Yelp
I stayed there for one night with my boyfriend, and we loved it! Would gladly stay there again, and would be eager to try the other citizenM locations in other cities. Perhaps we are the exact target demographic for this hotel, because we laughed at all the little jokes, funny bits of text scattered in odd places throughout, e.g. the hairdryer is stored in a little sack, printed with "ssshhh... the hairdryer is sleeping."
Anyway citizenM Rotterdam was just what we needed: reasonable price, creative and interesting vibe, super-comfortable bed, great location, yummy breakfast, and really really friendly staff. Seriously, all the staff who we interacted with were really nice and over-the-top helpful, with local recommendations, with helping us look up our train information online and print it out for us, etc etc.
The bed is HUGE and very comfy. The room is small. So the idea of this hotel is that you should feel welcome to use the public areas of the hotel. The lounge/bar area is set up with tables where you can work on your laptop, and cozy seating areas with couches, TV's, and books. We would have been happy to spend more time relaxing in this lounge but our visit was too short for much of that.
The bathroom is compact but we found it to be very nice, with a luxurious shower. We had no problems with the water as some guests reported. The bathroom does have a translucent wall, but you cannot see through it at all from the room. In fact the toilet/bathroom area seemed very well-designed, especially so that the person using the toilet gets enough privacy, unlike some other "modern" hotels I have visited where they seem to think that lovers sharing a hotel room want to watch each other use the toilet!
We did notice a few glitches with the high-tech system for controlling lights, etc in the room. The window curtain and blind are controlled electronically by switches on the wall and also from the tablet controller. In both cases the curtain and blind were often slow to respond, leading to confusing and repeated pressing of the buttons, waiting for something to happen. But in the end we managed to get it working. Regarding the lights, we actually never managed to do something as simple as turn off the overhead lights while leaving the bedside lamp on. At the time we found this humorous and silly considering that everything was supposed to be so high-tech. But I could see how it could be annoying if you stayed for several nights and if you really needed that bedside lamp. We had fun playing with the colored mood lighting.
Overall we had a lovely stay at this hotel and would highly recommend it.
