Please don’t stay here. I had booked 3 nights and left within 3 hours. Didn’t get a refund on my nights. Rooms were disgusting with stains on the walls. Bathrooms were unisex and as i was trying to have a shower (as a girl) a man was shaving his head right next to me. The showers are extremely small and disgusting with hair all over the floor. The fan in the room has an extremely loud beeping sound because it was broken so didn’t even work. We only booked due to the pool but because it’s so small only a few people can use it and it was a group of lads that hogged it the whole time. Didn’t use the kitchen but did not look nice. As i checked out staff decided to laugh and they’ve “never seen someone leave so quick back to gold coast” even thought the only reason why i was leaving was because of their hostel. You have to be a certain type of person to stay there and that just isn’t me.

We stayed here last minute as it was the only hostel available but after seeing the reviews we thought it would be okay. When we arrived the staff were really helpful and accommodating and were the best part of the stay. We stayed in a 16 bed mixed dorm and were really disappointed. The room itself was very basic which is to be expected of a hostel but you can stay in much nicer accommodation in Brisbane for the same price. The beds were all really close together and you can see everyone whilst they are sleeping, there was no bin in our room and the bedsheets/blankets were well worn and didn’t look particularly clean, when stripping the bed for checkout there was dried blood on the mattress protector. The air conditioning was also really bad and the room was really hot all night. We felt very on edge the whole time we were in the hostel but this was mainly due to the behaviour of other guests. I understand other guest behaviour cannot be controlled by the staff but it would potentially be helpful to have staff more accessible during the night as there was a guy in our room talking at full volume on the phone at 1am. The bathrooms were fairly clean and tidy although one cubicle had was seemed to be dried blood splashed done one of the walls which was a bit disconcerting. We didn’t use the kitchen as it was absolutely packed at peak times. The pool and communal areas all looked clean and well maintained. There are lots of steps to get to everything which wasn’t too much of a problem but they were quite wet most of the time. On the morning of checkout I went to put stuff in one of the bins and it was splattered with what looked like fresh blood and it was really unsettling. I really wanted to like this place as the staff were so helpful but I wouldn’t stay here again :/

Extremely dissatisfied with this hostel. My partner and I got extremely sick from the mouldy filter of the air con. We talked to a few people who have felt the same way after spending a few days there. Pillows were so flat and used, it was like lying down on nothing. Blankets and sheets as well need some love, lots of stains and smells. No water filter, doesn’t get cold at all and the water tastes like dirt and mould, which we actually found many black specks of who knows what in our water bottles after using the tap. That’s how they get you to pay 4$ per bottle of water they sell. Couldn’t even have unopened liquor in your room. Their “secure” luggage room door was left open, unlocked all day. For the kitchen, a few stoves didn’t work, the fridge made your food warmer than it would have been in an airconed room. Many smokers in the non smoking area, staff passed by but maybe because they were friends it was disregarded. Staff are too busy most of the time talking and mingling with friends rather than do there job properly. Also 10$ to do laundry. Would not stay here again, especially after being sick.

I have absolutely loved my stay in this hostel, everyone is so fun to talk to including the staff. They come in to check the rooms everyday which is so nice, my only thing would be that you can hear everything from the outside at night. Love that we have a pool and other fun rooms. The location is good close to the main part of the city in a walkable distance as well as a train station, on the other direction is a mall and they have a coles which is good because the hostel has a kitchen as well. I even got to experience bracelet making with staff member Sam, it was very fun and got to meet new people. Overall amazing experience and if given the chance would stay again!!

Sam’s craft night was great. He let me use all the stickers. He put in some good hustle though I ended up tying a lot of bracelets on people. City backpackers is a pretty good hostel. It’s very social, as in there is not once place to be that’s not in the presence of other people (probably by design) . I did not love them blasting despacito at 8:45 am in the morning. The pool is super nice and I like that the common area is big.

Me and my partner stayed in a room that absolutely stunk. The facilities aren’t nice, with shower etc not being clean. We couldn’t wait to leave, and both got ill from the stay. Also one member of staff at the front desk was incredibly rude to my partner. Would not recommend or plan to stay again.

This hostel is honestly one of the best I have ever visited. Although it’s fairly basic and could do with some renovations/general upgrades of bathrooms and bedrooms it was super clean the cleaners do a great job! The communal spaces are incredible with a great view and pool. What really makes this place is the staff, the girl from reception who runs the events in the evening really is a credit to this hostel, she went above and beyond to make us feel super welcome and comfortable she is full of life and very refreshing to be around- the events in the evening are always ran so smoothly and everyone enjoys them it’s a great way to meet new people as a solo traveller or in a group. The two French girls on reception are also very helpful and kind. There is a cafe which is convenient and reasonably priced. Overall we had a brilliant stay and would 100% return when we are back in Brisbane.

Just stayed in this hostel (thankfully for one night). The whole place looked very run down and old and to make matters worse the lift was out of order and we had to climb multiple sets of stairs with our heavy bags as an above knee amputee this was not acceptable and I had great difficulty trying to get to our room. The room we stayed in was also very run down, stains on the sheets and the bunk beds sounded like they were going to collapse at any moment. I tried to go to the toilet before we checked out but they were all being cleaned they have chosen the worst time to clean them and could clean them at non peak times such as midday. We also figured out that a luxury apartment in a very close location to the hostel was cheaper than booking a private room in that hostel There was quite an unsettling vibe going on the time we were there I didn’t feel as safe compared to other hostels we stayed in along the east coast The kitchen looked like it was part of a prison and all of the cooking accessories looked very dirty and old. There are 3 more hostels along the same road as this hostel so I would suggest staying in one of those instead

Had a great night in City Backpackers HQ pub The Fatt Wombat last Saturday. Staff were friendly and beer was cheap. Good combination! #Happydays
