Where to Stay in New Orleans When You Visit (Updated 2025)

"In the heart of the French Quarter, I found City House Hostel to be a very centrally located, budget-friendly option: the dorm bunk beds lack privacy shades but the mattresses are quite comfortable, and there’s a guest kitchen plus a lively common room with foosball." - Matthew Kepnes

This was a great choice to visit the French quarter. It's just outside of the busy area , like literally a 1 minute walk to all the noise but nice and quite room . The service was amazing and the room was awesome

The hostel overall is good. The kitchen is good for cooking and you'll see a lot of people there. They do nightly events and game hours, there's a quiet area in the back and a tv in the lounge area. Showers and toilets are plentiful. The staff are great! Unfortunately they have a 0 tolerance baggage policy and myself and other guests had our belongings removed and moved into the elevator room downstairs where there's no one watching, even though we were still staying as guests. It would also be nice if there was a WhatsApp group that you could join and communicate with other guests, get announcements, etc. Shout-out to Mason and Strat, you guys are wonderful! Overall, it's a cheap place to stay and close to things. Breakfast is no longer provided, but it was frozen pancakes and waffles with some fruit anyway.

On Saturday afternoon, I was assigned a room and bunk. Sunday night, I checked it to a room with a broken A/C. My bunk mate informed me the following morning that she had complained to management and they did nothing. When I brought this to the attention of management in the morning, they wanted me to demonstrate that it was, in fact, broken. 30 min later, they replaced it with a new on that they presumably had in house the night before. When I asked management to explain why I was placed in a room that had a know issue with the A/C, they responded by telling me that the complaint by my bunk mate was “hearsay.” The general manager proceeded to slam the door in my face before opening it to give me someone else’s receipt. She was incredibly rude and not helpful in the slightest. Was told to throw my plastic bottles in the trash. No recycling measures in place. Management told me that would have to pay to recycle plastic. Absurd. Burdensome rules for the occupants and no accountability for the staff. Also, had to pay a $.60 fee for a soda for using a credit card because it has too much cash in the machine. Management, just shrugged their shoulders.

Stayed here during a weekend with a lot of other people, so I wasn’t expecting much, but the room & especially the bathroom was not very clean. It smelled very distinctly like urine in our room and the bathrooms were not taken care of enough for the amount of people staying in the hostel. By the end of the trip, it was hard to even breath without gagging because of the smells. The staff was friendly, but they hyped up an event that they were putting on and convinced everyone to come, and come to find out, when we went to the event to support, everything literally cost money. It was very discouraging. Not to mention, we overhead some of the staff members talking about how they could make more money off the residents. I’ve stayed in hostel before, and this was just not great. It was fine for what we needed, but I think next time I’ll just spend a little bit more money to be comfortable.

I booked a room with breakfast included for two people, but upon arrival, I was told that breakfast was no longer offered. After discussing with them, they promised a $20 refund, but it has been over three weeks, and I am still waiting for my money. On the other hand, they charged me $100 without any prior notice for a cleaning fee. They never informed me that this could happen. When I asked for explanations or demanded my rightful refund, they kept delaying and making excuses. A dishonest and incompetent customer service team that has no problem charging for non-existent services but refuses to fulfill their commitments. If you’re looking for a trustworthy place, stay far away from this hostel.

Google
My first hostel experience and it was wonderful. I will be bringing my son back as a Christmas present cause I felt so comfortable and he wants to experience the the French quarter. Everything is super walkable which helps with making it a cheap and easy trip! Super clean too. Cleaning lady was a sweetie. I lost my luggage lock and she watched my bag while I ran to the store. Even though after meeting everyone I realized I had nothing to worry about. Everyone was respectful and cool. Especially all the staff.

I stayed at this hostel Halloween weekend. I highly recommend it! There's a code to get in so you can go in and out at all hours. Great location and amazing staff! I parked in another garage because I was more comfortable with a garage with an attendant, but the staff informed me that they recently installed lots of cameras in the garage attached to their building and haven't had almost any break ins since. I can't vouch for that garage, but do your research ahead of time, since you can sometimes get a better parking rate if you book in advance.

