City Backpackers Hostel Stockholm

Great hostel! The 8-bed female dorm is large and very clean. The location is perfect. The atmosphere is lively but not too loud. I felt safe, as there are multiple doors and access codes. I suggest adding curtains to the beds to make them even more comfortable.

Honestly one of my favorite hostels I've ever stayed at. The whole place is cleaned every day. Rooms are spacious. Kitchen is incredibly well equipped. Each room gets their own fridge. Common area is cozy. Workers are super friendly. The big common area and kitchen makes it easy to meet people. My room (12 person dorm) had a window, but do be aware that many of the rooms do not have windows as most of the hostel is underground.

One of the best, if not the best hostel in the heart of Stockholm. The staff was excellent and very helpful. We stayed in a 4 person bedroom and had a great time. The facilities such as the sauna and the lounge area were great as well. I would recommend renting bikes from the hostel (the prices are budget friendly) and explore the beautiful city this way. I would definitely recommend this place to any traveller coming to Stockholm.

Sometimes I feel like I give 5 stars too easily — but this place truly deserves it! The staff is incredibly friendly, which already sets a great tone. But the real highlight is the accommodation itself. It’s got everything you need, all in a very cozy and spotless setting. And the best part? There’s even a sauna — in a hostel! That’s just wild. Highly recommended! The location is also just perfect.

Great ambience. Rooms and the toilets were clean. The staff were friendly as well. The only issue I had was, non of the beds had any curtains, so there was no privacy at all.

Me and my friend had an amazing time. All of the staff was really amazing, friendly and we felt very comfortable and welcomed. The accommodation is also in great condition. Warm, cozy rooms and an overall wonderful atmosphere ! Would definitely visit again !

Would I stay here again? Definitely YES!! Was my best hostel experience, I felt comfort throughout my stay. Nevertheless, I do have some feedback: 1- linen fee can be included in the price to avoid a second payment hustle for both parties 2- I stayed in a 4women room, and I wished there were some curtain around each bed to have a bit of privacy.

I would definitely recommend this hostel. The atmosphere was extraordinary. The wooden finishes, the windows, the hostel makes you feel like you are in the north with everything. The rooms were clean, comfortable and quiet. The staff was friendly, the social area was very nice, I would definitely recommend it if you are a solo traveler, and I would also recommend it even if you aren't. In addition bicycles can be rented from the hostel (it was expensive😔)

Touted as a "posh hostel," I expected much more. I guess that's what I get for trying to be cheap, as I only paid $130 for 4 nights. The lobby area was cute, with a nice area to sit and chill by the window. However, the room (I chose the 4 female only option) was kind of bare bones with 2 bunk beds, small 1 seater couch seat, lockers (need to bring your own lock) and a large window. Also, during check in, I had to pay 35 SEK for sheets (one time fee, but still). On top of that, towels were 30 SEK and I couldn't even get 1 the first night because I returned after hours, which was quite early at 8PM. I was pretty upset about that. I've stayed in hostels all throughout Europe and NEVER had to pay for sheets and / or towel, but I later learned this is common in Scandinavia. Location is very central and in the city center. It is walking distance from the train station, shops, bakeries for Fika, restaurants, the park near Royal Palace, Gamla Stan (old town), along with T-Central (and others) metro station. The hostel uses a code system for access to the courtyard to get to the rooms (which changes each day), the room itself, as well as for night entrance. All the codes are listed on a small piece of paper, and is attached to a map of the space. Before entering the main area where all the rooms were, there was a place to put shoes, which I didn't mind doing. One morning I put my boots down for a few seconds and when I got back, they were not in the same spot I left them. The staff was great about this though, as they checked the cameras and located my boots. After that I didn't trust leaving them there and carried them to the room. There was a downstairs common area, which includes a kitchen with free pasta (have to bring your own sauce though), cozy hang out area, and showers. I went down here with one of my roommates and quickly made friends. I ended up chilling here after exploring the city for 2 nights in a row, just chatting with fellow travelers. Definitely a great place to socialize! After around 11PM, we were asked in a very gentle way to keep the noise level to a minimum, which I thought was a considerate gesture for other guests. The place offers a breakfast, which costs 95 SEK. This consists of a berry smoothie (or orange juice) and ham with cheese panini (or mozzarella with tomato), which was pretty tasty. I think it should have also came with coffee. The folks working here were nice and friendly. They even have a way to chat with them after hours on WhatsApp, even though they couldn't help me with the towel situation since I hadn't paid for one. Overall, these were decent accommodations, at an awesome price point, but some improvements can definitely be made.

