Japanese pizza -> yes please! Every bite was sugoku oiishikatta des (incredibly delicious)!! The restaurant is tucked in the back of the Food Met on the 4th floor of the Shibuya Sakura Stage building. After sitting at your table, you scan a QR code the hostess gives you that allows you to order food from the many restaurants surrounding the seating area. When you're done you scan the QR code again to pay and then you can go. This is super convenient if you're in a group of people who can't decide what to order since everyone can order from many restaurant options.
From Ciel Pizza, we ordered the seasonal Sea Breeze, the Hometown, and the Blessings of the Earth pizzas along with a Yuzu Ginger Ale, carbonated Lemoncello liqueur, and an apple juice for drinks.
Sea Breeze pizza: it's covered in Yamari whitebait (little tasty fish that have a texture almost like rice), but it doesn't taste "fishy". My husband who's a bit more sensitive to fish flavors could taste the fish, but agreed it was light. What you taste instead are the small pieces of salad greenery mixed in with the tiny whitebaits. Paired with the whitebaits are small amounts of shiso with light lemon accents and other small crunchy greens that made each bite a discovery of flavors. I thoroughly enjoyed the palate entertainment I had with every delicious bite. Truly a dish worth trying!
Hometown pizza: it's made with the sweetest cherry tomatoes and award winning mozzarella, but let me tell you the sweetness of the tomatoes elevated this pizza to a rank beyond normal pizzas. An addictive flavor combination, but also very comforting like a reminder of your favorite childhood pizza.
Blessings of the Earth: my husband, who isn't a huge fan of vegetables, was a bit nervous ordering something with eggplant on it. He soon found out that the meat sauce was so dynamic and full of flavor, that he forgot there were vegetables at all. Instead, the eggplant played off the cheese and the meat sauce with umami perfection, creating craveable bite after bite. Yet another addictive and comforting flavor combination!
The drinks were great too! I'll just comment on the Yuzu Ginger Ale because it really stood out. In the first sip, I noticed a strong ginger taste, quickly minimized by the Yuzu flavor. As a side note - I actually don't like ginger ale, so it's weird that I ordered this drink, but I liked this one so much that I ordered a second one! After each drink, the ginger became milder and the sweet Yuzu flavor was more noticeable. It was refreshing and light, but also felt like a mature beverage minus future headaches.