Google
Beware when booking this hostel! I paid extra for the “flexible booking” option, meaning I’d have up to 3 days before checkin to cancel and receive a refund. Plans changed and I tried to cancel the reservation and they wouldn’t let me cancel as it was a “Special Event” weekend. Every weekend in New Orleans is a special event weekend and they wouldn’t return my money even though I spent more for the flexible booking option. Management was impossible to get in touch with and became non responsive. I eventually had to dispute it with my credit card. Overall a very bad experience and I highly suggest never booking with their flexible booking option as it doesn’t actually exist.

Yelp
In a sketchy location smells terrible and the bathrooms are absolutely repulsive. Not enough ventilation. They say that they provide breakfast, but do not count on it. One of the male staff members was very unprofessional and rude. Nearly refused to refund me my money after they canceled on me because they misunderstood their own policies. I do believe I was profiled. I'd recommend the Hi New Orleans hostel it's right across canal st. Nicer, cleaner, and professional staff members.

Em R.

Yelp
I booked with this place to stay at for one night after getting off a cruise. They told me I couldnt check in til 3, but I had a huge suitcase so I asked if I could store it and they said no. You cant just walk around NoLa with a huge suitcase, especially in the rain. So I had to cancel and book with HI New Orleans Hostel (which was reasonable and let me store my bag before check-in). These creeps took my money even though I canceled. AVOID at all costs!!

Yelp
This hostel is deceptive from the front. But I stayed in a 10 bed mixed dorm and felt quite safe. My only problem is that there weren't any windows in my room.

Zoe S.

Yelp
City House Hostel New Orleans is the best kept secret! It is located right in the French Quarters. I stayed over the Super Bowl weekend. The roads were blocked off for the Game but I was within walking distance to Bourbon Street, the Convention Center and Caesars Casino. I felt really lucky and thankful that a bed became available there. City House is clean and very well organized. The staff (Strat, Sanara and Shelby) are so welcoming and helpful. The guests that weekend were respectful and very friendly. I was traveling by myself and felt safe and really enjoyed my stay.

Heather F.

Yelp
Having stayed in a number of hostels, both domestically and internationally, I am well aware that they can very greatly and style, amenities and comfort. The city house hostel was both dirty and lacking amenities. The only lockers that were offered were outside of the bedrooms and they were a 12" x 12" locker. in the actual bedrooms, there were simply plastic boxes and cubbies. There was a thin sheet duvet on the bed. Just a cover, no actual duvet filling inside. No towel was provided. The bathrooms were not well kept, and very dirty as seen in the pictures. One of my bunk mates appeared to have been living out of the hostel for sometime. Definitely would not recommend this hostel.

Yelp
The nonsense of them charging me an additional night for not being off the property by checkout is what is driving this review score. I was out of my dorm by 11:30 (maybe 11:45), I took my bags into a common area & started repacking. I was having a pleasant conversation with another guest & was heading out the front door about 12:30. As I moved a few things from one bag to another I heard them discussing charging me for another night! I told them that if they did I would dispute the charge with my bank & leave negative reviews, so here I am. They claimed that I had been told at check-in I was required to be off the property by checkout or they would charge me for another night. This was never said to me & I was out of the room early enough to where any cleaning for another guest to come in wasn't going to be an issue. This is fraud, this is a ripoff, & now the criticism of the space itself. Somebody got sick in one of the bathrooms & the vomit was still splattered on the wall two days later! I can get over one of the toilets being broken/OOC, I can deal with the shower faucet handle falling off while I'm showering, but I guess you get what you pay for. Or in my case, you get charged for accommodations & services not rendered. But hey, at least they have lockers now, so that critique in other reviews is no longer valid.

Nelson M.

Yelp
So I stayed here a few months ago (yes I'm lazy and forgot to write a review sooner) and had a wonderful time. The room was just what I needed. The people who were working there were lovely they wanted to make my visit the best it could be. This place is close to the French Quarter and there are events planned for every evening so if you're traveling alone you can go out in the evening safely.

Yelp
It has all a traveler needs. Beautiful place, welcoming staff.

Bobby C.

Yelp
A clean and well managed hostel, fresh clean sheets as well as generously sized bathrooms and plenty of opportunities to meet new people and make new connections for an unbeatable price.
google avatar

Kiran B.

