"When you’re on a city break, sometimes you don’t need unnecessary fripperies. Sometimes the most important thing is a prime location and high-tech comforts. citizenM delivers just that, situated inside the Amsterdam Canal Ring close to many major landmarks. The guestrooms have a minimalist, predominantly black-and-white décor, with the odd pop of red being all the more effective for its scarcity. The communal areas are where the fun is, offering vibrant colors and a youthful feel." - Tablet Hotels

The hotel is super cozy, the rooms are comfortable, and the food there is excellent. The breakfast offers a great variety, and the location couldn’t be better with the metro and Tram just steps away. But the real highlight is the staff. Wow! I’ve stayed at many hotels in my life, and this one truly has the kindest team I’ve ever had the pleasure of being served by , especially the young man from the bar/restaurant. I forgot to ask his name, but I believe he has Italian roots, and he was incredibly friendly. My husband and I will definitely stay here again on our next visit to Amsterdam.

We loved this hotel! My daughter and I spent 5 days in Amsterdam and this was the perfect home base for us. The staff was so friendly and accommodating and helpful with anything we needed. The rooms are small, but so well designed and equipped with anything we needed. The king bed and rain shower were especially luxurious after long travel days. Use of bikes is included with your stay and we had a blast biking around the city. Right next door is a delicious bakery and spot to get coffee. The location is walkable to many parts of the city and also the tram and metro is very easily accessible from this location. We were so happy with this hotel and would definitely stay here again!!

My partner and I stayed here recently for a week - we looked into the chain before we booked so we knew the room would be tight but liked the location (away from downtown it still very walkable) and the larger bed. It was a great size for us and will definitely look out for this chain for future travels. Will flag we had a weird incident that a few days into our stay, when we came back before heading out for dinner, we found food (takeaway sushi) from a local grocery store in our room that was not ours nor there when we checked in. Then, when we checked out we learned that day someone had charged two cocktails to our room. Staff resolved both issues and were very apologetic.

This is the worst design for a bed arrangement that we’ve ever seen of any hotel we’ve ever stayed in. (And we’ve staying in hotels of all kinds, all over the world). The bed is surrounded on 3 sides by walls, so the person sleeping on the inside will have to crawl over the person on the outside. What idiot would have ever designed a configuration for sleeping like this??? And we didn’t just end up with a bad room… ALL THE ROOMS IN THE HOTEL are this design… EVEN THE HANDICAP ACCESSIBLE ROOMS! ||We rented 5 rooms for our family, including parents who are 81 and 83. To have one of them have to climb over the other one is completely unsafe and unacceptable. We’re having to go to the expensive of renting a whole other room for them. But even beyond them, for the rest of us, we will have to wake up our spouse to get out of bed in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. ||And one other issue worth noting… when checking in, they have 3 kiosks at the front desk and you have to check yourself in on the screen, write your room number on a piece of paper and then make your own key cards. I’m surprised that we didn’t have to make our own bed when we got to the room. ||We will never stay at one of their hotels again.

Fantastic experience here. The employees are amazing - very kind and accommodating and made my stay very enjoyable. The rooms are small but equipped well, and very tech savvy. Would highly recommend

Google
Pros: -Silent street, silent rooms, quick and no haste check-in and check-out. - Near metro and tram, both just outside of the hotel. -It is in a quiet area of the city which I preferred as I don’t mind walking or cycling. And don’t like the crowded city centre. -Comfortable bedding and pillows. -Tablet control and very trendy and technologically advanced, user friendly. Cons: -Dirty rooms, floors and bathroom, no issues with bedding. You need to improve your cleaning and hygiene in the room and surfaces. -30-40min walk to the central station and city centre so you have to either walk, cycle or use public transport. -You have to stay with someone close to you because there is no privacy due to open sink, bathroom and double beds.

Google
Rooms are quite small and the pillows are too big but this place deserves 5 stars solely because of the employees. Seriously I’ve never been to another hotel where the staff are so unbelievably friendly, and EVERY SINGLE ONE. You can’t have a bad day when you’re greeted by these people first thing in the morning. Free loaner bikes to get around, excellent breakfast. Would absolutely stay here again.

A lovely hotel. Well situated to move easily around Amsterdam. The hotel decor is quirky, but very attractive and interesting. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable and nothing was too much trouble. Our stay was very enjoyable.

