Where to Eat, Stay, and Play in Mérida, Mexico

"Hotel CIGNO blends in perfectly with its terracotta neighbors, yet its heavy stained-wood door feels like a portal to another world. It includes a 19th-century mansion with original rooms restored beautifully, a library, two pools, and blue-tiled, canopy-bed-equipped guest rooms."

My husband and I stayed here on our first trip to Merida and loved it. We stayed in a room on the top floor which was really nice - we had a large outdoor space and a plunge pool/outdoor bathtub. The room itself was beautiful! And well air-conditioned, which is important.||Both pool areas in the hotel are so charming, each in their own way. There is also a really nice lobby bar. We had an agave flight there and the staff went above and beyond for this!!! Perla was one of the staff members names and I wish I remembered her male counterpart. They let us sip all kinds of exciting local liquors and it was fun to talk through origins and tasting notes with them. This was a highlight for us!||We also had an excellent meal at the hotel restaurant our first night there. Even though it was late-night, as our flight was delayed, the staff did not make us feel like a bother.||I can't say enough great stuff about this hotel! The place itself is beautiful. The location is convenient, with most places of interest either a quick car ride or a fun walk away. But mostly, the staff is what makes this place such a great stay. I wish I was able to name them all here! Thank you for making our visit so relaxing and wonderful.

I can’t say enough good things about this oasis in the city except when can I go back? I was contacted one week before my stay via WhatsApp to give me some very helpful arrival/check-in information. They also arranged for a masseuse to come to the hotel and were available for any questions I had. The location is a bit far from the center (20min walk), but I didn’t mind because I like exploring on foot and staying in a quiet area. After a hot morning traversing the city, it was amazing to come back to the rooftop pool and quiet ambiance away from the hustle and bustle of the zócalo (city center). I booked directly on their website and breakfast was included in my rate. The portions were very generous, the presentation was beautiful, and the food was excellent! The rooftop room with the private terrace was incredibly comfortable, clean, and quiet. It has excellent A/C and the decor was quirky yet inviting. Not only is it a beautiful property, but the staff – especially Michelle, Angel, and Perla – are outstanding! They were always available and took excellent care of me. You could tell they all enjoyed being there. I even left my retainer there and they kindly worked with me to send it back to the U.S.!

This beautiful hotel is definitely worth a visit!! The location is wonderful, so close to Centro without all the noise. We walked everywhere while we stayed here and it was so easy to get around. If you're not used to walking you can drive but parking around El Centro is difficult. Now back to the hotel upon arrival we were greeted by the most amazing scent. The hotel lobby, rooms, and communal areas are beautiful and tastefully decorated. The whole staff was amazing. We got to work with Michelle the most at the front desk, Perla was our server on multiple occasions, Frank was also super nice and helpful. The housekeeping team was also wonderful! Michelle was friendly and attentive she welcomed us with drinks and showed us to our rooms. Perla was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Frank recommended great cocktails for us and shared so much about delicious local liquors. The food at the restaurant was amazing! The presentation and flavor were on point. The kitchen has the cochinita pibil down to a science. It was by far the best cochinita I had in Merida. I loved our room it was so big and had high ceilings. I will absolutely be returning and can't wait!

Beautiful and lovely retreat away from the city’s center. Concierge and staff were extremely helpful. Hotel was very quiet and peaceful, with many options to lounge throughout while not feeling the company of others. Breakfast included was incredibly tasty. Rooms were very generously appointed and aesthetically pleasing. Location leaves a bit to be desired, must uber everywhere. One of the truly better values we’ve had in a stay. Definitely recommend. Book directly through their website for best value.

I love everything about this hotelito in Merida. The decor is beautiful, the rooms are super comfortable and the staff is incredibly nice and hospitable. The food is also exquisite! They have a beautiful rooftop with a pool perfect to cool down in the hot days and just relax and enjoy the moment. If you’re visiting Merida and are looking for a nice tranquil hotel where you can feel right at home, I would highly recommend Cigno as a top option.

My wife and I recently had a four night break in Mérida and area to celebrate her 60th birthday. Cigno is a gently and sensitively updated colonial building in old Merida, great staff, great food, discrete hotel. Highly recommend.

An absolute gem! The decor is fantastic, the pools are small yet extremely well designed, and the rooms are simply amazing. Probably one of the best hotels in Merida!
