Visiting Citadela Budva really helps you understand Budva’s long history. Located at the edge of the Old Town, it was the strongest point of the medieval fortifications, largely shaped during the Venetian period in the 15th century to defend the city from sea attacks and piracy. The citadel was badly damaged in the 1979 earthquake and later restored, which makes walking here feel like stepping into both the past and its recovery.
