I had a weird experience here a few years ago The hostel worker woke me up when I was napping in the common area. I was staying on the rooftop, so obviously I can't sleep past 6am with the full sun and call to prayers blasting early in the morning Not sure what they expect from their guests

You cannot beat the location of this hostel.better views from the roof than the ramparts. Richard is so helpful, very knowledgeable. Our room was small but comfortable. I understand that they are working on a kitchen/ common area. The kitchen is very small and has about 4 places to sit when it is too cold to be on the rooftop. Most guests are on a budget and are cooking basic meals or are eating takeout. There was a lot of demand for kitchen space. I would return again, as the location is great, Richard is the hostels great asset and the other guests were very nice and interesting.

In general good experience. Location: In the center of Old city, convient, but a bit hard to find for the first time. View: Rooftop view is amazing!! Grab a morning coffee and sit to watch sunshine spreading on Jerusalem is magical. Service: People are nice and helpful. Very pleasant. Room: We had room 11, double bed with a private bathroom. The room is small but bed is very comfortable. However the bathroom seems quite old, with dark yellow stains in corners that seem nobody cares to remove.Sometimes the bathroom also has a rotten smell. It can be quite noisy with people talking, and church bells around. So highly recommend to bring ear plugs.

We really enjoyed our stay! The 700+ year old building is perfectly located in the old town on a side street and has a memorable atmosphere. It's somewhat tiny spaces may be a bit uncomfortable if you are tall or have mobility issues because of the steep stairs, but i enjoyed these quirks nonetheless. The best feature is obviously the roof terrace! Breathtaking views anytime of the day, cant imagine a better start then having breakfast here or drink a beer in the evening and looking at the beautifully lit up Jerusalem. Staff was flexible and extremely helpful (with recommendations, transportation card, etc), , especially Richard!

More of a guesthouse than a hostel. There were mostly private rooms and only one female hostel room. They mentioned they may experiment with opening a men's dorm soon. I highly recommend this guesthouse if you're looking for good local recommendations. Richard, at the front desk, is great and will help you figure out the most affordable ways to take buses and trains to all the tourist places!

This is my first time reviewing a place- that’s how bad our stay here was.||||Dirty, dirty, dirty. I’m an expat living in a small Chinese city- so when I say a place is dirty, trust me. Our private en-suite room was dirty and had not been cleaned properly in a long time. The bathroom was the worst- bring sandals! Even though we had a private en-suite, our room was never cleaned the entire week. I understand this is a hostel, but I have stayed in hostels all over Asia and the world, and every private room I have stayed in was cleaned each day. The bedding had stains...some were yellow.||||Also, the location of our room near the roof meant that if we opened the windows for ventilation people could look into our room (Both windows looked out onto the 2 stair wells. Making eye contact with another person while you’re laying in bed is not something you want on a trip). But if we closed the windows were closed the windows our room became a sauna.||||My advice? Book somewhere else and enjoy the rooftop views at another location in the old city. Staying on the roof did seem fun if you’re staying for a few nights. But don’t book a private room. You’re wasting your money.

Immaculate. Seriously. For a hostel, it is absolutely gorgeous . The place looks recently renovated it's so new. The finishes everywhere make it feel really brand new with a very very ancient feel because of the architecture. I came to visit friend who was staying there and sat to drink tea downstairs. It's very very cozy. View from the rooftop is sooooo brilliant!!! Well worth the money.

Are there any negatives about the Ew Citadel Hostel? Hard to find them. It's perfectly situated in the Old City only five minutes walk from Jaffa Gate. The rooms are like caves in the fabric of the city, incredibly old. Richard on reception was constantly helpful from the time we booked. It's not crowded as it's quite small, limited by the size of buildings in the Old City. And the roof terrace surely has one of the best views in Jerusalem.