Had a really great experience here. Staff is really friendly and made the stay great! Check in was quick and easy. The rooms are fairly nice, I was in a huge dorm with many beds (I think 12 total) and it was a fairly good experience. There were many other solo travelers my age so it was really easy to meet people and everyone was so friendly. The hostel was very clean which is what I liked most. It is required that you take your shoes off when inside, which helped with the cleanliness and I really respected. The kitchen is also really large for a hostel which was nice to be able to buy groceries and come back to cook them. Overall I had a great experience here, my favorite hostel out of the 6 I stayed at across Sweden, Denmark, and Norway. Would definitely return when in Stockholm again

A hip, cool hostel. Security is great as they change the codes daily and it's a keyless entry. It's attached to Nomads Swedish Food & Bar which has great Swedish meatballs and discounted if you're staying at the hostel! My room was shared with 5 other beds and was clean and cozy. Came with a locker, had a couch and a mirror! Only complaint I would say is the noise/music coming from the restaurant in the evenings. Perhaps try asking for a quiet area of the building if this type of stuff keeps you up. Luckily I have headphones but was still buzzing thru the walls. The shower area with the sauna was really nice. The other showers were smaller. Luckily I showered early to avoid any waits. They kept it clean and didn't feel grossed out! All in all, a great way to explore Stockholm for the first time - super walkable to everything! I only took the train from the airport then walked everywhere - no need for buses or trains unless you plan to travel outside of the city.

Stayed here on recommendation from a friend of a friend. From the get-go, the staff was friendly as could be, offering to store my luggage in the secured basement downstairs until my room was ready. They'll also happily refer you to nearby sights to see, places to eat, and just general things to do in the area. Rooms, common areas, and bathrooms were super clean. I stayed here in November, in the off-season for tourists, but there were still a good amount of travelers staying at the hostel which made it easy to make friends. Lodging was very reasonable for the area, at around $90 for three nights - I spoke with a couple other visitors who paid over $100 for the same time and uncomfortably cramped accomodations in the neighborhood, so highly recommend staying here to any travelers in Stockholm. There's a kitchen downstairs with free pasta (no free sauce), and the front desk sells sandwiches and pastries for pretty cheap prices (the Swedish cinammon buns are my favorite). There's also a small restaurant connected to the courtyard (Nomad) that serves decent beer (note: you'll be hard-pressed to find anything above 4% alcohol content in Stockholm). The hostel occasionally hosts events for groups from CouchSurfing (while I was there, there was a group pancake night in a tent in the courtyard), and if you check the bulletin boards you can find opportunities to tour the area, take cooking classes, etc. Five stars!

One of the best kept hostels I've ever visited! Very clean. Breakfast was perfect for the hostel. Had everythinf one might need to purchase, from towels and sheets to locks.

My first hostel experience and this was perfect! I felt safe in a foreign country. It's very close to everything. The common areas are cool and decorated in a fun way. The kitchen is great for saving on meals and there are plenty of restrooms. The coffee shop inside the hostel is also nice and you cannot beat the price...and free wifi!

Amazing facilities. The hostel is clean, cozy, well decorated and the location is convenient. They offer apartments as well as rooms and there are private individual showers and bathroom , in addition to a sauna. I'm really happy I decided to stay here.

Highly recommend! I had a great time during my stay. Common area and Cafe is nicely set up to meet new people. I've also met some now newly minted friends on the free walking tours that have been staying at other hostels nearby and have converted change their reservations to stay at CBP. Very clean, safe and the staff are super friendly and helpful! WiFi everywhere. All private bathrooms. Daily changing security codes for the night entrance. Free food. Awesome.

We came here for what we thought would be a social experience only to find nobody talking to anyone. Almost entirely males sitting around on their iPhones in the small common area. The majority of the rooms are in the basement that gets no natural light. After 4 days, we began referring to it as "the dungeon". The pub crawl that was promised was actually just a 3rd party service that started a mile away. The bar on site is a restaurant and not part of the hostel that is usually closed. The bathrooms are extremely small with separate toilets and shower rooms. Most right next to common areas which makes it not private at all. The showers don't even attempt to keep the water in the shower area and it gets everywhere so they provide a squeegee for you to push it towards the drain - which doesn't work. Having come from a hostel in Copenhagen that was so much better, we were pretty disappointed.

Stayed here with one friend for two nights in a private room in late September 2019. Overall, we very much enjoyed our experience and stay. The check in process was extremely easy and straight forward, and we even had the option to split the bill or pay all together. I didn't catch the woman's name who helped us, but she was extremely friendly. The room itself was small but as advertised and just what we were looking for. It was also very clean. However, our window opened directly up to some construction that is currently underway for the building which led to us deciding between loud noise or no fresh air. The common spaces (showers, couches, etc.,) were all satisfactory. Aside from the construction, I've deducted one star from two other negative instances we had during our stay. The first would be a fire alarm that woke up the building for what seemed to be no reason at 6am (after previously going off earlier in the night). The second would be that sometimes the common spaces are directly in front of the room entrances, which can lead to a bit of noise. Overall - I would certainly recommend this hostel to other travelers looking for a place to crash in Stockholm.

