On the Grid : City Issue

"This is our happy place. City Issue is a beautifully curated collection of Mid-Century magnificence for the home and office. The inventory is always fresh and their twice a year sidewalk sales are killer! I would live there if they would let me. I’m cool with sleeping on the modular sofa, really." - Brand Bird

We instantly fell in love with this shop. From furniture, decor, art, lighting, and everything in between - this store offers an immersive mid century modern dream shopping experience. We snagged a wine rack and can’t wait to add it to our bar at home.

Love this place! Awesome mid century modern decor, furnishings & fixtures!

Google
This is my go to spot for mid century and Scandinavian furniture. Items are well curated and top quality. Prices may seem high but if you shop around you won't find this quality, new or used, anywhere near these prices.

Google
Mid-century modern antique shop. Great for when you are looking for something in like new condition, already restored. Reasonable prices. I love their collection! I have a piece of blenko glass from them, plus a Kip Stewart credenza that they restored to absolutely perfect condition.

Beautiful new location in Candler Park! We’re excited to have them in the neighborhood with all their co vintage stuff! Great gifts for those who appreciate furniture, small wares, lighting and other goodies from past decades.

My husband and I brought our big truck and moving pads eager to buy some furniture. My husband arrived first and was not greeted. I arrived a few minutes later and I was not greeted. The owner/man at the cash register was engulfed in a conversation with two people and never bothered to look up, acknowledge our existence, or speak to us in any way. We then took our truck, moving pads, and thousands of dollars to Atlanta Used Furniture for some Mid-Century Modern pieces where we received top-notch service.

Google
Awesome place! Great location. Decent prices. The art was especially exceptional. Also saw some pieces in person I have only seen online. Great selection of smalls (candle holders, bowls, lighters, etc) which I really appreciate. Will definitely visit again.

Google
I love mid century modern Danish furniture and this place is just jam packed with it. The owner is knowledgeable. The breath and depth of the inventory is amazing and its all in pristine condition. Check it out!

Yelp
Being the owner of a smallish house, I've come to embrace mid-century modern styling, which makes my little bungalow appear a bit more spacious. However, I'm also a Very Lazy Shopper who just wants to get what she needs and be done with it. I've never been the type to hunt for items so vintage stores have never really been my jam. I'd had my eye on a West Elm sideboard but the buying process turned out to be a disaster. But I digress. Let's talk about City Issue. I gave up on WE and started poking around the online inventory of Atlanta's many vintage shops. I'd tabbed a few items and found myself coming back to a walnut sideboard from City Issue. It was a little out of my comfort zone style-wise but it was exactly what I was looking for utility-wise and price-wise. I used the "Inquire" button on their website to request a hold on it to see it in person. Someone got back to me within just a few minutes! The in-person experience was fantastic. The inventory is gorgeous and it made me all the more upset with myself for defaulting to giant corporate furniture stores. I unfortunately did not get the name of the employee who helped me but gosh, did she help! She had me bring my car around while she got the piece on wheels, helped us load it into the car, and even helped out with the most effective way to tie it down and keep the trunk from damaging it. This piece was over a foot longer than the WE sideboard, which was less expensive but adding in shipping, totaled only $3 cheaper than what I ended up with. I was exceedingly pleased with the entire experience and would absolutely come back.

Yelp
One of the best places in Atlanta to get high quality vintage furniture. I've gotten a couple of pieces from there and they have been great and at a fair price.

Yelp
This store had some of the most beautiful mid century modern furniture I've seen in my life. I almost felt like I was in a gallery because there were so many beautiful pieces to admire. Right off the belt line, around the corner from several great restaurants, I would say there's not a lot of parking- we ended up stopping in after eating lunch, so we were parked in a lot for our restaurant. I ended up getting a Catherine Holm enamel pot for $16, which I thought was a very fair deal!

Yelp
Great selection and the inventory is constantly evolving. The owners have great taste and the prices are reasonable. If you like mid century modern design, this place is for you.

Yelp
The furniture is ornate and original, not the typical box store. They have furniture of all sizes. I appreciate the staff offering to help, but not aggressively trying to sell me any furniture. They provided a discount based on multiple purchases. I will return

Yelp
Y// Maryland Dan. OMG can't breathe cuz I love the furniture here, OMG can't breathe cuz the prices are out of this atmosphere. It's like a retro vintage furniture MUSEUM. Loved to look. Service was off putting. Person was sitting in a lounge chair and just talking to another couple and didn't even say hi or acknowledge us. That's ok cuz we got to look around without being bothered or followed. Beware also -parking is a struggle here. (Read: no parking except street parking and illegally parking in the kale and co parking lot in a pinch. Man do I wish I won the lotto or invented something that made me oddles of money so I could afford some of the used furniture in this place. Love love love this place. Would recommend if you can totally afford it and will definitely go back to look.