Yelp
I've stayed at a few CitizenM and this is the nicest one I've been in so far. The location is fantastic. It's in the city center but just outside all the craziness. There are lots of restaurants and markets nearby. The lobby is great with lots of books and seating areas, and has a fantastic bar. The staff is super courteous (shoutout to the amazing BeBe at reception) and nice. Checking in is mostly automated, but there will usually be someone there standing by to help out. If you need someone, there's always someone around. I really enjoyed the buffet breakfast. It was delicious (they even have "poffertjes" Dutch mini pancakes!) and if you don't want to have the €19 buffet breakfast in the hotel, there's a fantastic and extremely popular bakery (Bakhuys) just out the front door to the left as you exit that serves a great breakfast as well. Also, just to the right as you exit, there's a full-service restaurant (Lempicka) that also serves food, so you have lots of choices close by in the neighborhood. The rooms here seem slightly larger than the other CitizenM hotels I've been in and the space is optimized to the fullest. There are drawers underneath the bed to hold luggage as well as a room safe, there's a mini fridge under the wash basin and the bathroom is separate and has a great rain shower. Everything is fully automated, and I really liked my room that was on the main street because I could see things go by, but you can also get a very quiet room in an inside courtyard. Almost everything in the room is controlled from the provided iPad tablet, or you can also download the CitizenM app on your phone and do it all from your phone! The mood lighting effects are really fun and you can control basically everything remotely, including the window blinds. You can even select the days you want housekeeping. It's usually a better deal to book directly through CitizenM and they have their own app (they give multiple day discounts and have a paid subscription discount booking service) but I also found really good deals with booking.com so make sure you check that out . CitizenM was recently bought out by the Marriott corporation so also check online because there may be some new things going on! They provide large glass bottles downstairs, which you can refill with still or sparkling water at the bar for free. This is so nice.

Yelp
I had a great experience here, and the hotel met my needs perfectly. Clean, ultra-modern, efficient, and conveniently located, it was just right. Excellent service and a good price? Sign me up. My favorite parts were the super-comfortable bed, the friendly staff, and the location (a stone's throw from a metro stop and just fifteen minutes on foot to the museum quarter). Bonuses included the blackout night blinds and the smart room features--climate and light control from an iPad? Sweet! They also have international outlets for your gizmos. I didn't take advantage of any of the out-of-room amenities, but the lounge area and bar both looked pretty swell, so would definitely check them out next time. Adding a quick note for my fellow Americans who are traveling here for the first time: the rooms are smaller than what you would see in North America. This isn't a complaint--it met my needs perfectly--just a suggestion that travelers who plan to spend a lot of time in their room or who will have more than 1 suitcase bear that in mind d when selecting a room.

Yelp
Comfy bed. Cool room. Great atmosphere. Quiet. Tasty still and sparkling water (free) as much as you'd need. Friendly service. Good location. Would give 4.5 stars, rounding up to 5.

Yelp
What a great way to start a vacation in Amsterdam. Contactless checkin was so easy. Rooms were so cool. Grab the iPad to lower and raise the blackout curtains, watch tv, add mood music to the room. You can even change the color of the lights in the bathroom. Lilac, teal or "red light district" red. You know you want to play with all the options. The XL king size bed was so comfy. Slip under the Egyptian cotton sheets to help fight off jet lag for a great nights rest. Thirsty? Grab a complimentary glass bottle filled with cold water. Hungry? Fresh fruit is available in the lobby. Love the juicy pears and the donut peaches. Location is so convenient. Close to the Amstel Hotel, the canals, shops, restaurants and museums. Metro is just down the street. LOVE the eclectic artwork scattered throughout the property. Would definitely stay at the CitizenM Amstel Hotel again. Wish that we would have stayed for more than one night.

Yelp
Only one day back from Amsterdam and I am already missing the incredibly comfy king sized bed and having my black out curtains open up along with my alarm each morning. This hotel was a pretty incredible choice and I couldn't recommend it enough. Everything you are going to love: -Gotta mention it again, the bed was so cozy and comfy. -The room was compact but designed really well that you still had everything you needed. It had storage space under the bed, enough closet space, a long shelf along the wall next to the bed, and a comfortable shower. I was staying solo but even for two it's all you need when you are just using the room to sleep. -You controlled the whole room from an iPad, which meant I would get into bed and then set my alarm, close the curtain, lower the AC, even turn the lights in the bathroom pink if I wanted to (which I obviously did) -The staff! I do not think I left the hotel once without asking 3 questions. And each time, they patiently helped me with suggestions, recommendations, explaining the metro, etc. -Free bikes! In Amsterdam, that is huge. I was so happy to not have to deal with finding a bike rental. They are first come, first serve, but I never had an issue. If you are visiting this city and you are comfortable on a bike, you musttttt use one to explore. -I am used to water bottles being provided in hotels but here, they have karafs ready for guests to take from the lobby/bar area, up to their room. -The hotel is in a great location, but I quickly realized that there are few bad locations in the city. So, to sum it up, 100% recommend.