Yelp
I definitely overpaid for this hostel. Since it was during spring break and on a Saturday night, I ended up paying $75 for a bunk in a 10 person room. The pillow was flat and I couldn't sleep all night because the sheets made me itchy :( I'm only disappointed about the price I paid because the rest of my experience was nice. The staff is super fun (down to party), they host events every day to help you make friends and get to know the city! Try and buy a $3 padlock to lock your belongings if you're carrying anything expensive because there's little to no privacy inside the hostel
google avatar

April S.

Yelp
My guy friend and I really enjoyed the stay. This hostel feels homey. It feels humble, clean, and simple. Who ever is doing the cleaning does a vey good job. I like the tour that was given me of the place. I like the living room area, looks like a small mini-museum. Love the sweet kitty cat that kept walking pass my leg. The cat was very welcoming of us. The staff was super awesome and nice. The whole experience there was calm.

Yelp
The city house hostel is badly broken and doesn't seem to be that management wants to fix the things that are broken. There is no real front desk. The heating system is broken several years ago and is yet to be repaired. There is a stove top in the kitchen area in the lobby that has been broken for a long time it appears to be severely damaged. And cleaning of the library area did not begin until 10:00 a.m. the PIN codes to the room or disabled at 11:00 immediately . Access is not allowed before 3:pm because they do not maintain a real front desk. They exclusively use travel service to maintain records. and it is often hard to find a staff member in that there is no front desk to resolve problems. Many of the outlets were not working there was very little USB connectors. There was no real event system several of the rooms did not have heat. Management did make several errors. And they made the assumption that could They could upgrade my stay to a more expensive place. There was no compensation for the errors they made and they were booking and I was charged. For the upgrade even though it was management staff in their failure to properly maintain bookings. Again I will say this place is severely broken and I do not see where anything was being done to repair it. Avoid this hostel at all costs. There's very little being done to help guests to find their way around town. If you are new to New Orleans you can find a better place to stay.

Yelp
The location cannot be beat! I actually only used the Hostel to supplement a night of arriving prior to my group but had I been aware of the perfect location I probably would have stayed there during my previous visit! The staff is friendly, the desk is 24 hours, the bathrooms are large and plentiful which is always a big win. The rooms don't all have windows (if any of them do) so just make sure to set your alarm or that hangover could make you stay in bed all day (by accident!). Definitely recommend this Hostel as a very decent option to bunk while in NOLA. Don't forget your headphones!!! (For the snorers in the room)

Bonnie B.

Yelp
No air conditioning or forms of ventilation, not in the rooms, the bathrooms, the hallways blow hot air and you're greeted as soon as you leave the elevator by a cloud of hot thick air. The refrigerator is disgusting, and the bathrooms are always dirty and clogged with hair and have a permanent smell in half of the rest rooms. The lights in the bathroom don't work half the time also.

Charles J.

Yelp
This is truly a Godsend. I've stayed at City House New Orleans twice and the people there are truly wonderful. Everyone I've met were super helpful and very welcoming. I had the opportunity to speak with Jamal, a City House employee and we had a pretty dope conversation about our lives and journeys. Great vibes from a really good hearted young man. I absolutely recommend City House Hostel to anyone who's seeking a place to stay. Comfortable living space, great facility, clean, and respectful people all around. There's no reason not to try this place. Highly recommend.

Joey M.

Yelp
Had the best time in New Orleans, thanks to Victoria and Jamal. These 2 staff members showed us a great time. Be sure to ask for them if you want to have the best time in the Big Easy.

Vanessa V.

Yelp
Location and staff cannot be beat!!! This was my first time staying at a hostel and I loved it. You're walking distance from bourbon street, bathrooms are large and the staff is amazing! We enjoyed super fun and entertaining happy hour with Aaron - one of the employees, and other people that were staying there, which was a nice way to meet people that stay there too. I'm definitely staying here when I return to NOLA.

Yelp
I was staying in this hostel for the labor day weekend with two other friends. Pros : 1. 4minute walk to Bourbon Street which is where everything is. 2. Many good restaurants around 3. Reasonable with prices 4. Great common area- It's extremely big and has very cool sitting with TV, foosball, Ping pong tables and amazing decor 5. Happy hour every night so that was nice to meet new people and socialize. Cons : 1. Could really work on Cleanliness in bathrooms. 2. Most rooms don't have a window but they have great common are so not big of a deal.

