also have a huge case of homemade fudge with lots of different flavors...yum! Their claim to fame is they are in the Guinness world book of records for the worlds longest candy counter, so it should definitely be on your list to stop. Even though it's a bit pricey as most of the candy is weighed by the pound, it's worth it, especially if there is an old candy that you've been dying to have.
google avatar

Timna N.

Yelp
This was a flash back to my childhood of airheads, sour candies, lemon drops, starburst and fudge. This place had everything your sweet heart could desire. I happened to buy air heads, sour peach candies, Green Apple and Cherry licorice, some sour lobsters and some Pistachio fudge which was sublime. The people are friendly and if you are in Littleton they are worth a visit. They are right on Main St along with several other fun shops of all types. Its worth it if only to stop in and look around!
google avatar

Stephanie K.

Yelp
Well, now I can say I've officially visited the World's longest Candy Bar! Fun outing to take my son on. He loved picking out Candy and filling up his bag! Great selection of candy too!
google avatar

Sarah M.

Yelp
Always a must every time I'm in town :) They have literally every candy imaginable, even Chocolate Babies. Strange that they don't have Vanilla babies... Absolutely in love with their sour strawberry strips. Can't wait to go back!!!!
google avatar

Margaret G.

Yelp
Candy galore!!!! Prices are rather high for normal by pound candy but the fudge is amazing !!! Buy one pound get a half pound free and worth every penny.. Super creamy and yummy Kids loved it
google avatar

Mary W.

Yelp
Great fudge with great variety. You can get 1 1/2 pounds for around 16 dollars. We chose 6 different flavors. Would love to go back and try more flavors. I loved the chocolate and peanut butter fudges while my husband loved the mint chocolate cookie fudge.
google avatar

Jay D.

Yelp
OMG I died and went to CANDY HEAVEN. That's right people...the home of the WORLD'S LONGEST CANDY COUNTER.... so much candy... so many jelly beans.... so much fudge... so much awesomeness. Take a bag + fill it up... have a sample, or two or three. This place is just fun + the staff are really warm + helpful even though they probably have to deal with adults acting like they are 3 every other minute of the day. If you want to celebrate your inner child....this is your kinda place.
google avatar

Dave K.

Yelp
Be prepared to open up your wallet because this candy shop does have it all. Reminisced about some candies from my childhood. The kids were equally thrilled with all the latest.

E A.

Yelp
They have a HUGE variety of candies and chocolates as well as a ton of other random things to look through. They are requiring masks and distancing currently but be careful if you're worried because candy shops attract children (and adults) who don't listen to rules or respect personal space.
google avatar

Dan R.

Yelp
When we visited Littleton NH my wife and niece were craving some candy so we had to come to Chutters candy shop since they boasted having "The World's Longest Candy Counter". When we entered the store we were surprised to see the huge selection of candy they had. We all went hogwild on the candy counter and ended up walking out with three huge bags of candy. The cost here was fairly reasonable in comparison to other candy shops we have visited in the past. We thoroughly loved the selection here and truthfully out final thoughts on this candy shop can't actually be summed up in words, but instead with a slow clap erupting into a standing ovation.
google avatar

Dan G.

Yelp
Well who on Earth would have thought that the longest candy counter would be in little ol' Littleton, NH?! Seriously they have candies from the past that you can't find any more, plus tons of fudge and other yummy confections. Ok so I think its a little expensive at $12.99/lb for candy, but I guess you have to do it when you are there. I love the jelly fruit slices and they have literally every flavor. Like Jelly Bellies? EVERY FREAKIN FLAVOR! So yeah...if yaw up nawth with the kids, then go heeyah.
google avatar

Geneva S.

Yelp
Amazing! You can find almost any candy ever made and it's delicious. The fudge is fantastic and should be illegal.
google avatar

Tawny M.

Yelp
Everything about this place is great, especially the candy and fudge they make. I am pretty picky about local chocolatiers and was pleasantly surprised that theirs is wonderful. Of course the candy counter is really fun, and the rest of the store is filled with other food goodies and novelty items.
google avatar

True B.

Yelp
This is candy overload! So many different choices of candy that it makes you mad that you cannot make a rational educated decision on what type and flavor of candy to purchase. Not Diabetic friendly!
google avatar

S V.

Yelp
I've been here a few times now, and while the candy counter is impressive, the homemade fudge is actually my favorite part. There are at least a dozen flavors, including some unusual ones like rainbow sherbet and chocolate orange.
google avatar

Pat B.

Yelp
If you're addicted to sugar or in search of a candy bar, fudge, lollipop, jellybelly, gummy, poprock, etc. to satisfy your sweet tooth, you have to stop here. Boasting the longest candy isle in the world, you will feel like a kid again. You know, where the biggest issue will be finding what candy to buy. If you're in the area, check this place out and stretch your legs walking around the downtown which has many interesting shops and restaurants.
google avatar

Nicole G.

Yelp
Wow, what a find! I love candy and adore going into candy shops to get a variety of sweets. Yes, that is the point of candy counters, even for high prices. Don't come here for just say, gumballs. You will/should walk out empty handed and disappointed. We had just parked here to walk to Flapjacks, as we get our parking spot, I see a candy store! We must stop there before we leave I said to my mom! I certainly didn't know it was the worlds longest candy counter and was shocked when I walked in. Yeah, I had to take a picture. I got like $5.46 in candy and was pleasantly surprised I didn't ring up a full pound. Come check it out for a treat for yourself or a treat for your soon to be happy kid!
google avatar

Acaysia R.

Yelp
Love this place !! Friendly staff, nice and clean inside, plenty of gloves supplied for the candy jars. Baby stroller accessible & Fair prices! Each member in our family got to fill a bag of treats and bring back to our cabin. Chutters is a great little vacation pit stop to make ! (Favorite is the chocolate covered Swedish fish, sounds gross... but we're amazing!) my fiancé's favorite was the chocolate dipped potato chips !
google avatar

Gregory R.

Yelp
More like 4.5, but only because of the price. If you have a long drive ahead of you, don't stop here. You'll end up buying a massive bag of different candies, spending $25, and eating it all before you arrive at your destination. Fabulous selection and, because of the volume they sell, the candy is pretty darn fresh. Best Swedish Fish around, big and soft. There's more to it than just the "Worlds Longest Candy Counter." Next to that massive amount of candy in jars are other bins that have some tasty chocolates. They also make fudge, but I have to admit, I haven't bought any (I tend to have a few tasters to satisfy that sweet tooth). Advice: scout out the counter BEFORE you begin to choose. If you want variety, only put a few (4-7) pieces of candy in your bag at a time. Before you know it, you'll be at $20.
google avatar

Kathryn R.

Yelp
Chutters is a diabetic's wet dream. The selection is overwhelming, and the staff is very helpful. I was able to find Teaberry Gum at Chutters, and I haven't seen that since my childhood.
