Citadines Trafalgar Square London

"Citadines Trafalgar Square offers 187 apartments in the heart of London, ranging from studios that sleep a couple to two-bedroom flats. Strengths: The apartments are within walking distance of London's most famous monuments, galleries, and theaters; comfortable furnishings; no minimum stay required. Weaknesses: Mid-'80s hotel chain–style living room decor doesn't impress."

Staff is very friendly and helpful and location is prime but one should be aware of the difference between an apart-hotel and a hotel. There is no daily cleaning service, the accommodations are basic, and rooms are dark (due to small windows/old building). That being said it is clean and overall acceptable. There is AC but doesn’t get crisp and cool. Breakfast is good (15 adults, 7.5 kids) and coffee is free. So just need to have the appropriate expectations for this setting. It’s hard to find a luxury hotel in London for a family of 5 and overall this was workable. Kids were happy.

The location is perfect — we could reach almost every major attraction on foot within 20 minutes. 다만 4박5일을 묵었는데 청소가 안된다는건 좀 아쉬웠어요 ㅠㅠ 관광을 위한 위치로는 진짜좋아요!! On the second day of our trip, my husband lost his bag in the lobby, but he didn’t realize it until the fourth day. At first, when he went to the reception, he and I felt quite hopeless because he was told there wasn’t much they could do. But when we went back again, ‘Daniel’ at the front desk was incredibly helpful. He asked in detail what was inside the bag and assured us he would check with the housekeeping staff. He really gave us a sense of trust and support. On our last day, when we came back after enjoying our trip, he immediately recognized us and brought the bag to us, saying it had been found. We are especially grateful to him for his kindness and help. Thank you, Daniel! We also very thankful to the other staff members who helped Daniel and checked the CCTV to find the bag. Their support really meant a lot to us. From now on, I’ll make sure my husband doesn’t lose anything again. 😅😂

Excellent. We have stayed here many times with no problems. Clean apartment and helpful, pleasant staff. All were willing to assist.. Studios are fine for two adults and we used the kitchenette for all our breakfasts. Like the quiet time first thing in the morning and not have to reach out for an early meal. Cooked a dinner or two. Will be back when able again. Keep up the good work.

Positives: Fabulous location just south of Trafalgar Square. Good air conditioning, Helpful front-desk people. Clean. Has mini-kitchen. Plenty of shelves and closets for storage space.|Negatives: our studio was very small. The bathroom had only one light so the toilet area was dark. No maid service for 5-night stay (but you can ask for towels and toiiet paper at the reception desk). Décor is modern and utliitarian wihout charm. |Note: We didn’t try their (not-free) breakfast because it didn’t include scrambled eggs.

Will definitely stay here again. Nice and roomy. Loved having the kitchenette with the “dining area”. Recycle/trash area easy to locate (around corner by elevator). Ice machine located in laundry room. Laundry area looked nice. Have to download an app to use (did not use the laundry). Location was great being located (within walking distance) to area attractions. Grocery store (Sainsbury) about a block or so away. Only issue I can see was bathroom. If you have hip, knee or back issues the bathtub is a chore. It is very tall. Do not know if there is an accessible one.

Stayed at the Citadines Trafalgar Square in May 2025 with both of my daughters. This is a delightful hotel. The location is unbelievable. WE were able to walk to most major sites. You are moments away from the tube. The hotel staff were courteous and quite helpful. The rooms are immaculate. WE all loved the 24/7 hot chocolate. I would recommend to any family travelling to London.

Google
Good service , perfect location, plenty of sight seeing and food option. Perfect for business travel as well as all key business locations are at easy reach, tube station round the corner and bus stop few steps outside the main entrance. Good coffee available in the hotel throughout the day, breakfast is also good.

Had a three night stay at Citadines this past weekend. Great location, but that’s about all you’re paying for. Our hotel room door did not shut (or lock at all), unless you took it upon yourself to screw in a specific screw on the door frame before/after each opening. Our A/C was completely non functional, which was a shame as the room stayed around 24-25°C. Asked for maintenance to check out the front door (didn’t do any good) and the A/C (they gave us a small portable fan). The front desk staff seemed like they hated their jobs from the moment we first stepped foot in the place until we checked out. Not sure if I would stay here again…if I do, hopefully it would be for a price that reflects the level of service.

Yelp
Was great service. Confidently located from everything . Nice place clean. Best coffee around 24/7 and free. Breakfast buffet was okay but recommend to eat at one of the close and great places around hotel

Yelp
March 2024, loud construction going on 9-5, M-F. I was assured room would be quiet. To be told on Wednesday that it will be quiet on Saturday isn't especially helpful. I prepaid, was told they won't give me a quieter room or refund my payment so I could change hotels. Feel sorry for the staff. When I made my reservation I was told only the Holborn Citadines was having construction.

Yelp
We stayed here three nights and wish we had known about this apartments before. These apartments have everything you need from a sofa bed, separate shower and restroom, refrigerator, and kitchen. Although, the beds weren't comfortable, we truly enjoyed the location of this hotel and it's proximity to popular tourist destinations.

Yelp
Reasonable price for the location and accommodation. Their espresso machine in the lobby makes a big difference. About 5 minutes walking distance to Trafalgar Square as well as London eye. I can say 8-10 minutes walk to the House of Parliament and Westminster Abbey. A few steps away into the theater that shows Fiddler on the roof. If you really want to maximize your time and see a lot of places in very little time, I suggest take the Uber or black cab instead of taking the hop in hop off bus.

Yelp
Location is *fantastic* - near two tube stations, the Jubilee bridge (the one you walk over to see the London Eye), Trafalgar Square and a convenient Tesco express to buy basic groceries. Clean, efficient apart-hotel with fabulous 24 hour espresso/hot chocolate machine. I'd stay here again!

Yelp
The Pro's: - great location - very close to Charing Cross and Embankment tube stations - very close to Tesco Express, Sainsbury Local and M&S Simply Food - walking distance to major sights - sightseeing bus literally around the corner - theatre district 2 blocks away - friendly staff The Cons: - Lots of traffic noise - very small rooms/apartments - no daily cleaning service (that didn't phase us as I cleaned as I went) - not suitable for people with mobility issues - a few things were not working in the apartment Overall, small apartment in good location ... just do not expect 5 star service or accomodation.

Yelp
Location can't be beat for someone wanting to stay near the tourist and metro spots in central London. Traveled here from Paris for a couple of days to check out London. Also the staff, lobby, and breakfast offerings are excellent. It is a doable place to stay for a night or two for Americans looking for convenience and willing to compromise on American-style comfort. That said, the place is poorly designed. The bathroom smelled moldy and did not ventilate well at all, which probably accounts for the mold odor. The bathroom is also poorly designed with, for example, the commode placed too close to and facing the side of the sink, making getting in and out weird. The tub is tall, surprisingly narrow, full of hand rails, and difficult and dangerous for older folks to climb in and out of. Getting out requires stepping lower than the interior tub floor, which can cause a forward tumble into the sink area if not careful. I don't know who put this place together; it seems like the hotel bought a poorly constructed set of condos and made them into rooms. I am reading a book on defensive or hostile architecture, which describes ways builders now design buildings and spaces to drive away teens, gang members, homeless etc. by making it annoying and uncomfortable to remain in the space for too long. Think about benches that are deliberately made tall and only allow you to lean for a bit, rather than allowing you (or the homeless) to get comfortable and remain for a long time. Perhaps the book influenced me because I concluded that this hotel appears designed to be just annoying enough to avoid letting one ever get comfortable. So, bottom line: stay here for the location and assume you will not be too comfortable. If my children were young, this would have been a fine place since I was always too busy with them to care about my comfort. If you have older people with physical limitations, be careful with the dangerous tub and bathroom. Also, as others have pointed out, you need to bring your own soap, shampoo etc. as this is not a traditional hotel in that regard. The area has plenty of places (including a 24-hour store at the corner) to buy that stuff.

Yelp
Overall, found the accommodations pleasant and staff friendly and helpful. Internet was great considering everywell else we stayed in europe had phantom wifi. Rooms were clean and hotel has laundry available for guests. Just beware, the machines add detergent and several items came out of the laundry discolored or ruined. We had a two bedroom suite and it was a bit unusual to have the toilet on the first floor and the shower on the second floor. The hotel is in a great location, just a couple of minutes walk from trafalger square, the charging cross tube station and the embankment tube station.

Yelp
Super cute and modern. Felt like a NYC studio apartment. Soooo close to the National Gallery, Trafalgar Square (obvs), pubs and the tube. Loved the lobby with free coffee and tea. Great great place to stay.

Yelp
We were able to get a great rate on the room and the location is fantastic. The room itself was also very nice in the sense that it was large, clean, and quite. The only reason I am giving them such a low score is the water pressure. I don't know if all the rooms are like this or just ours(310) but it was awful. I've stayed in huts in third world countries where the water came from a cistern on the roof using only gravity with more water pressure. And before anyone responds with "it uses less water and thereby saving the planet" it doesn't because you have to take a shower that lasts three times as long to get enough water just to rinse. Fix the water pressure and they might be worth a 3 or 4 star from me. As is, 2 stars and I probably will not be staying here again.

Yelp
Loved this place, the only problem I had was getting a non-smoking room, I had to really insist on it, I even called ahead of time to put it on my reservation. They didn't have one at check in and they suggested for me to check out the smoking room to see if it would work. I live with a smoker, so I thought okay, maybe it will. I hate using the cliche OMG in reviews, but OMG! It reeked. Back down to the front desk, and raised hell, well somehow then they managed to produce a room. Lucky for me I had a great view too. It was clean, and well appointed. I loved the kitchenette and being able to make my own coffee and have a yogurt for breakfast makes my day, my leftovers from the prior nights dinner became lunch, great way to economize. The location, just over the top! Walking distance to everything, and when you're traveling location is everything, okay it's next to everything being equal with cleanliness. I wouldn't hesitate to book here again, matter of fact I plan on it.

Yelp
Was traveling abroad in Europe for school and the Citadines is what the school arrange for us. The rooms are dinky . The second bed was a pull out bed , extremely uncomfortable.Room cleaning infrequent, actually had to go hunt someone down for toliet paper . Place reminds me of a motel in the states . Location - awesome, next to the embankment train station and Trafalgar Square . Also within walking distance of the London Eye ,Buckingham Palace, and WestmInster Abbey.

Yelp
I gave this property an extra star for its location. It's near Trafalgar Square. There are many services a busy travelers needs: ATM's (cashpoint), (lots of) restaurants, Boots drugstore, convenience stores (albeit small), tube and rail stations, and tourist sites. The best part is that Northumberland Street is tree shaded, elegant, wide and modern; away from the tourist hordes and tacky souvenir shops. Lots of buses drive by, but our room faced the back, AND the windows are double paned, so we didn't notice the noise, if any. My room was clean and comfortable with average air-conditioning. I say average only because it goes into power save mode when you exit; and takes time to re-cool the space upon your return (not too unreasonable). The fit and finish of the closet doors needed work. Bed was large and comfortable, but the TV was too far away and too small for the space. My guess is that flat screen TV's were very expensive at the time of the last renovation. Beware: you need to take a large step to climb into the very nice shower/tub. My family in other rooms confirmed their tubs were the same. I requested an "accessible" room for my 80 year parents, but the room/tub is the same, just with extra gripping bars. Bring your own face towel. Staff was excellent when I dealt with them, as I expected. I did not encounter any problems there. The Wifi worked quickly most of the time on the sixth floor, but my family members on the first floor (one above street) had issues with constantly getting "logged-out". This NOT a full-service hotel; however, I never really noticed a difference. There is no on-site restaurant, so there is no room service; but you won't need it. There are lots of restaurants that cater to tourists nearby. Some are actually good (I've had all kinds). Try the Sherlock Holmes Pub up the street. I didn't get to try it, but it seemed popular with locals. All rooms have a kitchenette. The halls are narrow and the elevators tiny by American standards. The rooms are small too, but not unusual for England or Europe. There is a self-service laundromat which is not cheap (about 10 pounds to wash and dry one load).

Yelp
Honestly I don't understand why the reviews are poor because I thought this place was pretty nice and centrally located in London. It's a renovated building with modern decor the bathrooms are new, the service was great and your within walking distance to trafargae square buckingham palace the thame river and London eye. I guess I have low expectations compare to most people. There are photos I took on my trip.

Yelp
Awesome location near the square and walking distance to Big Ben, London eye. Room was ready early and was great, a one bedroom had plenty of space, especially for London with a mini kitchen. Too many doors to deal with but who cares, I didn't have to sleep in the same room with my kids. Wi-fi worked just fine. Would stay here again!

Yelp
The passable decor within the rooms themselves is let down by an abysmally soulless and windowless interconnecting corridor. Walking from the lounge to the bedroom, one is overcome by a grim sense of generic inevitability. WiFi, whilst advertised, extends only as far as the hotel lobby. The rooms are equipped with an optimistically-labelled "Free High Speed Internet Connection" courtesy of a single Ethernet cable; it is, of course, inconceivable that two or more occupants might ever wish to be online simultaneously. "High Speed", in this context, should be taken as relative to the typical experience of a dial-up modem user in the 1980s: measurements consistently yielded a stream of bits limping along at somewhere below 300kbps. The all-pervading drone from the ongoing renovation work instils a healthy early-morning lifestyle, shorn of unnecessary sleep. Against all this, the central and convenient location does justify a price of maybe £70 per night. Unfortunately the hotel charges much, much more than this. Avoid.

Yelp
Stayed here end of march into April 2016 for 4 nights. Came with my wife. The room was a studio with a kitchen and island used dually as a counter and dining table with two stool chairs. Bathroom was spacious and double sized bed was sufficient for sleep. Kitchen area has an electric stove, a microwave, and a dish washer. The hotel supplies all dishes and cutlery, as well as dish detergent and dish washer detergent. There is a binder that gives you the instructions on how to use the appliances. Very helpful. The bathroom had a tub, and they supply you with around 3 rolls of toilet. If your stay is 6 days or more, they will clean the room, otherwise you can pay 15 to 20 £ for a room cleaning. You will use your key card to turn on your room and to enter the hotel at night. The lobby has a game room and small dining section. There is a station for filtered water and an espresso/coffee/tea machine. Convenient to grab some fluids on the way or back up to the hotel if necessary. The location of this hotel is very convenient. It's near several tube stations, and a block away from Trafalgar Square (a lot of buses run through here....it's also the center of London btw) Within a block you have access to eateries, pubs, restaurants, and supermarkets to either eat out or buy your own food to cook at the apart hotel. The hotel is seriously centrally located, everything is within reach, covered a lot of ground per day by going to attractions in the day, coming back to rest in the hotel, and then going back out again later at night. Super convenient, and awesome amenities. Staff was helpful and very nice. They can hail a taxi within minutes if needed.

Yelp
Location is great but the once we entered the lobby was cluttered and messy. Not a good first impression. Check in was efficient but attitude was less than pleasant. Felt like we were an inconvenience. Got to our room and though it looked neat and orderly, it smelled awful. One shower down and the water suddenly went off? Called housekeeping and they sent someone up but they refused to knock due to our forgotten do not disturb sign hanging on the door, so we called again. Prior to arrival, the water returned but when asked what happened they had no idea (strange, as previous ratings mention the same issue) Upon checking out we needed advice re: metro to Heathrow and the guy at the front desk was so rude I was shocked. I stated that is was our first time spending any substantial time in their city (hoping he'd change his tone) but no, he cut me off and insisted on continuing to belittle me and my inquiries. Definitely will book elsewhere if we decide to give London another shot.

Yelp
I Love Citadines Trafalgar Square London!!! My 16 year old daughter and I were in London for 10 day this month (June 2014) and we stayed there. We had almost no complaints. The room was smaller than I though it would be but it was more than enough space for the 2 of us. My biggest complaint was the shower because there were way too many safety grab bars in such a small space. It actually made showering difficult. Other than that, all good things. First and foremost, it is a very safe and secure hotel. You need a room key to enter the hotel and a room key to operate the elevator so you're not getting up to the actual rooms unless you're supposed to be there. The room was clean. Maid service was daily unless we didn't want them to come it. When they did, they tidied up and replenished the TP, towels, etc. Good heating and good AC. Great little kitchen area in the room. Comfy beds!! The most amazing coffee/espresso/cappuccino machine in the lobby available around the clock. Wifi in the room was great, absolutely no issues. Super conveniently located near little markets, restaurants, theaters and the tube stations. The staff was extremely kind and helpful. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a great place to stay in London.

Yelp
This hotel does what it's supposed to, but I can't say that it does a good job doing it. My husband and my two children stayed in the two bedroom apartment for 4 days. The bedrooms were absolutely tiny. My husband and I were cramped. My kids are very little, but they were cramped as well in their bedroom. From the bedrooms, you could hear so much traffic noise and it made it hard to sleep. I turned on white noise, but it still did not mute the sounds of the London streets. Additionally, the bathrooms were horrible. There were two separate bathrooms, one containing the toilet, and the other containing the shower. The one with the toilet was very small and somewhat filthy. The bathroom with the shower had horrible lighting. Also, the shower was much higher than the bathroom floor and I almost fell getting out. To continue, you had to pay £25 for cleaning services, which was very annoying. They didn't even bring fresh towels to your hotel room. When I booked this hotel for my family, the pictures made the place seem so cute. But, unfortunately, the hotel looked nothing like the pictures. You can not deny that this hotel is in a great and convenient location, but you can probably find a much better hotel in a location just as convenient. To conclude, if you are looking for a nice vacation in London, i would not recommend staying in this hotel.

Barb D.

Yelp
Great hotel. I would have given 5 stars but the pull out couch was so uncomfortable. My mother and I spent 5 days here and to save money I booked the one bedroom so she could have the bed and I could sleep on the couch. You could feel every spring in the mattress. Just horrible. The rooms could use either a ceiling light or another floor lamp because the living area is a bit dark but that wasn't as big a deal as how uncomfortable the couch was. I was on the second floor overlooking Craven street and while I could hear the occasional siren, trash truck, or loud person it didn't interrupt my sleep at night. That's just part of living in a big city. I liked that Embankment station was very close and there was a 24 hour convenient store there as well. Starbucks was also right around the corner too. The area was great and I would stay here again but only if I stay in a real bed.
google avatar

Diana G.

Yelp
I would have given this place 2 stars but the location bumped it up to 3. The rooms are in old but serviceable condition, but the decor is plain and a bit depressing. The bathrooms are really small which is tough if you're sharing with multiple people. They do have a nice breakfast buffet in the morning which was included with our room.... I don't think it's worth the price if you have to pay for it because there isn't a huge selection. The staff is friendly but generally knows very little about London and how to get around... you sort of have to figure things out for yourself if you stay here. I would consider staying here again if looking for a budget friendly option in a central location in London.
google avatar

Yelp
The Citadines was a very serviceable business hotel that is very conveniently located with in walking distance to many great sites in London. However, the rooms are quite small and the service ranged from slow to non-existent. The towels are only refreshed once per week (unless you would like to pay extra) which is nothing major but its especially irritating when its a luxury I am used to when staying at a hotel (think: Airlines now charging to use the bathroom on flights!). Plus the coin laundry machines in the building are relics and take FOREVER to dry laundry. Note: Forever x 1 euro/15 minutes to dry your towels = a lot of money !

Yelp
my travel agent hooked me up with this place. i admit that i was a skeptic--the whole sofabed thing put me off but i also knew that accommodation in london was very hit-or-miss unless you paid a fortune. i'm glad to report that my skepticism was unfounded--the sofabed was actually comfortable (they usually have a lump in the middle but these seem to have that problem licked) . my apartment had the main room (which featured the sofabed, tables along both sides of the sofa, a coffee table, an upholstered chair, a desk (from which i used the free wired internet, which always worked well), a tv stand with a tv with tons of channels (important since i was there for the u.s. election day and wanted to watch the election coverage). There was also a full bathroom and a kitchenette (emphasis on the "ette" part--the floor space occupied by the kitchenette was about 2 sq m). kitchenette was more than adequate for my needs (microwaved foods from the tesco down the street or the m&s around the corner, and refrigerator to store cold foods and insulin). bathroom had a shower inside the bathtub and it all worked well. hotel staff were very helpful ... apartments rented weekly don't get daily housekeeping or linen/towel changes, but you can swap out towels for five pounds which i did after a few days. the big win here, of course, is location. it's footsteps from trafalgar square, about as many footsteps in the other direction to the millennium bridge ... so much is within walking distance! many tube stations within a few blocks' walking distance, too ... i'm going back to london in the spring and i definitely plan to see if this place has room for me then.

Holly N.

Yelp
The best thing about this place is the location. Easy walking distance to Embankment or Charing Cross tube entrances, as well as Trafalgar Square obviously. The not so wonderful things include: the fact that I expected a single queen sized bed for my husband and myself. Reality: two double beds pushed together with separate bedding. I also expected my room to be cleaned daily, with fresh towels. Reality: cleaned every 3 days, and I had to ask for new towels downstairs in between. But all in all the location was a winner.

Yelp
Can someone just tell the city of London to shut down this disgusting place? Two things it has going for it: good breakfast and close to Trafalgar Square. Let's see, the shower had the slickest tube ever and had a huge step, so not slipping out of the shower every morning was a challenge. Maid service once a week? Really? When you offer customers the thinnest towels possible, not cool. Oh and when I finally did get new towels, I opened it and found a HUGE brown spot in the center. Trash gets taken out once a week = gross. It was like musical chairs for my roommate and I to get ready every morning: ok lets move the wheel bed, put the suitcase in the kitchen, etc. Seriously? One set of shower gel and lotion for 2 people for 1 week? Glad I brought extras, especially since my friend planned on us having plenty of hotel samples. If I hadn't already paid for it, I would have checked out and headed back to the Bailey--STAT! NEVER EVER STAY HERE.

Yelp
After leaving Paris, I was thrilled to be in the UK and found this hotel, perfectly accommodating appearance wise. The "apartment" was very small, but very modern which I like. The bed was very very uncomfortable and the television was a 12 inch if that. There were kitchen accommodations, which I did not need, but found nice to have. The view was depressing so I did not open my window shades. The room was very clean, and there were ample outlets which I like to have. There were also nice size closets. I booked two rooms, one for myself and one for my friend, she got a free upgrade to a huge apartment suite and I did not, that was not a smart move with two people checking in at the same time paying the same price, it left me a bit bitter. The location is fantastic, very close to tubes and Trafalgar Square. I did have a situation where smoke was wafting into my room and I am highly allergic. The front desk stated that that was impossible because people would be fined if they smoked... They should've just went and checked it out versus argue about it. All in all, I would recommend.

Yelp
stayed here last summer for a week, ac worked well, room was ok size for central london. free expresso in the morning and really all day. great location. am staying here again this coming xmas. stayed in 1 bdrm. my daughters used the pull out sofabed and said it was comfortable.