Yelp
BEWARE OF FRAUDULENTLY HAVING RESERVATIONS CANCELLED! On 25/09/23 I booked 10 nights at this hostel for Mardi Gras week in Feb '24. My one bed in a 10-bed mixed dorm incl taxes came to $480 for all 10 nights ... and I booked my international flight around this reservation. Two months later (on 26/11/23) I received an email from City House saying that my booking had been cancelled due to some damage to the room requiring repairs. I panicked because I absolutely cannot afford to stay in hotels and my flight is not refundable. But then I thought ... wait - it's only November. Why would you not be able to have repairs done by February? So, I rang the manager. She claimed that they couldn't get the repairs done because of the upcoming Christmas holidays ... but TBH it sounded like a run-around to me. Basically - they knew they could get more $$$ for the bed now. I noticed on the hostel website that there were still beds available in a 10-bed dorm exactly like the one I had booked, so I requested that the manager give me one of those beds instead. She said she can't do that but that I was welcome to book it myself online. However, those beds are now $200 a night (YES, in a 10-bed dorm!!!) ... MORE THAN 4 TIMES WHAT I HAD BOOKED THE BED FOR TWO MONTHS AGO. When I brought this to the manager's attention and asked to re-book for the original price she told me she could not honour that price. Nope. If I wanted to re-book I would have to pay $200/night 'because that is the price now'. I was so frustrated and upset I was near tears. Meanwhile, the manager's stance was just kind of a 'tough luck but sorry I can't help you' attitude. Even when I explained that the ONLY reason I had booked this trip was because I had found affordable accommodation and now I am stuck trying to scramble to find something else ... I received NO HELP whatsoever. Do I actually believe that the room needs repair? Nope. Because what on earth would take months to repair? And if it were true that repairs were needed then they would (and should) honour my original price in another room. No ... I 100% believe this is a case of cancelling my reservation in order to re-book the bed at a higher price. The fact that a traveller who booked far in advance is now left high and dry is seemingly 'not their problem'. TO CITY HOUSE NOLA - SHAME ON YOU. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY DISGRACEFUL BEHAVIOUR.

Marina H.

Yelp
You know to expect simplicity and shared spaces when you book a hostel. But you can also expect comfort, cleanliness and convenience. Unfortunately, none of these expectations were met. The bed was so old that any movement would make an incredibly loud and annoying sound whenever me or my roommates would move. No hangers, no lockers inside the rooms, no personal bedlight, and no space really to put your luggage somewhere. Showers didn't look so clean to me and restrooms are mixed. Wifi down most of the time and barely working in the rooms. Also, no windows anywhere in the hostel... a bit strange. The stars are for the staff who was incredibly nice and welcoming. Would not recommend a stay there though.

Shannon W.

Yelp
We've stayed in hostels all over Europe and the States. This place is easily one of the best. It's comfortable, clean and in a great location. The staff are really welcoming and helpful. We will DEFINITELY be back. Highly recommended!
google avatar

Courtney S.

Yelp
Super nice staff. The beds could've been cleaner and no light switch near the bed means you have to walk in the dark to turn the light on/off which isn't ideal especially considering the room I was staying in had no windows which means there was no light source.
google avatar

Andrew R.

Yelp
Beware Theives, and unhelpful staff After having multiple items stolen from inside my bag at this hostel, which appeared obviously dug through upon my return, I went to the front desk thinking that someone could help me. After all, I noticed dozens of security cameras mounted on the walls and ceilings along with the corresponding images on a screen behind the desk. The staff member said there was "nothing they could do," when I asked them to review the footage to see who was waking down the hallway carrying the headphones in their large case. If there is nothing they can do in this situation I can't think of anything those cameras could be legitimately used for. I wonder what nefarious uses the hostel has for those many cameras. When I filled the police report, the officer I spoke to seemed unsurprised by what happened at this hostel. If you are looking to grab some small items as a souvenir from your fellow hostel guests without fear of being held responsible this is the place for you.

