Cinema Lab The Playhouse

Cinema is extremely clean and comfortable. Love that you can choose your seats ahead of time. One complaint - people bringing very strong smelling food into the theater. We have had to leave - twice because of it. You expect that in a restaurant where others are eating - but if you are the lone offender in a movie theater, it’s extremely unpleasant for those around you.

The Pub! Highly recommend!! We have been to this amazing, delicious place three times and are blown away by the food and top-notch customer service. The menu and food come from Blackbird next door, and it is to die for. The mussels and fries keep us coming back. Cole, our server for the past two times, is beyond. This is a place where you will feel well taken care of. The alter ego cocktail is delicious, and we also love the sushi! You are missing out if you don't get a taste of this little hidden gem in New Canaan!

First time since reno / remodel! Go early and grab a drink / snack at the lounge upstairs (2nd floor)! Great bar menu, cool vibes and fun view of what's going on downtown. Jay, the bar manager will set you up! Be back soon!

Just went in to watch the new Jurassic World Rebirth movie. I have never been to a movie theater that doesn’t have butter topping on their popcorn ever!!!!!!! Was given the excuse that it was added on. Spent $120 for 3 tickets, 3 small popcorns and 3 drinks….

Bring your own drinks! Highway robbery for a Diet Coke! Their “large” is the smallest large I’ve ever seen and no free refills.

I almost don’t want to share and get the word out but… this is a must go for a family outing, date night or just a moment to unwind. The theater: Intimate and perfect. We have gone with and without our kids and found it to be comfortable and perfect volume of the movie. Not to mention how beautiful it is. The concessions: Plenty of things to choose from from the very friendly staff members who are always smiling and happy to see you. The pub: Besides the gorgeous aesthetic, the food is hands down amazing. The burger was the best we ever had. And the fish and chips were perfection. The drinks are creative, refreshing and delicious. Everyone working here is extremely pleasant to be around. Kind. Charismatic. Personable. Best part of it all is how clean the entire place is kept. Pristine. Lastly, the upstairs lounge (members only) is the perfect place to find your peace, get some work done, or find a connection with others. Overall a great experience from every aspect.

Best cheeseburger is the area. Try the toffee pudding too! A great community spot to enjoy great drinks, food, and conversation with patrons and the staff. So amazing to have this as part of a theater. It’s a complete experience and so much better than the big box places. Real food, drinks, and movies!!

I had a great time visiting the new and improved Playhouse with friends. Anthony, at the pub, was very friendly and took great care of us. The food and drinks were delicious, everything came out quick, and the vibe was remarkable. Highly recommend.

I remember going here to this very nice playhouse in downtown new Canaan, Connecticut. It closed in 2020. However, an extensive renovation was done and they opened in June 2024. What a fantastic job they have done. Cinema lab is the company responsible for the redesign. They have a Theatre that they redid in South Orange, New Jersey. As well as in Colorado. Now there's a beautiful pub upstairs where you can get drinks and food as well. I had a delicious dry aged burger with french fries. The service was great and the food reasonably priced and the burger juicy delicious great flavor. Crispy french fries The theater room itself is really very nice now. Bigger screen. Upgraded sound system. Very comfortable chairs. Not like the rocking chair reclining seats at AMC. But these are wonderful. It's a whole nice experience you can go and have some food and drinks in the pub even if you're not going to see a movie. But it's perfect place to go for dinner and a movie. A lot nicer than just dragging off to AMC for a ridiculously priced popcorn and Microwaved food. Definitely come here and check out the pub and of course catch a movie in the theaters downstairs The Theatre building itself is 100 years old. Downtown new Canaan is lucky to have this wonderful Theatre.

Quaint theatre located in the beautiful Waverny Park. Went to see Shawshank Redemption and the experience exceeded my expectations. The talent and production was incredible. The staff were friendly and helpful. Delicious homemade cookies and beverages were provided during intermission. I live on Long Island and it was worth the trip.

It's very pretty and they did a great job overall. The seating is very uncomfortable. We sat on the side in what was an awkward pseudo love seat. It was just so uncomfortable and had no center arm rest but the seats moved independently. The fabric is too hot. I want to go back because it's lovely and right in town but the seats just seemed to ruin it for me.

The staff is AMAZING. Delicious drinks. Beautiful theatre, great atmosphere. Best burgers in the area.

Brand new, great cool bar and beautiful decor!!!! Wonderful service and so happy to have a theatre back in New Canaan town!!