Yelp
Like mid-century style and Danish Modern furnishings? Then you'll love City Issue. A utopia of clean lines, fresh colors, and quirky accessories; some new, some authentically vintage. No matter, I loved it all. Pretty much everything was living room ready, I saw very little, if any, bedroom or patio furniture. Things were for the most part pretty reasonably priced: this isn't thrift at all, everything is in impeccable condition. Definitely stop in here if you're looking for that perfect statement piece, whether it's a huge credenza to replace those run of the mill entertainment centers or a funky swag light. But stay away from the kidney shaped coffee table. That sucker's mine.

Yelp
One of Atlanta's first mid-century modern stores, City Issue opened in 2001 and quickly caught the eye of the Garden Hills cinema crowd. At least that's how I discovered it! Continues to have a penchant for affordable, interesting gifts in addition to the vintage furniture and houseware inventory. A few years ago, one of the owners departed to open Victory Vintage in Decatur, but City Issue remains a true gem. Pristine artifacts from Eames to Herman Miller to Knoll, plus vintage light fixtures, rugs, bookshelves and more. A well-appointed store with a constant turnover of inventory. Update: City Issue has moved to a huge new space on Elizabeth Street in Inman Park, bigger and better than ever.

Yelp
This is one of those stores that I waffle on. I have bought a couple of things here. 1. Old Teak Coffee Table. It was stamped by the original manufacturer and the price on it was decent. Had some damage underneath it they pretended not to notice when they priced it. Few scratches on top that could be sanded out. They let me haggle with them a little on the price. Thought it a decent buy but nothing spectacular from a pricing perspective even though they had marked it down because it had been sitting on their floor for so long. 2. Fold out Desk, rosewood veneer and poplar: Scandanavian unit that looked like an armoir until you opened it up and found a cool desk. Some damage on the unit but not anything that couldn't be repaired. They would not haggle on this unit as it was new in the store. Have a big issue with this unit. The store kind of masked the mildew smell emanating from the desk. When I got it home it was pretty damn smelly. Currently just sits in my hallway hoping time will take the smell away. Tried Odor sponges but no success. Truly, I have better luck and significantly better pricing just shopping around town and on the internet. Their miscellaneous items, glasses, barware, and other "mid century" stuff is definitely overpriced. Furniture used to be a much better value until they started getting a large demand from suckers willing to pay. This is a last resort kind of place for me, but it does have some nice stuff and every once in a while you can score a decent deal.

Yelp
Love this store!! They have an incredible selection of mid century modern furniture, decor, and artwork, all in excellent condition. Just purchased a beautiful table here and would highly recommend!

Yelp
J and I, wanting to make the most of a house that we bought for its entertaining space but haven't even purchased seating space to entertain, have finally hired a designer to help us out. She pointed us in the direction of City Issue. She showed me some cabinets on the website (which were actually on sale!) and said they fit the aesthetic we were thinking, she would get them for us. When she went to the store, there was a small detail that she wanted us to see in person, so she asked us to visit ourselves, and take a look at a set of chairs in the mean time. The cabinets were all right - they're more functional than beautiful, being solid walnut and therefore very sturdy (and kid-friendly). But the chairs - oh the chairs! So beautiful. They were not a budgeted expense, so I asked if there was any kind of a discount, and Kevin explained that I could get 10% off just about anything over $500. Never hurts to ask! While I was waiting for J to show up and help me load the chairs and cabinets, I browsed the rest of the store and found several more pieces that I would love. All the pieces in the store are in great condition. This stuff isn't cheap, but it is old, so you know that it will last! There was another couple in the store, browsing through the decorative objects - lighters, glassware, bottle openers, etc. They happened upon a set of sword shaped cocktail skewers (fancy metal toothpicks) and were very excited about it. This also got me excited since I'm 95% sure that my mom has 2 sets of these at home... so now I know where to bring my parents "mid-century" stuff when they finally decide to part with it! When J did arrive, we had plenty of help loading the cars. And when one of the pieces didn't fit, they just said to call if we wanted to come on a Monday or Tuesday (when they're closed) to arrange the pick up. So friendly and helpful! #Yelp365 - 242/365

Yelp
When it comes to modern furniture City Issue is my kind of style. Just about everything in here I could see in my place, from the vintage TV to the awesome chaise lounges. It's definitely not cheap, but this style of furniture is extremely popular, so they know they can charge for it. If you're into 50s and 60s designer furniture than you've found your mecca in Atlanta! They'd have 5 stars if they were a bit more affordable!

