City of Perth library have great facilities for families. We mainly visit level 4, the children’s level. They have a great variety of children’s/teens books, with lots of space to sit and read. They also have a little outdoor area with a lovely tree and views of the river. There are also toilets with baby change tables.

When visiting new cities we generally pop in to the state libraries to see their collections and you can really find some amazing hidden gems, not so for the City of Perth Library as it is just a library. So if you are looking for somewhere quiet and to get a book to read, this is your place.

A library located in the city centre of Perth. The architecture is incredible, and the design is very aesthetic, with lots of cool spots to take aesthetic photos. There are plenty of book options from variety of categories to choose from. The library also has 5 floors, with variety of spots you prefer to read books or do some work. However, the place might not be fully cool and it can be slightly hot. But overall, this is a must-visit, especially with its nice architecture.

Stopped by for a short visit to see the interesting architecture and wow, I wished I had some time to really find a space to sit down and enjoy the area. It's very spacious and each level has a unique space to explore, be it a small space with trees or little rooms and study nooks.

I have an interview and I dont have a job. Apparently,I have to pay for their meeting rooms just to attend interview and it is quite expensive. While, student's study rooms are free and all of them were empty. But, I dont fit in their age criteria. How this adding value to a local workforce? On top! They dont have free wifi. You have to rely on perth free wifi with just 2gb limit which is normally available for tourists to find maps as 2gb is very less.

I recently visited the City of Perth Library, and it was a fantastic experience! The library is beautifully designed with modern, spacious interiors, making it a wonderful place to spend time. I went there to study and read some books, and it was perfect for that. The atmosphere was quiet and peaceful, exactly what I needed to focus on my work without any distractions. There are plenty of comfortable seating options, from individual desks to cozy reading nooks, so it’s easy to find a spot that suits your preference. The natural light flowing through the large windows creates a calm and inviting environment, making it a relaxing place to spend several hours. The selection of books is impressive, with a wide variety of genres, and the organization of the library makes it easy to find what you’re looking for. In addition to the excellent atmosphere, the staff were friendly, approachable, and always willing to help if I had any questions. It’s clear that the library is well-maintained and cared for. Whether you’re looking for a quiet place to study, read, or simply unwind, the City of Perth Library is an ideal choice. I’ll definitely be visiting again soon!

I came here to study with my friends for up coming exams. We had studied for a few hours and we didn’t want to disturb anyone’s peace so we went to the toilets (disabled) to talk and take a breather. (We didn’t choose to take this break outside because we didn’t want to leave our laptops alone for too long). After around 3 minutes we heard a knock on the door, “security” we opened the door and he told us to grab our things from the top floor and leave the building. He had given us very minimum information as to why we were getting kicked out but did inform us that there was a disabled person in the building. We definitely had realised our mistake at this point and we would have immediately stopped and continued our study if asked to do so or simply given a warning. Instead he made it very clear we had to leave immediately and then followed us to our floor to leave. I understand what we did may have caused slight issues although, we were very exhausted during this time and the other toilets were preoccupied so we simply wanted to use the disabled one to go to the toilet. We assumed being in there for 3 minutes would cause absolutely no problems and if we had heard that someone wished to use it, we would of been out in no time but even prior to using these toilets we made sure no one needed to use it. After the security guy stated we must leave I was very caught off guard as I thought disabled toilets were okay to use if necessary as we really needed to go. Once again, I understand this CAN be problematic but to my understanding we caused no issues whatsoever. I truly wished to ask why it was so urgent we had to leave (immediately) but upon looking at this man I was silenced into fear as he followed us to the fifth floor (how did he know we were there?). As three young teenagers, it was a very intimidating and uncomfortable situation. I don’t usually come to the city and I thought the library of all places would be a safe sanctuary to complete my studies. I was clearly proven wrong. Additionally, when asked to leave I felt this security man following us the entire journey to our stuff was a very uncomfortable situation and unnecessary. If we were asked to leave politely I would of been more respectful towards this request but I truly felt misunderstood and overwhelmed. This misconception made us all felt very humiliated as young girls who just wanted to prepare for exams. I must add we all felt extremely unsafe. It makes me wonder if he assumed we were doing something else in these toilets. If this IS in fact an assumption made by this security man, I believe you must be viewed innocent until any facts actually prove this. I honestly feel very discriminated against and I doubt I can ever see myself returning. I believe the city should always stand as a welcoming, respectful place especially for young adults in an unfamiliar environment.

