Airbnb Adds Experiences and Services. Is That a Good Thing? - AFAR

"This luxury four-bedroom home in a gated community sits one block from the beach and offers resort-like touches—a private pool, basic groceries and essentials provided on arrival, premium linens, cleaning services every other day, and a responsive dedicated concierge who communicates by text and is available in person—illustrating the platform's emphasis on consistent safety, design, quality, amenities, and service that aim to replicate hotel standards in a home rental." - Devorah Lev-Tov

We asked for a quiet room and still we were woken up at 5am with the breakfast staff. Really spoilt our stay.||Never used the pool. Gym had just had a new floor so smelt of glue and couldn't be used. Room and bathroom OK.||Breakfast was OK.||But a shockingly bad sleep spoiled our stay.

Good stay if you plan to spend time in Playa Del Carmen. 5th Avenue is a 10 min walk from the hotel. About 15 mins walk in the same direction to the ferries to Cozumel. The hotel is on the highway and if you have day trips planned to Chichén Itza or any of the Xcaret you mostly will be picked up from the door step of the hotel. Hotel itself is clean and safe. The buffet has the exact same spread everyday so don’t expect too much from it. If the photos of City Express Suites and this one confuse you, that’s because they are actually the same building. One side is painted pink and has slightly better rooms so they call it the City Express Suites. The pool for both is the same and if you stay at Suites you can have breakfast in a ceramic plate while City Express has hard paper plates, lol.

This place is TERRIBLE. I appreciate that the staff were friendly and the location of the hotel is great but the rooms are so unsanitary. We stayed here 4 nights and 5 days. The restrooms were full of mold, the furniture was extremely worn down, and even the curtains and the lamps looked disgusting. I guess you get what you pay for but we were at least expecting a clean/mold-less experience. Please invest some money in remodeling the rooms, our experience was not great at all and we were doing everything we could to not spend any time at the hotel! We regret not staying at an all-inclusive hotel and will never stay here again. Do not stay here.

Stayed for 3 nights a week ago. For the good, staff was friendly, short walk to town (about a 20 min walk), room & common areas were clean, the room is a good size and there's complimentary breakfast from 7am to 11am. They were also very helpful in booking a taxi for me to get to Puerto Morelos. I didn't have a chance to use the pool as I was always walking to the beach.||On the downside, they're doing upgrades to the hotel so it can get a bit loud at times depending on the time of day. There wasn't any early check-in or late checkout available.

We had a Difficult experience being at this hotel as the front desk didn’t speak any word of English. I find it weird and disappointing to be at such a brand hotel that employs staff that don’t speak English especially with customer facing positions. We wasted our morning on the first day trying to take information about where to go to the beach and Parking information. The receptionist was using the phone for translation. Also the attitude of receptionist was so indifferent and rude. Also on the day of our arrival, which was late and we have a 20 months old baby with us, they told us that they have no more rooms left and transferred us to the suites building! They claimed it was an upgrade, but I am not too sure about that. Be careful with your belongings as our daughter’s shoe and an iPhone charger disappeared from our room. We engaged with the management to find them but no luck.

I have to start by saying that I was hesitant about booking into this hotel. But, go for it. Is super clean, personnel very polite, you have a kitchenette with a dishwasher. Our room was always impeccable and freshly cleaned when we came back every evening. It is not a resort but it is cleaner than one... it has a breakfast room, pool, laundry and computers in the lobby for guests. As I said, if you are expecting resort amenities you won't find them here, since we were always out, we didn't care about it. Prices are very reasonable. Last minute booking went smooth, no problems at all.

I requested a late Check-In and was sent a private message from the hotel stating that that would be fine. They neglected to inform me AT THAT TIME that their credit card machines had been down for 4 days even before my arrival, so once I arrived, I was told that I had to pay for my vacation stay in cash! :-O The problem was I don't carry cash like that, and if I wanted to, I would've been prepared with a heads-up. The manager stated that I could find another hotel, then ~ RUDE! I let him know that I would pay once I left back out (it was close to midnight) and he wanted to hold my passport or Driver's License as collateral ~ NOT! I gave him a work I.D. instead. I went online and paid through Expedia for my entire stay, as I wasn't comfortable going to obtain cash like that to pay for a 5-night stay. The machines never were working during my stay, so it seems like they were out for at least 9 days. BAD BUSINESS not giving customers a heads-up!!!! The room is almost exactly as pictured minus the rug; It was very clean, but upon asking for clean towels, we rarely got them when needed, and the cups in the cupboard were dirty with stains on them. The shower was hit or miss with hot water and drained very slowly. The breakfast was great ~ hot, plentiful, and good! The location was about an 8 min taxi ride from 5th Avenue, but hard to find for many taxi cab drivers. Nothing was nearby and taxis had to be ordered from the hotel staff. Overall rating ~ 3/5

The staff are just the right amount of friendly and professional. I arrived before check in time and they happily gave me the room early. Uber eats delivers to the hotel which is what I used for my meals. It is nothing fancy but it is a clean, quiet, safe place to spend a night. The one in Cancun is nice too..great option before and after a flight because they have a free shuttle to and from the airport at the Cancun location.
