"Why we love it: A peaceful eco-lodge on Dominica’s “wild” southeast coast Highlights: - A “barefoot luxury” vibe - Proximity to the beach - Villas surrounded by a working fruit plantation The Review: An agritourism pioneer, Citrus Creek blends hospitality with a tropical fruit plantation on Dominica’s rugged east coast. In building the resort, owner Hervé “RV” Nizard repurposed parts of his 20-acre farm in Taberi, adding a dozen self-catering cottages and villas. Ranging from one to three bedrooms, the accommodations include a safari tent and a stone tree house. Focused on nature, Citrus Creek trades TVs for rainforest hikes and a swimming pool for plunges in a pristine river. The property also lacks air-conditioning, but shade trees and prevailing winds keep it comfortable year-round and help maintain a “barefoot luxury” vibe. Each room has a kitchen, stocked with breakfast goodies like tea, coffee, bread, butter, jam, and honey. For those who would rather dine out, a cafe offers half-board plans and operates every day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (or later with reservations). Take your dinner on the veranda overlooking the river, choosing among French-Caribbean delicacies like onion pie, caramel pork, grilled lionfish, and smoked marlin quiche. Other on-site perks include a tour desk, car rentals, and, soon, a pier set within the jungle that will be equipped to welcome sailboats."

We eventually made it back to Citrus Creek. Our first time back after Hurricane Maria. It looks amazing, the foliage is so lush and everything is in great condition. We stayed in Guava-Cherry again and due to all of the foliage being so lush and grown, it is more private than ever. The river running in front of the cottage is amazing for dips in the cool water. We sat at the river's edge every morning and afternoon to have our tea/coffee dipping our feet in the water as it runs by. What a lovely experience.|We ate dinner at the restaurant both nights that we were there and the food is amazing! Chef Patrice is a very talented chef and puts real "love" into his meals and it shows! Maryl, his wife, is lovely and we had lovely long chats with her. Herve and Ann are very lucky to have them there. We also got to catch up with Herve and Ann which was so lovely to see them both so happy and healthy! We will be back soon again!

Spent four nights in early June 2024. Amazing place. Citrus Creek was quiet, scenic and and the grounds were gorgeous. Wildlife was everywhere - occasionally inside our cottage - but was expected given the location. Bit of a voyage to get there - but again, expected given the location. Food at the restaurant was spectacular! Would definitely return. Patti and Fred

The food was excellent and the managers of the hotel very warm and welcoming. They very kindly provided with some local food and fruits. The location is also charming. However, the bedroom became infested with giant cockroaches at night. They were everywhere and even found their way inside our bags and toiletries. I raised it in person to the manager who told me it never happened before at this scale. I would not recommend staying overnight if you are not closely acquainted with cockroaches.

We made reservations there for dinner. We were greeted by a French couple who were the owners, and they personally went over the menu. The sald we ordered was delicious; tangy, fresh, and flavorful. The main course was fish with tasty pasta and eggplant side dishes. The dessert was a yummy assortment of cakes, fruits, whipped cream and ice cream. The atmosphere was as cozy as it gets. We loved it. My only regret is that we were only there for one meal. We would have loved to have gone back for more.

We spent two nights in one of these cottages and were not disappointed. They are all different, nicely equipped and perfectly hidden along the river, allowing to enjoy the place in perfect tranquility. Very pleasant and relaxing. The breakfast (very French, basically bread based only) has to be self prepared but all ingredients are available in the open kitchen on the terrace. Add a very professional welcome and a charming, excellent and reasonably priced restaurant over the river the and this makes for an highly recommended place. |Among minor criticisms, note that satellite provided internet works very well but is limited (although sufficient for mail and news reading) and that the double bed isn’t very wide... and we were also surprised that no room cleaning was provided (which was of course not much of a problem for 2 nights but the information should have been provided). Still a very nice hotel out of the beaten tracks, worth the (splendid) drive.

Four of us traveling, stayed at Vanil Vaness. The colors that Tana decorated her place with are beyond happy. Every single space of the cottage is painted or done with mosaic. When you enter the second level of the cottage, there are glass blocks in the painted floor, letting light in. Was blown away the minute I walked through the front door.||Vanil Vaness was spotless, and decorated with local flowers, and surprises at every turn. I can't say enough about how magical it felt, like we were transported to a special hide awy in the forest.||Tana also made the experience so very special. She delivered fresh baked bread every morning(and we took the leftovers when we departed), and fresh passion fruit juice. What a heavenly way to start each new day. She was so gracious and friendly and helpful.||We took two full day tours. Ossie was our guide. I can honestly say, of all my travels all over central and South America, he is hands down the best guide I have ever had. His love for his country, combined with his vast knowledge of the local plants, trees, fruits, and local attractions was stunning. We stopped at the local Farmacy which was the best, and also local restaurants. Tana worked with Ossie to make sure we saw the best of everything.||The food at Citrus Creek was also outstanding. I am a French trained professional chef, and truly enjoyed the tarragon chicken(wowsa), the marlin, and the parrot fish. Portions were huge, like they are all over the country. The gentleman chef was very gracious and friendly. Loved loved loved the dinners!!!||We will be returning again next year, and enjoying Tana's gracious hospitality again. Thank you Citrus Creek for one of the best trips of my life!!!

Terrific hosts all the way around! Our rental car actually broke down right at their entrance which was a bummer of course, but the staff was so helpful and had us towed out of the way within minutes. The cottage was perfectly tucked away with private river access. We hiked up and down the river which was a fun way to spend half the day. And dinner at Riverside cafe was delicious - be sure to get a reservation.