Yelp
There are places you slept over night and forget.. And there are places that sleep in your mind even after you leave it!! First I think everyone's experience is different, and I can only share my take from my stay. The stuff there is not just a coworkers that tolerate working with each other! They are family! And that's what you feel when you walking in, they make the whole atmosphere so casual and warm, exactly what you need after you just jammed in the city life outside! When I got in, Amanda was there at that time !! That girl has such a warm and friendly smile, that make you want to stay in here presence forever!!! I also should mention that her knowledge of the city was fantastic !! And if you interested in experience some awesome places, definitely ask her opinion on it ! During my stay we went dance and me and Mia learned how to dance Boogie-woogi !! Mia !! You are natural dander and definitely in the right city for it She also knows how to intrigue crowds!!! The ghost story event was an extra vague super clever move !! Richard !!! If you will be fortunate enough to go on the tour with him, you will experience all the depth of this historically overwhelming city, in the most casual manner!!!! The best tour I've attended yet !!!! Alexander !! Makes the place even more hospitable, by just casually approaching and asking how is your stay going, make a great difference!!!! Bayly!! thank you for being so light and positive!! Makes me want to smile along with you Also don't forget the happy hour !! A beer on the house, in the common space, smooth move guys!!! Meeting everyone, letting know each other, and then go bar skipping, or do an event already not with bunch of strangers but with new friends!! My staying experience was superb !!! Thank you all to make it happen!!! love you all !!!

Yelp
City House Hostel is amazing!! I stayed here for 6 nights with a friend during spring break, and we had a great time. The kitchen and bathroom are incredibly clean. The bathrooms are hair-free, free of soap-scum, freshly-painted, and the hand towels are replaced every day. The shower rooms are phenomenal because they include a stool and hooks to hang your belongings. It was easy to feel at home here. Each shower room has a lock, which I found very comforting, as well. My female friend and I felt extremely safe here, and I would definitely recommend this hostel to solo travelers. There is also 24 hour desk staff, in case of an emergency (or late check in). Our room had lockers for guests to stow their personal belongings, but BYO lock. We didn't use the lockers because we didn't have anything valuable with us, and no one took anything from our suitcases while we were out. I loved the kitchen! It was huge and clean and fully-stocked with utensils, bowls, and even pots and pans. Having access to a kitchen was a game-changer. (But don't forget to go out for beignets!) Finally, the best part of City House Hostel is the nightly Happy Hour 9-10pm (free beer!) and the group activity starting immediately after. There is NO drinking in the hostel after happy hour. On our first night here, the staff led us on a walking tour of the city. The other nights we went to a burlesque show, Frenchman Street, and on a pub crawl. The staff is TERRIFIC. They would join us for activities even on their days off because they love exploring the city so much! Their enthusiasm and admiration for this exciting city made our stay here so incredible. Thank you, City House Hostel!

Andrea E.

Yelp
The staff are wonderful and are super informative on recommendations for food and activities. But it is get what you pay for, the bathrooms are pretty dirty

Alexus S.

Yelp
My friends and I stayed in a 4 bed room and we loved it! We had never stayed in a hostel before this and our experience was better than we could have expected. They have nightly happy hour with free beer and then you can go out in groups together to go to bourbon street or other areas around New Orleans. The hostel was clean and the staff was very friendly. It's a great way to meet many different people!

Dante L.

Yelp
The staff was amazing, friendly, and informative. The place was clean, fun, and had everything I needed. I could not recommend a place more. Staying in this hostel made my entire trip and I would 100% only stay here when I return to New Orleans. I met so many interesting cool people from all over the world during my stay I wish didn't have to leave! Thank you so much to the staff again, amazing people.
google avatar

Sandy H.

Yelp
Super fun place to stay with an amazing location. They have activites every night and a free beer for the start of Happy Hour. Great place to meet people. Everything was clean and safe.

Yelp
My name is Vanesa Faure and I worked here as Housrkeeper.the guy who runs this place name craige will not pay me.my frist check was338,00 he paid me161,00.my next check was 68,00 still have not got it.he said that I had to get it from gusto payroll.gusto said they can't give it to me unless he call.I benn to the hotel 4 tines.he is never there won't answer my phone calls.Look like the only way to get my money if I contact my lawyer.

Frank L.

Yelp
This is the worst hostel in New Orleans, the staff is great however the same can't be said about the manager. She does not like people or her job based on her authoritative behavior. Please don't stay at this property, they still owe me $75 from my stay.
google avatar

Jenelle J.

Yelp
At age 51 I'm well aged out of the hostel back packer life, I really expected it to be awful and it actually wasn't. I needed a cheap room short notice to meet family coming into New Orleans and to do a show. This artsy little gem is so close to bourbon st you can throw a rock to it. You can't beat the price. The mattresses are comfortable, the staff is super sweet, and lots of private bathrooms and showers. A huge kitchen to cook in if u choose. Lots of nooks all around to lounge in. My only criticism is the air conditioner runs on frosty, lol. Brrr, also maybe some better pillows. It took a bit to get used to the staff coming into the room often but they keep the place pin neat. I would definitely consider staying here again.

Kevin C.

Yelp
Book somewhere else, don't get robbed. My friends and I booked this hostel through a third-party site, hostels.com which charges a 15% deposit at checkout, and advises that the remaining balance will be due upon arrival at the hostel. I have booked through here many many times and it has never failed me, that is until I decided to book at City House Hostel. This place knowingly disregards that 15% you paid originally and makes you pay in full, saying that the deposit that Hostels.com charges never makes it's way to them, impossible. There's no point even attempting to show them the receipt or email proof because they're arrogant and don't care to hear you out, probably because they've been through this many times already. While staying at the hostel and walking past the front desk we heard other incoming guests were pleading the same case and overheard the manager tell the employee that was handling the guests that there was no way they were getting in without paying the full amount despite having paid the deposit, and that if they didn't like it they could simply find another place to stay (which would cost the guests the cancellation and deposit fee which was already paid) Please do yourself a favor and avoid staying here and supporting this business. Customer support is non-existent here. The entrance level to the hostel even smelled of pee the entire 3 days we were there, and the place does a terrible job of cleaning the beds between guests. I'd give this place less stars if I could.
google avatar

Frank C.

Yelp
An awesome stay. I was hesitant at first because let's be real...not knowing the situation you'll be in bunking with 11 other strangers can be disconcerting. But it was awesome. The staff was above 5 star. The cleanliness and the room itself top notch. Next time I'm here in New Orleans again without a travel partner you better believe I'll be back.

Yelp
We came to drop our bags and the gentleman Michael was very nice and helpful. The manager Richard was terrible and very rude not only to us but his staff. Richard lacked any type of customer service and or management skills. He was also rude to the guests in front of us. On a positive side the hostel was really cool looking and looked very clean. Just hope if you use this location to stay at or drop your bags you don't have to deal with the manager Richard.

Yelp
super cute hostel in new orleans! the employees are sweet and helpful, the other people were pretty cool, and the common area is very nice! my only complaints are that 1, there was no breakfast and 2, there are no windows in the rooms also, there is a garage attached but parking there is not guaranteed. there are other garages within walking distance though
google avatar

Jessica L.

Yelp
I wouldn't have minded the condition of the room for the price but when I brought up the dirty pillow the staff was rude. I inquired about a refund because 4 people left our party to get a hotel because the amenities were bad. Aside from being dirty , 2 toilets didn't flush and I reserved a room for 10 and somehow one of my guests ended up in a separate room and we had to share with a stranger. The staff with the tats on his face at check in was nice and helpful, the guy with the man bun was RUDE. My suggestion is spend the extra money on air bnb or hotel, PS parking was 30 bucks a day at their garage, NOT included or advertised!

Yelp
I've stayed in many hostel across Europe and Canada and this was my first hostel visit in America. Since it was the most recent visit I previously had high hopes for City House New Orleans. Unfortunately, these were way to high. Their beds were the thinnest I had stayed on and the bed it's self felt very cheap and pretty old. Any movement when sleeping or mounting it resulted in a series of obnoxiously loud squeaks. The locker situation in the room was also pretty sad, and they were the smallest I've seen. The bedrooms carpet was also suspicious since it was clearly old and needed to be replaced. The bed number signage was also rough and sensed like an after thought. I was most upset with the bedroom but still further disappointed by the day lockers outside of the room. Every other hostel I have been too has a separate room dedicated to storing bags while you are exploring the city, of if you had gotten in to early to check in. NOT City House New Orleans. They had one wall of a hallway with very limited space. The saving grace for City House New Orleans is the common area and bathroom cleanliness. I was happy to see that all three were well taken care of and were clean. *Let it be noted too that the staff was not unfriendly but also not friendly. Unfortunately, because of the problems stated above I would not stay here again.

Yelp
I stayed in City House w/2 friends for just two nights and it was an awesome experience! Checking in too forever - about 45 minutes (& the reason they're getting 4/5 stars) - but the rest of our stay was awesome! The staff were some of the coolest people I've met, all super fun and very helpful. The common area was gorgeous, clean, and an awesome hang out spot in between NOLA adventures. Guitars, video games, foosball, and free WiFi! The location was super central - it's hidden and secure, making it feel kind of like youre entering a compound when you walk in. Buzzing in, up an elevator, pass the front desk, swiping in with your key. It made me feel very safe! Loved it here and would definitely come back!!!

Yelp
The place itself is very nice, however there are no accommodation for parking, no drinking after 10 pm, cold showers, and the staff are very rude and unhelpful We've stayed at many hostels on this trip and City house is by far the worst. The night life is slow and not engaging unless you live and work at the place. Our first night here I watched a staff member chug a bottle of rum and then stumble over to talk to us he started using profanity, awful slang terms which made us very uncomfortable. If we had the option we would've canceled instantly and walked out.I would HIGHLY recommend NOT staying here and going to India House. You'll find much cheaper, better accommodations and nicer people anywhere else in New Orleans. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY HERE. Upon checking out we found blood stains under the sheets. Ended up leaving a night early and paying to stay else where!

Yelp
This place rocks!!!! The location is absolutely incredible, and the staff are so friendly. We especially loved Kayla!!The facilities were very clean. In order to get in the hostel you have to have a key card or be buzzed in, so safety was never an issue. Every night there is a happy hour and then an event where a staff takes you somewhere in the city! We definitely will stay here again when we come back to the city!

Yelp
This was my first time staying at a hostel, so I don't know how others compare, but I LOVED my stay here. I don't know what I was expecting, but City House definitely exceeded it. I stayed for two weeknights. Every night they do a happy hour from 9-10 where everyone gets a free beer. Afterwards there is some sort of outing as a group. We went to a burlesque show my first night (highly recommend!), and Bourbon St the second. The staff at the hostel are all amazing. They were all super friendly and helpful if you needed tips for food, things to do, etc. They clearly all love what they do, and the city. The two big things I was worried about were safety and cleanliness, but neither were issues. There was never a moment where I felt unsafe or uncomfortable. The rooms all have lockers for your valuables. They aren't huge. I had to take my laptop out of its bag to get it to fit. Other than that, I didn't feel the need to keep anything else locked up. The entire space is spotless. They don't allow food in the bedrooms, which I'm sure helps. I also felt like they were always cleaning the bathrooms, which is nice when you're sharing the space with so many people. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. I'm already planning to visit one of their other locations :)

Yelp
Disappointing place. We stayed here for four nights and it was unpleasant. The room was small, with no air conditioning. Could not sleep at night, because of the heat and no air. Had to open the door to the hallway, to get air and leave it open all night! There was no people even though it was during memorial weekend, which don't match the whole "hostel" feeling, we where looking for. The manager later told us, that the hostel was turning in to a hotel!? Would have been nice to know?? Also, we came very late at night and could not get our keys. We were told the hostel had 24 hour reception, but we could not reach the manager. He was the reception and we weren't able to get in contact with him when we had trouble getting our keys at arriavel. Very very bad. But, cheap hostel. Clean common areas WITH AIRCON. But very empty, no people. No windows. The bathrooms where ok and clean. Close to the French quarter which was nice. When we met the manager he gave us some recommendations which was nice. If you are looking for a place TO CRASH AFTER BOURBON STREET, perfect match. If you are looking for a enjoyable hostel experience with new hostel friends - not the place for you! NO NEW FRIENDS!

Yelp
I love this hostel and will definitely return. Everything is kept very clean! Staff are amazing and sometimes they take you out with them on the town. They are all fellow travelers that work at the hostel for housing. I had the best time, and if I ever get fired from my career, I will drop everything and move into the City House Hostel in NOLA!

Yelp
City house was amazing. Staff is friendly and helpful, and the hostel nightly events are free and a great way to meet people to be social in a city that you are visiting. The facilities were clean and everything we expected. You could tell that the staff genuinely wants everyone to have a great time and does their best to make sure it happens