This is probably by far the best hostel I have ever been to (I've been to 16 hostels in Europe, one in Canada, one in Singapore, and around ten in Taiwan). The beds are really comfortable, and the pillows are actually solid and not of low quality. The comforter is thick enough and really comfortable too. The only downside is you have to pay for sheets and towels if you didn't bring your own. The hostel is pretty big, and it's a bit confusing at first because of how it's structured. But at check-in, we were given a map so it wasn't too bad. There are codes on the room doors, the big main door that gives access to the hostel living area, and luggage rooms. These codes were all given to us at check-in. There are also small slips of paper to hang on our beds to let the cleaning people know who is checking out when. Super good system! Inside the room, there are beds of course, lockers that don't have locks so bring your own, and a nice couch area (we stayed in a twelve person room; I don't know whether the couch is only in bigger rooms). There's plenty of private bathrooms and showers, and it's interesting that the hostel observes the Swedish tradition of taking off shoes inside the home. This is definitely the first hostel I've stayed at that does so. The showers are pretty nice and clean, as are the bathrooms. There are also events every week organized by the hostel, and you pay to attend, although I think there's a movie night every week that's free. There really isn't anything to complain about at this hostel; I would highly suggest it. The location is great too; it's super close to the central station, and it's most definitely in the city center. Definitely my favorite hostel up to date!

Can I go back like... NOW ? 1. It's pretty. Scandinavian style. The reception has bikes hanging on the roof. 2. It's so so so practical: reception is open from 8 to midnight, but then you can come and check-in on your own anytime, as long as you ask for the entrance code before. So yes, there's an entrance code: it's pretty safe. Even the guest staying there are clean people (at least from what i saw during my staying). 3. It's really clean and comfortable: we had a 8 beds room. People were really nice, everyone had his locker so nothing was staying in our way. Beds are comfortable, blankets are warm enough. We have two floors: one upstairs with a mini living room where you can hang out with your band or whatever, there's a vintage tv! Downstairs you have a huuuuuuuge kitchen, it's clean, you have fridges by room, so your stuff is pretty safe. You have every tool to make your food properly. 4. It's fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuun. Upstairs, between the kitchen and the rooms, we have a huge living room, where there's tv, apple computers (it's free wifi btw), and all around the room we have couches. Everyone hangs in there, meets new people, drinks and gets drunk and then become best friends and go party together. Every night. Looks like you are on school vacations. 5. It's close to almost everything! It's on vasagatan: 10 minutes from T Centralen, the central station. On this road you can go up to the borough of Odenplan with a few restaurants, or go down the road with 7 eleven, Max, Burger King, a few pubs and clubs, after T Centralen you'll get to walk a bit and you're in gamla stan within 25min. walking. You're near the shopping area aswell. To end up with, it has been four fabulous days i've stayed there. I loved it. I've meet wonderful people. People from the hostel were really nice and helped us to get the best of everything, they recommended us some beautiful places. It was amazing. Big plus: they have bikes to rent, they can give you free ice skates for 2 hours, they can give you extra blankets, they have private showers and hair dryers, + free sauna!

For about 2 weeks, this was my little home. I have to say, as hostels go, this was truly one of the best I've stayed in. The price for such a privilege is definitely not the cheapest in town, but knowing the place will be decently clean and not as depressing as your run of the mill hostel - it was worth the price tag for me. The location of the City Backpackers is pretty good, it's about a 1 km, take or leave a few m's, walk from the central bus station. It's situated toward the northern end of one of the main shopping districts to S-holm, which makes is convenient but the party will usually not be right outside your window. Pretty good Mexican taco place (it's on basement level if you can't find it ) and coffee place down Upplands a couple blocks. It's not a hostel for the partyers, but there is a social atmosphere if you want to meet some new peeps. The accommodations are no frills but there are nice little touches that help to make it a bit more homey. As in most of Scandinavia, you need to bring your own sheets and towels or you'll need to rent them from the front desk. They have anywhere from singles up to 8 bed dorms, and everything in between. All the rooms have lockers (you can buy a lock from the front desk) and I never had a problem with cleanliness in the rooms. The bathroom sitch is pretty good here - there are the usual communal situations but there is a new section of the hostel with PRIVATE bathrooms so you can SSS (urban dictionary that one if you don't know) in peace. It makes the hostel experience a bit more palatable when you know you can at least have a moment of privacy when you want it the most. There a little touches that make this place more interesting than most. The rooms are all named for islands on the Stockholm archipelago and they offer free pasta, BYOS (bring your own sauce.) There is a little cafe that the hostel operates right next door, you can choose to order breakfast there, which includes a cheese or ham sandwich, coffee/tea, and OJ. I didn't find it worth the money once I found out what it was, cheaper to have something a bit better from the grocery store. But if you're pressed for time or too tired, they do have breakfast and snacks at the cafe and at the front desk. The one thing I will say is that while the service was pretty good, they only have one person manning the desk at all times, which isn't enough. I queued for at least 20 minutes on more than one occasion. At least there was some excellent electropop music playing lobby to make it more bearable. This is Stockholm after all.

