Where to Stay in Oaxaca on Your Trip (Updated 2025)

"Located east of Centro in Jalatlaco, this is one of the most modern, hip hotels in town with plush rooms featuring trendy art, lots of light, and firm beds. The staff are really helpful and there’s a gym, bar, and outdoor pool. It’s very photogenic with pink décor and inspirational signs, so you’ll often see people popping in just to take photos." - Matthew Kepnes

The 5 Best Hotels in Oaxaca (Updated 2025)

"Located east of Centro in the Jalatlaco area, this is one of the most modern, hip hotels in town — super photogenic with a bright pink exterior and décor (and inspirational signs) that draws people in just to take photos. A four‑star property with an outdoor pool, fitness center, bar, and free parking, the chic, minimalist rooms feature pink walls, trendy art, lots of light, firm beds, flatscreen TVs, desks, AC, and free Wi‑Fi; they feel sleek, spacious, and airy. Breakfast isn’t included but is filling and highlights local specialties, and I like that check‑out isn’t until 1pm." - Matthew Kepnes

This is hotel is situated in Barrio de Jalatlaco, a really nice area, with restaurants and vibrant street art.||A couple things that we noticed about the facilities: none of our two rooms had ventilation in the bathroom, because of the tile they used on the floors it can be very noisy when guests are checking out early and are strolling their luggage. Also, the parking lot is tight, it can be tricky to get in if other cars are parked on the street and very challenging to go out if you had to go beyond the first floor.||Service is good and breakfast buffet was ok. We got coupons for two people per night, and were not allowed to use 6 at a time one day for our whole family 🥲

The personnel in this property has zero accountability, the hotel's laundry service provider ruined my suit which was needed for a wedding I was attending during the first week of April. The procedure was super sketchy to say the least, the front desk agent received the money from me in cash and supposedly led the process of coordinating the pick up. After the "service provider" destroyed my suit I was unable to have anything to wear for the wedding and the next thing I tried to do was raising a claim, so that's what led to to contact the hotel where a front desk agent "acknowledged" the issue originally, promised to seek for a tailor so I could have a solution, and later proceeded to "block" me in WhatsApp. During the whole process the hotel's general manager has systemically refused to cooperate in reaching a resolution. Every time I call I get "ping pong'ed'' me. IT has been over 2 weeks and still no resolution has been reached.

If you arrive before check in time they charge a fee. Location is in a nice neighborhood but a bit far from the city center. The room was nice but the AC did not blow any cold air. Spent time on YouTube trying to figure out if I was doing something wrong. The front desk staff was not very friendly. Overall, wasn’t a bad experience maybe the staff agent was new. The Buffet they have in the morning was decent but there are better locations outside of the hotel. The beds are comfortable.

Nice centric hotel, located in Jalatlaco area, and within 15 minutes walk from Oaxaca Downtown. Rooms are small, but clean. The only issue was that our room had a small window and no natural ventilation. Breakfast is average, but with a bad price/value relation. You can get a much better option in any near cafe. Staff is super friendly and willing to help. Tour service are extremely recommended.

We were staying at a 2* hotel closer to the Zocalo. It was horrible so we left 2 nights early, I booked this on points at the last minute. With that as our baseline this place is a paradise. I have ambassador elite status-the free breakfast is amazing. It’s not entirely worth 320 pesos but it’s not a total ripoff either. Rooms are clean, small windows but more than enough light. Beds are on the firm side but really comfortable. Lots of plugs/standard Marriott hotel stuff. Staff are friendly! Pool is tiny but it’s a really nice vibe. I appreciate that they have beach towels out there waiting for you. Decent little biz centre for a small tourist hotel. We would have booked in this area from the start but everywhere online said to stay in the Zocolo - honestly this area is a bit more touristy but we enjoyed it more. You can always walk down to the more “authentic” areas if you want to! Really like the aesthetic of this hotel. It’s beautiful. Oh and it has free parking with a nice secure underground lot.

City Centro in Jalatlaco has a bright pink façade that’s really picturesque, the staff is super friendly, and you’re just steps away from local cafés and cool spots.

There are lots of low reviews so I came with low expectations and was pleasantly surprised. It is an excellent hotel for day of the dead. It is close to the Centro if you want to head down there, but there is plenty going on right outside the door. Stayed with a friend. We both remarked on how great the shower was, lots of hot water! Big nice bath towels. The room has plenty of space. We had no noise issues. The staff that serves food and drinks were super helpful. The terrace rocks during day of the dead. Front desk, meh. No coffee maker or tea kettle (brought my own tea kettle). Low room amenities. But totally recommend for day of the dead!

I had the pleasure of having a few drinks here before I went out for the evening. I met a lovely and polite bartender called, Alex, who attended to me. The drinks were amazing, and had the option of being on terrace (terraza ) or in bar. Overall fantastic experience. If not staying at property, go in for a drink. You won’t regret it.
