I recently took a group of 30 teachers from my school district on a City Institute bus tour of Detroit, and the experience was outstanding! Our tour guide, Chris Copacia, was incredibly helpful, from the early planning stages all the way through the follow-up after the tour. He even shared additional resources and a great list of recommended lunch spots. The tour itself was exceptional. Chris did a fantastic job highlighting both the rich history and the ongoing challenges of each site we visited. His knowledge, thoughtfulness, and engaging style made the experience meaningful for everyone in our group. The City Institute offered a tour de force. Jeanette's awareness of the multi-faceted nature of Detroit's history made this one of the best tours I've taken of a city. She provided a context for buildings that included not only an awareness of architecture and design, but also the history and motivations of builders and architects. She was effective at explaining what made development projects in Detroit distinct and maintained a balanced approach to the city's challenges.
