The best safari-style luxury getaways near Darwin - SilverKris

"A year-round luxury retreat of 18 air-conditioned villas overlooking the Katherine River in Nitmiluk National Park, offering comfortable bush views and a relaxed yet refined base for exploring the region. The onsite restaurant serves contemporary native Australian cuisine focused on seasonal produce and inspired by the Jawoyn people, and the Nabilil Dreaming Sunset Dinner Tour pairs sightseeing and Jawoyn storytelling with a three-course meal enjoyed against a spectacular sunset. Guests can take scenic dinner cruises through Nitmiluk Gorge or opt for helicopter tours that access private waterholes, while the lodge’s pool, deck and sundowner spots provide leisurely wildlife watching; experienced Jawoyn guides can be arranged to show ancient rock art and teach traditional skills. Located about a 3.5-hour drive from Darwin." - Dinesh Ajith

We had to cancel our stay at Cicada Lodge due to unavoidable circumstances. Although our booking was under a non-refundable policy, the team kindly agreed to reimburse us 50% as a gesture of goodwill. We found this to be very fair and generous, and it shows their genuine care for their guests. Their communication was clear, respectful, and professional throughout the process. Even though we couldn’t experience the lodge this time, this gesture left us with a very positive impression, and we would be happy to return in the future.

Stunning meals and wonderful attentive service, a gem in Katherine food scene for sure. Couldn't fault the fusion of flavours. Simple presentation on a class level of food. Didn't eat anywhere better in my 3 month stint. Pricey but you get what you pay for so happy to cough up the dough.

Really enjoyed our stay at Cicada lodge. The room was well appointed and comfortable. The breakfast and dinners in their restaurant were outstanding. But most of all the staff there were absolutely lovely. Peaceful location. A short walk to the catch the boat for gorge cruise. Well worth doing.

Lovely peaceful location on the edge of the Nitmiluk Gorge and 30 minutes drive from Katherine. Good quality lodges and amenities. The restaurant, whilst quite pricy is very good.|Evening cocktails watching the sun go down are thoroughly recommended. We had various early morning visits from a wallaby carrying a joey which was a surprise.|The gorge and national park entrance are only a few minutes walk away. The gorge cruise is a must.

Just spent three amazing days at this lodge and it was a real treat. If you ask me what was best I could say the food (amazing), he accomodation (fine) but it is the staff that made this visit. What an incredible group of people who are there to ensure the guests needs are top of mind. It is located within walking distance of the river cruises and all the scenic walks on offer.

The rooms were luxurious and had everything you would expect for a top priced room. Staff were excellent and service was good. The restaurant was exceptional. Our friends stayed in the cabins and unfortunately theirs had no shower water, but maintenance fixed that by the end of the evening. We also did the two gorge river cruise. Wonderful experience.

Dinner at Cicada Lodge was an incredible experience. The setting itself is so serene and intimate, surrounded by the beauty of Nitmiluk, which makes dining here feel extra special. Each course was beautifully presented and full of flavour, showcasing fresh local ingredients and a real attention to detail. The staff were professional, warm, and attentive, making thoughtful wine recommendations that paired perfectly with the meal. It wasn’t just dinner – it felt like a fine dining experience in the heart of the Top End. An absolute standout and a must if you’re staying at the lodge or visiting the area.

A wonderful location within walking distance to the start of the Gorge River Cruise. |Afternoon drinks and canapés were a treat. Fabulous breakfast! |The dinner menu is a set price for 3 courses which changes slightly on a daily basis. There is an adjacent pool bar with a nice menu! |The staff are delightful. In particular, Neil was so friendly and most helpful with his guidance of the area!
