Location can't be beat for someone wanting to stay near the tourist and metro spots in central London. Traveled here from Paris for a couple of days to check out London. Also the staff, lobby, and breakfast offerings are excellent. It is a doable place to stay for a night or two for Americans looking for convenience and willing to compromise on American-style comfort.
That said, the place is poorly designed. The bathroom smelled moldy and did not ventilate well at all, which probably accounts for the mold odor. The bathroom is also poorly designed with, for example, the commode placed too close to and facing the side of the sink, making getting in and out weird. The tub is tall, surprisingly narrow, full of hand rails, and difficult and dangerous for older folks to climb in and out of. Getting out requires stepping lower than the interior tub floor, which can cause a forward tumble into the sink area if not careful. I don't know who put this place together; it seems like the hotel bought a poorly constructed set of condos and made them into rooms.
I am reading a book on defensive or hostile architecture, which describes ways builders now design buildings and spaces to drive away teens, gang members, homeless etc. by making it annoying and uncomfortable to remain in the space for too long. Think about benches that are deliberately made tall and only allow you to lean for a bit, rather than allowing you (or the homeless) to get comfortable and remain for a long time. Perhaps the book influenced me because I concluded that this hotel appears designed to be just annoying enough to avoid letting one ever get comfortable.
So, bottom line: stay here for the location and assume you will not be too comfortable. If my children were young, this would have been a fine place since I was always too busy with them to care about my comfort. If you have older people with physical limitations, be careful with the dangerous tub and bathroom. Also, as others have pointed out, you need to bring your own soap, shampoo etc. as this is not a traditional hotel in that regard. The area has plenty of places (including a 24-hour store at the corner) to buy that stuff.
