The 5 Best Hostels in Jerusalem (Updated 2025)

"Housed in an old movie theater, it has a lively, social atmosphere with lots of indoor and outdoor common space, group activities like yoga, and movie nights; the dorms are simple and clean with basic metal bunks (thin mattresses, no curtains) but have lights and plugs, and there are capsule and female-only dorm options — note there is an age cap (18–45) — and it’s conveniently located near the Midrachov, nightlife, and about a 15-minute walk to the Old City." - Matthew Kepnes

This is by far the worst hostel I have ever stayed in. While the hostel probably cannot do much about the homeless and drug addicts hanging around the front door, the elevator is non-functional, so enjoy carrying your luggage two flights of stairs to the reception desk. The interior is filthy and probably hasn't been cleaned since the British left. The only shower, which also doubled as a toilet was full of crap (disgusting).

You have to be kidding. The volume of the music from the nightclub next door prohibits sleep The place is a dump, the room looks nothing like the photos on their website Three isn't even toilet paper in the bathroom...disgusting

This place had reasonable prices and was in a good location next to weatern restaurants (for travelers). The staff were very friendly and Yaakov went above and beyond to make sure our stay was what was expected from a hostel. In all honesty, the reviews mentioning "migrant workers" are just baseless accusations, more than likely from a ignorant, entitled person that has lived a problem free life. Soap was present, (not sure what they were waffling on about there) and cleaning was done before check-in, during, and after. I also didn't see any guys trying to hit on "lone females", everyone was respectful. Maybe rejection forced her review. If you're familiar with hostels and how they operate, I highly recommend Cinema Hostel.

Stayed in the pods which were great. Cosy little private spaces with locks, usb and plugs. Comfy bed and clean sheets. Staff were amazing and always happy to help. Generally people where friendly. Lots of different comunal spaces to sit and relax or socialise. Loved the roof top outdoor area and great location near Jaffa street. McDonalds down stairs. Downsides where things like the kitchen and shared bathroom. Lots of traffic in these areas meant it could be rather messy. Some showers didn't work and when I did go for a shower my clothes fell in the water. So I didn't go again. Having said this when I went to my next hostel and it went wrong I couldn't wait to get back to cinema hostel. It's a very friendly safe place to stay. Also they no longer offer breakfast but I'd been charged for it. Still awaiting the promised refund for that.

The place has excellent location. It used to be nice designed. Now it is dirty, smelly. Out of five showers just two somehow working, but is too much expect soup there. Toilets' are dirty and no paper there. The price included breakfast - it wasn't served and no re-found. I had an expectation that the smoking areas will be isolated for the smokers but smoked were everywhere. Capsula it self was OK - clean. The ventilation was installed but not working also. It is sad place...

The sanitary conditions at this property are absolutely appalling. It is overcrowded with migrant workers from Southeast Asia (including India, Indonesia, Thailand, etc.), who consistently leave the toilets and bathrooms in a filthy, foul-smelling state. To make matters worse, they smoke inside these shared spaces, blatantly violating basic hygiene and respect. During midnight and early morning hours, they shamelessly sing and chat loudly without the slightest regard for other tenants’ peace and rest. This place completely lacks order, cleanliness, and respect for others. It is utterly unacceptable.

I had a spiritual experience and uplifting of my whole life in Jerusalem. Cinema Hostel made sure to be the support I needed to go through it. I met characters from all over the world there. The facilities are as if you were in a camp out. They’re bare, but reflect the lived experience of the new immigrant to Israel.

Worst hostel I have been to. No toilet paper, no hand soap for bathrooms, people were not able to leave the front door because the front door didn’t work and there was no one at the desk. And then coming back one day the knob of the front door just fell off, and I gave it to the front desk. I am not exaggerating with any of these statements.
