On the Grid : De Belly

"Hidden just behind the waterfront Riva, DeBelly is an oasis under olive trees and umbrellas serving up hot burgers and frozen cocktails in front of world famous design hostel Goli+Bosi. Named after one of Split’s most important citizens, everything here is cooked up fresh ready for your (de)belly! It’s a great place to grab breakfast with housemate bread and fresh fruit juices, and it will surely satisfy everyone with options ranging from vegan wraps to monster burgers. Need I mention private label house wine and over 50 different cocktails to choose from? Photos by Petra Ana Čubelić" - Leslie Yeh

At first sight, we thought it was for elderly people, but then the restaurant became younger. The garden is nice. The staff is multicultural. We had a very nice waitress from Bolivia who speaks perfect French. Bravo! The food was delicious. We ate the pizza, but the cherry on the cake was the aubergines and the artichokes. Delicious. We spent a great time there.

We went for dinner, duly made a reservation. Tasty food but miniature portions at inflated prices. Yes, we have been warned that the warm dishes are more like tapas, and you need to order more than one. But in tapas bars, you actually see the tapas, while in the menu here, there is no hint of the size, so we felt cheated. The Greek salad strangely contained courgettes instead of cucumbers. Aside from the quality, the size does matter.

I go out to restaurants a lot around the world but this one is hands down one of the best one with delicious flavors and atmosphere combined. Cute outdoor/courtyard area, excellent service very friendly staff. You can see the kitchen through the widows on the evening and notice how meticulous the chef is about his dishes. Lamb chops, scallops, goat cheese flat bread, grilled veggies and homemade gin were outstanding 👌

Wow! The food here is SO worth the wait! The menu is so hard to choose from because everything sounds and looks delicious! I had the women’s health which seems to be the popular choice and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Although I was slightly jealous of my friends chocolate French toast which tasted incredible. It depends if you want sweet and indulgent, or less calorific and more of a nutritious meal. They cater for both! Lemon press is super fresh too!! The only thing we felt was ever so slightly slow was the initial service/taking our order. But the courtyard atmosphere is beautiful so we didn’t mind taking that all in whilst waiting. Also good for gluten free too! Add this place to your breakfast spots list if you’re visiting Split!

This place is perfect for breakfast and brunch, both in terms of ambiance and taste. There is a wide selection of breakfast options. I definitely recommend trying their bagels with salmon or bacon, or getting the breakfast for two if you come with a partner. The waffles with mascarpone and berries stole my heart. The hostess was very attentive, and the waitstaff were exceptionally pleasant.

We wondered why many people were always looking at the menu outside on the wall. So we stopped and we were impressed with the variety and we also like small plates that way we get to try many dishes. We booked for the next night and we were very happy Dishes were flavoursome and well presented.

Awesome experience! We went here for our last night in Split and it was the perfect way to depart the city. We were there in the rain and they made every effort to accommodate their patrons and make sure they didn’t get wet, even though the whole restaurant is outside with no covering except for umbrellas. You could tell they were a bit stressed but they did not let that ruin the evening! Service was great, food was delicious and this restaurant will be top of list, should we ever return to Split! Would recommend the truffle butter, the pear and halloumi salad and the ‘pizza’ with Gorgonzola!

Came for the restaurant: Great overall experience, the vibes were immaculate. Wait staff seemed a bit too strict but the food and atmosphere were amazing otherwise! My favorite dishes: eggs Benedict with croissant, iced latte, and the pistachio pancakes.
