Our final evening in Quebec City we wanted to treat ourselves to a fine dining restaurant. While there is no shortage of fine dining restaurants here, I chose this one because of all the others I looked at, it had meal options from the main menu that I thought my little ones would eat. Unbeknownst to me they have a kids menu and it rocks! For $15 they get a beverage, soup of the day, a main (fish, pasta dish or sausage and potatoes dish), and surprise dessert. We opted for the pasta with bolognese sauce and mackerel for our kids. The soup was cream of mushroom and surprise dessert was a log of ice cream coated in some sort of perhaps white chocolate and topped with chocolate sauce, fresh berries, oreo cookies and oreo cookie crumbles. It was beautifully presented.
We did not have a reservation and rolled the dice walking in around 7 because they do take some walk-ins, although you should make a reservation if you can on their website. They squeezed us in for 8:30 and took my number down in case we could come back sooner while we took a stroll in the neighborhood. Great neighborhood, by the way! The host was so nice and said she would do her best to get us a nice table by the window, even though I would have been happy wherever and did not specifically request one. We were very lucky to get a window seat. Since the restaurant is at the top floor of a hotel, the view is spectacular. I also discovered that the room rotates, very slowly, so you get a 360 degree view of the city. Service was top notch. Our waitress was very attentive. We even got to see fireworks outside.
The entire meal was delicious, as were the cocktails and dessert. Side note: the cocktails are cheap for us NYC people, and in some instances, cheaper than other non fine dining restaurants we had visited while in town. I highly recommend the wild mushrooms appetizer, halibut main course and the steak. Man, that was a huge steak. Wait time in between courses was rather long, however. Maybe the kitchen needed more time to get the food out or it is normal to sit for 2.5 hours for dinner at this place. We did not mind. So maybe if you are in a rush, let the wait staff know. There is 90 minute free parking up until 10pm available along the park adjacent to the hotel and a huge metered parking lot a few blocks away too. When we return to Quebec City, I will definitely come back here. What an experience.