Yelp
Excellent store, wonderful service, great selection of mid century stuff. Typically pricey, as with ALL mid century modern vintage stores.

Yelp
If I didn't just go broke buying my first home, a mid-century modern gem, I would definitely fill it all with furniture from City Issue. They are the place to go if you're looking for mid-century and Danish modern furniture impeccable shape. Pretty much every piece in the shop has been restored. The prices are a bit expensive, at least compared to Ikea stuff. But it's good solid furniture. Definitely sign up for their email updates to know when new pieces arrive at the store or for upcoming sales.

Yelp
Walking into City Issue two things instantly happen to me. The first is I get excited about all of the exquisite mid century furniture. I moonlight by finding mostly mid centruy, danish modern, and retro furniture but rarely do I ever see much less find for sale examples like the ones they have here. Second, I figure out exactly how much I can spend before depleating my wallet entirely. They absolutely pay attention to detail here. Of course there are ways to hide dings and damage to vintage furniture. I do feel the good folks at CIty Issue do a fantastic job at stocking only the finest of finds! If you are into the style and having a crappy day, do a walkthrough and it will cheer you up.

Yelp
City Issue is pretty much one of the most fabulous stores around. I get happy just walking in here and browsing, but I get REALLY happy when I find someone the perfect gift here, which happens often. My boyfriend and I are working on building a really stylish bar - and so I stalk the glassware here - the coupes, ball glasses, martini shakers, sets of cordials - I can't get enough! I adore the art, the furniture, and the owners here are so wonderful at helping you find the perfect thing. I follow them on facebook now and I like seeing the new things there. Next time you're looking for the perfect gift for someone who has everything, come to city issue, and you may find something for yourself, too!

Yelp
This mid-centiry modern store is an absolute gem. Many have commented on their prices, but I think some perspective is warranted. The things in this store are real, are fully restored, and are built to last. The 1950's and '60's equivalents of Ikea and Rooms to Go didn't last long enough to make it to city issue. In other words, the same quality costs a lot more brand new. I get excited about this kind of stuff. I don't know where these guys find their inventory, but they know what they are doing. Even if you don't want to buy furniture, even if you are not interested in design, you will raise your personal style points just by visiting this place.

Yelp
Did anyone else know about this place? Okay, I know, of course, however I have a client nearby, have lived around for years and am ALWAYS around here and we just stumbled across it over the break. It is SO cool. I remember when the stuff they sell was popular; there are "House of Denmark" -like models, those big-ass coffee table lighters, etc. The place is right across the street from Pure in Inman Park - go by and take a cool stroll through history (or should I say 'saunter'?).

Yelp
Funky, fierce, fabulous! This is a fantastic store that specializes in mid century modern, "Danish modern" furniture and home accessories that is vintage but in nice condition. Rugs, teak accesories, lighting, seating, coffee and end tables, credenzas, dining tables and seats galore! I LOVE this store! It's not cheap but you can count on this furiture being quality, unlike most of its present counterparts. If you think this place is expensive, you clearly haven't been to Cantoni or Room & Board, which are much higher priced. Go visit City Issue, you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
My dad had an antique store when I was growing up, I have spent lots of time in antique stores/flea markets/etc. City Issue is really at a different level without all the pretension that usually comes along with that. I've bought some of my favorite pieces at this store, things I know I will keep [as opposed to the things I've bought at C&B or WestElm that feel a little more disposable]. It's all legit, well made, in great shape. The staff are really helpful and not pushy. I go there often to browse around because the inventory changes often.

Yelp
City Issue is a great place for contemporary furniture. I've bought a number of pieces from the City Issue crew. The furniture range from vintage, restored, new and City Issues designed and built. They have recently added more art and some vintage lamps that are reworked with custom shades. City Issue also carries unique items that are great gifts for your friends that enjoy "design".

Yelp
Fabulous selection of vintage furniture, art and more! Owners are very knowledgeable. We've made numerous purchase over the last few months with no regrets. Great store!