Yelp
This hotel will quickly win you over with its "smart" rooms (come on, you want to be able to change the color of the bathroom lights via an iPad-- admit it!), upbeat staff and great coffee bar! Oh, and the bed was super comfortable and quite large relative to the size of the room. You could tell they put thought into designing the rooms. The only one minor thing I didn't like was that the sink was in the room rather than in a separate area, though I can see how it makes sense from a use-of-space perspective that they put it there. The breakfast was good, too, and you get unlimited coffee (but the coffee they make for you is actually very good!) This location is walkable to the museums and downtown (or you can take the metro or trams nearby). Getting to and from the airport is also quite easy via metro to Centraal train station and then a train.

Yelp
Very nice boutique hotel nearly in Oost Amsterdam. Just past the Amstel. They claim it's in the "centrum" but not quite. It's still very nice and in a good area. Close to the Skinny Bridge and a good tram and metro station.

Yelp
Such a pleasant stay! Getting from the airport to the hotel by train and metro was the most effortless commute ever. The metro stop being around the corner and having a tram stop right in front of the hotel made our short trip to AMS run super smoothly. The room was nice, comfortable, and clean. I stayed with my sister, and we both enjoyed it. The staff was friendly and attentive from check-in until our departure. One thing about this hotel is everything is cashless so keep that in mind. p.s. careful with the blackout curtains, you might sleep in longer than you wish for!

Yelp
This hotel was very clean and convenient. I only stayed for one night, but the staff checked me in early and assisted with taxis whenever I needed. Damien was especially kind! I will definitely stay here again in the future.

Yelp
Rooms are very small but also very clean, modern, and efficient. Everything you need is there and easily accesible, Also, you can change the colors of the bathroom to match your mood. There were plenty of plugs and blackout curtains. The decor of the hotel was cute as well. The staff was friendly and food was available 24hrs. Foods was not great but it wasn't terrible either. Lastly, the check in process was pretty simple. A friend was able to book/reserve online but then wan leach of us were able to check in and pay first our own rooms.

Yelp
Fun and young hotel with an attitude. We started our vacation here. Great location near a both a metro station and a tram stop. Very friendly "front desk" and bar staff. Needed an outlet and a reading light on my side of the bed, though. Housekeeping came in even though we didn't request it. Comfortable bed. Fun mood lighting. Modern bath. Our room faced the busy street but we didn't notice any noise at all.

Yelp
Quaint and electric boutique hotel. Very trendy. Loved looking at all the art work in the common living areas and bar. Beautiful decor. Self check in was easy even though we'd just come off a very long flight.. Friendly and most helpful staff. Awesome food menu for dinner. I highly recommend the vegetable stew. Simply fabulous. Nice breakfast bar with all you can eat or pick up al la cart. The lattes / coffee drinks are excellent. Also has a full bar available and good wine and beer offerings. Super quiet and fully smart room controls via iPads. Id stay again!

Yelp
This hip efficiency hotel chain is my current favorite place to stay in the city. First, for a small room, its quite functional. There's no wasted space as a king size bed takes wall to wall dominance in the back leaving a small desk, flat screen tv, sink and closet to fill the rest of the room. The bathroom is a small compartment to the side which (also roomy) will make you think you're gonna get beamed up to the enterprise while in the shower. Lobby space is quite cozy and has room for working on a laptop in a comfortable setting. Can run a bit pricy and there are snags to be had (for some reason my reservation was problematic checking in leaving me int he lobby for 30 mins waiting for it to be sorted out). But that said, the staff is friendly and helpful...so ya we can forgive the snags. Oh and by the way, you know you wanna stay here and not near Central. Right on the Amstel. Close enough to hop to excitement but so much cooler to be in a neighborhood.

Yelp
Have contacted this hotel several times through Expedia. I booked a bundle flight and hotel deal through Expedia. Due to coronavirus concerns and the fact that New York has declared a state of emergency my airline cancelled my flight. I contacted the hotel and spoke to reservation manager matheo several times. I explained that my airline was worried about my safety and cancelled/refunded my trip and therefore I would hope the hotel would be just as concerned and refund me as well. I was told that since the hotel was losing a lot of money from coronavirus, the hotel would not give me a refund and was therefore not worried about my safety; let alone the safety of the people in that country. Everyone is being told not to travel and there is a state of emergency in NY, given this alone I should be given a refund. However, let's not forget that my airline cancelled my flight due to safety reasons and so I don't even have a way to get to the country. This hotel company and the reservation manager care more about a few bucks than the safety of its customers. Ridiculous!!