My experience at this library today, completely humiliated and offended me. For context, my friends and I have our exams in 2 weeks and decided that studying at a library would be more productive than staying at home. We were in the youth space on the 5th floor which was lovely and quiet, and for 3 hours we were productive. We were causing no disturbance to others and kept completely to our own, not wanting to disturb the quiet and peaceful atmosphere. After the third hour, like the normal teenagers we are, wanted to take a brain break. One of my friends wanted to go to the toilet, so we went to the floor “mezzanine” and entered the girls toilets. That’s when we decided we needed a longer brain break and if we wanted to chat we couldn’t go back to the silent 5th floor. (We were tired of studying, sue us!) Someone then entered the female bathroom so we left as to not disturb them with our chatter. Afterwards we searched for a private place (again because we didn’t want to cause a disturbance), and after waiting 15 minutes and searching for 15 minutes, the disabled bathroom was empty so we decided to enter. There was no one waiting for the bathroom or anyone on the same floor really. We weren’t harming anyone. After 3 minutes, we heard banging on the bathroom door. As 3 young girls we were terrified, only for our fear to be intensified as the man on the other side of the door yelled “security”. We thought someone urgently needed to use the toilet so we opened the door to leave only to be met by the security guard. My friends and I were stunned into silence, what did we do? The man told us we had to take our stuff from the 5th floor (how did he know we were there?) and leave the entire library. He then followed us into the elevator where he told us the library wasn’t a “playground” and someone on the first floor was on a wheelchair. To preface we didn’t see anyone waiting when we left the toilet or entered and if he kindly or even maybe just asked us to leave we would’ve done so immediately. We just wanted to study, we wanted to take a break and we wanted to feel safe. This experience has made me feel extremely embarrassed, unsafe and belittled. If you are a young person in Australia you should not go to this library as they are extremely unwelcoming to young people.

Yelp
Mesmerized by a library! What a beautiful library. At first I didn't know what it was. Once In entered, I realized it was a library. The main floor is surrounded with glass. We can see everything outside us. The second floor to the top had wooden slats outside. Beautiful! They have the latest technology! Inside it is amazing as well. It really looks like a piece of art. Truly beautiful! Even the ceiling is attractive! At the very top, we can see views from Perth. Wow! This is truly a luxury library. I was mesmerized by its beauty!

Yelp
I love this library! How lucky the residents of Perth are to have this available to them for free. As the others have described, a simple stunning beautiful building. Most importantly however, a great collection of books and DVDs! Other great things about this library: *Easy to use hold systems so you can reserve books when someone else has them out *Access to digital titles through the Overdrive/Libby app - like a Kindle but free! Download this immediately if you don't have it already *Access to Lynda online training on thousands of topics - another great bonus of your membership. *Computers and printing facilities available *Regular events are held here which I have enjoyed attending e.g. one on Indian healthy cooking I always enjoy visiting here and browsing the shelves. One of my favourite places to visit in the city!

Yelp
Kerry Hills Architects should be applauded on designing the City of Perth's brand new library. The building is visually impressive and architecturally sound. A beautiful edifice which threw its doors open to the public on 1 March 2016. People came in droves to admire and gawk and they were not disappointed. The library is aesthetically pleasing with many delightful features that will please both young and old. It appears no expense has been spared as a fine, green granite has been used on the outside and the inside of the building. As well, five different types of wood have been utilized. It overlooks the reflection pool and the living green wall. I was intrigued by the wall as the botanist has used 41 different species and 3450 different plants to create it. As it is a hydroponic wall, no soil or particles that age or move were required. It is ecologically sound and brings a real energy to the area. The Weeping Fig tree on Level 4 was lifted into position by a crane and will prove to be popular with the young ones. The ceiling is adorned with a stunning piece of artwork by artist Andrew Nicholls and gives you an excellent reason to look up. The high vaulted ceiling and the design of the building results in a space that is open and filled with light. There are seven different levels in total and one can certainly get some exercise climbing to the top. Should you wish there is a lift available. The view is worth it and you can always sit in the sun and read to your heart's content. It is very spacious with lots of seating scattered throughout. The facilities are excellent as there is an auditorium, print room and toilets on every level. You can use the self service facility to check out your books and DVDs on most floors. As it has just opened, the signage for different genres of fiction is not yet in place but I am confident this will be rectified in time. Also I have noted there is an absence of new books and I sincerely hope the budget will stretch to allow for this. At the end of the day, a library is basically a home for books and I, for one, prefer less frills and more books!

Yelp
I haven't been to the library since 2013, when my studies acme to an end. When I saw that their new library was open, I couldn't resist the urge to check it out. The building itself is truly stunning. It's circular, with wood panelling everywhere, and muted carpeting. The library is split across multiple levels. The circulation desk is on the ground floor, with a mezzanine above. Level 1 is adult fiction, Level 2 is for adult non-fiction. DVD's and Blu-ray's are on Level 3, with a dedicated kid's library on 4. The top floor contains the local history library and a space for young adults. My one issue is the incredibly slow speed of the lifts, so I just ended up walking everywhere. By the end, my legs were burning. THe spiral staircase that wraps around the core of the building gets narrower the higher you go, so I was feeling a little claustrophobic by the time I got to the top. Overall, I am very impressed with what I saw. We need more buildings like this.

Yelp
Dislike the place, The building has a winding stairway around the perimeter which need to be used often as the lifts are dead slow. Shelving is all over the shop and the categorising of the fiction section beyond understanding, Don't mention the non fiction sections - cataloguing is also incomprehensible. Staff cluster whispering in little groups and don't like being asked to assist, probably because they don't seem to know how to find anything either.. I've given up and now visit my nearest suburban library..