Maybe 'cause it was the first hostel of my life, but I think it AMAZING... It's built such as an huge home, in which I've to go to shower walking through the kitchen for example, or to remove my shoes to get in... These are such few examples of House-Situation that makes it comfortable. Rooms are clean, big and you can put your luggage in a safety cabinet! There is also Wi-Fi area everywhere, internal garden and a 24hour reception. It's also included first morning's breakfast. The position is almost good and you can go to Vasa or Gamla Stan in fifteen minutes! I love it, five star SURELY ;)

While not the best hostel I've ever stayed at, I really have no complaints. The location is fairly central. I found it very easy to get around the city on foot from the hostel. There's a supermarket close by, so you can buy yourself some sauce for the free pasta (though you can also buy some at the hostel). Cooking said pasta can sometimes be a little difficult as the kitchen is sometimes busy and dirty. On the whole though if you avoid the peak times it's a great way to save yourself some money on food (hugely important, food is a tad bit expensive otherwise). That being said, the kitchen and common areas can be quite lively, which lead to some good times with fellow dorm-mates and other guests. The dorms were nicely arranged, giving some of the beds a good amount of privacy. The outlets were fairly accessible and there are lamps at each bed. The lockers were decently sized and not too noisy. The internet didn't work in the dorm room (at least not the one on the ground floor). It seems like such a simple luxury, but the wash closets are what really did it for me. They're quite private, which gives you some nice alone time. The water is hot, there's ample room for you to put your stuff without getting it wet, and there are plugins for hair dryers, should you feel the need to be doing something like that while travelling. During the chilly days of fall in Stockholm, a nice, hot, fuss free shower is so very welcome.

I was staying in a single private room for 3 nights. On the third day I was required to pack up and move to another single private room for some reason. This was kind of a hassle since they were both single rooms. Some of the people staying here at the time were not very respectful of the space. Trash and dishes were left around the common areas and kitchen. Two of the nights people were talking in the common areas until 2:30 AM even though `quiet hours` begin at 11PM. Hah. I recommend the tour given by a local Swedish person (think it runs on Tues-Thurs). It was a good insight into some history and different locations with a lot of good content included for the couple of hours.

this hostel is ok pretty clean and they have large lockers to store your stuff location is alright too; a little bit of a hike from central station. not as close as some of the other hostels the free pasta is ok; but its free...what do u expect friendly people at the front desk the set up is weird though; rooms are through another door, then you go outside and into another building

Friendly, helpful front desk. Meticulous cleaning staff. Quirky hostel. Basement level a warren, takes time to get used to. Some private showers hidden. Great location. Minutes from main shopping street (Drotninggatan) which leads to Gamla Stan (Old Town).

One of my favorite hostels in the world! I stayed here for two nights in November 2015 at the recommendation of a friend and cannot recommend it more highly. It's extremely clean and is a great environment for meeting fellow travelers. There's also free dry pasta in the kitchen for guests so if you want to eat pasta every day you could potentially spend $0 on food in Stockholm! Perfect for an expensive city. Great location: close to the city terminal, a block away from Drottninggatan and close to Lidl or Hemköp (both grocery stores but Lidl is less expensive) Staff: friendly and excellent Security: excellent Room: very clean! the cleaning service comes in at 11am. I know this cause I was trying to sleep through my hangover! lol Kitchen/dining area: great place to socialize with other travelers and pasta is FREE! You just have to buy your own sauce, meat, veggies, etc. to complete your pasta meal. Activities: City Backpackers has a schedule put up (located behind the front desk) I thought there were not enough showers but there was never a wait so I can't complain there.

Wonderful staff! Took fantastic care of someone who had their passport and luggage lost on the very first day of their very first international trip. Having a bed in a great location in an amazing city took away almost all the stress of the situation. Thank you very much!!!
