Prohibition-themed cocktail bar with a patio & secret back bar hidden behind a swinging bookshelf.
"Circa 33 was known for its successful pop-up, Gin Alley, and great staff." - Eater Staff
"Circa 33 had one of the worst-kept secrets in Portland. Flip specific a book in the bookcase in the back hallway of this speakeasy-themed bar on Belmont to reveal a keypad. The code is 1933, the titular year that Prohibition ended — behind the now unlocked door is a semi-hidden dining room, with a bar window overlooking the back patio. For years, it served as an event space and party room; there, and at the rest of the bar, diners could find pre-Prohibition cocktails and contemporary dining menus of pub staples. On Sunday, September 26, the restaurant quietly hosted its final service with no fanfare or announcements." - Alex Frane
"While Circa 33 — a speakeasy-themed bar with a not-so-secret back room — remains closed for the time being, it will soon get a gin-centric pop-up bar out on its alleyway and back patio, with bay leaf martinis and hazelnut mai tais." - Alex Frane
"This 30s-themed cocktail bar on Belmont is a nice spot for vintage cocktails, but the thing to do here is to rent out the room behind the bookcase, with shuffleboard and a piano for retro parties. The private room can also serve catered snacks, like fancy chicken nuggets (“fried chicken bites”) and Oregon mushroom crostini." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden
"Brunch at this prohibition-themed bar is the speakeasy secret on Belmont: No lines, coppa eggs Benedict, and thoughtful, fun cocktails. For Easter, chef Amy Smith will add specials like prosciutto-wrapped asparagus with bearnaise and puffed pastry. Brunch runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden
