The Via Via is a very nice place to stay. I really enjoyed it and would recommend it highly. The staff is friendly and helpful and fun to chat with! It felt very much like a family vibe just based on how the staff treat and interact with the guests. And it's an easy place to meet other travelers. The reason for the average rating is that the location isn't the best for exploring the city. But it's easy enough to get around by taxi.

Location: |In Yoff, which is very close to the airport. Traditional neighborhood. There are shops, banks and shawarma places within a couple blocks. There is also a beach. |Nothing spectacular about the location but nothing problematic either. Initially, I was concerned that it might not be "central" enough but i didn't really find a neighborhood in Dakar which would be THE neighborhood to stay. Everything is spread out. Yoff was fine. ||Ambiance: |Welcoming and somewhat social. They have a lovely, large courtyard for hanging out, and the fans make it comfortable even during the day. Wifi is good and available in the courtyard (sometimes reaches to the rooms). They offer food and drink, and food was good. ||Staff: |The owners and staff are very friendly and helpful. It feels a bit like a family.||Accommodation: |They have a range of options from dorms to ensuite rooms. I stayed in a room with a fan and used a shared bathroom. ||The room was clean, the bed typical of Senegal and had a mosquito net. They also provide nice big towels. The dorms looked good with standalone beds with mosquito nets but do not have lockers. ||The bathroom was clean with two showers and a toilet. The shower has very good pressure with room temperature water. ||The toilet is positioned facing the door and sink and, similar to the showers, only has a curtain. It would be nice if it had a door. It would also be nice if there were toilet paper and soap in the bathroom (there is toilet paper in the common area toilet but it also does not have soap or sanitizer).

We have stayed for 6 weeks in the ViaVia to complete a Sustainable Development Project in cooperation with the hostel. After all these weeks, we are still not bored of it. We like our cozy little workspace with many flowers, relaxed atmosphere and very friendly personnel!||The food may be our favorite part of it. Sauad, the chef, is the nicest Moroccan lady who makes delicious meals. Even the spaghetti bolognese has a Moroccan touch and we were in LOVE with it. ||During our stay, we met many passengers, interacted with a lot of people, were taken care of all the time and we just had an amazing time in general!

I stayed in ViaVia with my boyfriend for 4 nights and we are super enthusiastic about the relaxed atmosphere. The food was really good, they even have a roof garden where they grow there own vegetables and herbs. I would recommend the rooms directly at the courtyard as they are awesome. No hot water in the showers but who needs that with the weather in Dakar! The owners and staff speak Dutch, Wolof, French, English and maybe more. |

During Eastern holidays (2016), my sister an I went for the first time to Senegal. We stayed a couple of nights at the Via Via. We had an amazing time overthere, The place was very clean and the owners / the staff were very nice! They helped us planning our stay and gave us some nice tips and tricks. The food at the Via Via was also very nice (especially the Via Via Burger was soooo delicious)! We hope to come back soon!

I used ViaVia hostel as my base in Dakar while I was travelling through Senegal, so in total I stayed 3 times. Which goes to show that I was happy with my initial choice. The Hotel is a short ride from the airport (it’s possible also to reach the airport by local bus) and although it’s not in the city center both Plateau as well as Ngor can be reached easily with local transport (although the ride to Plateau is quite long) . As to the hostel: I stayed in a dorm (but they also have single and double rooms): the dorm was very clean and simple, with comfortable beds, mosquito nets and fans. But I don’t know why but it smelled a bit moist… The only other drawback is that apparently they have only one key so if more people sleep in the dorm the ones inside will have to wake up to let the new people in. I was lucky and was alone for most of the time, so with 2 exceptions it was not a bring problem/disturbance, but I would suggest to the management to find a solution (more keys). The most special thing about this hostel is the beautiful inner courtyard that becomes a meeting point for travelers and volunteers working for different NGOs in Senegal. A great chance to chat and learn more about the country! Another highlight is the extreme friendliness of management and staff alike and – not common in Senegal – all speak at least basic English and some perfect English (as well as several other languages)! To sum up a great place to stay! Thanks again for everything!||p.s. they offer an airport transfer, but is possibly better to double check and remind them shortly before arrival. At least in my case they forgot to pick me up upon arrival, but I was told from other guests that they did not have a problem, so it was probably only an one-off mistake.

I stayed at Via Via for 6 nights and was traveling solo, I was instantly welcomed as family. The staff is very accommodating and helpful in getting all the information you need about Dakar ! The location is ideal, 5 minutes from Yoff Beach, 5-10min cab ride from airport, central for most activities in town. The food is delicious, they have great fish and even veggie options. If you're looking for an affordable place on Dakar, this is your spot; good location, great food and prompt customer service ! |Ps: be cautious about prices, always double check with other people before buying from sellers in the streets or markets.

The rooms are basic but nice, there is a lovely courtyard where you can relax, breakfast was good and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Only negative would be no hot water, the time of year when I stayed (March/April) the weather wasn't actually that hot, so cold showers were a bit unpleasant.
