16 Best Things to Do in Denver, From Speakeasies to Wildlife Reserves | Condé Nast Traveler

"City Park, a sprawling 330-acre park east of Downtown Denver, is way more than green space—it’s also home to the Denver Zoo and the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. Manicured gardens and two scenic lakes show off views of the city skyline, and paths attract walkers, runners, and bikers. A Spanish-style pavilion in the center is often used as an event space, and its columns, arches, and waterfront location also make it a photogenic backdrop. For an epic sunset, park at the museum and walk west around the building toward Ferrill Lake. On the way, you’ll pass a kids' splash fountain and a playground; from there, you’ll see the sunset with the lake, city skyline, and Rocky Mountains all glowing in magic-hour light." - Nicholas DeRenzo, Megan Barber

City Park

"Let’s start big picture here. This sprawling 330-acre park east of Downtown Denver is way more than a green space—it’s also home to the Denver Zoo and the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. Manicured gardens and two scenic lakes show off views of the city skyline, and paths attract walkers, runners, and cyclists. A Spanish-style pavilion in the center is often used as an event space, and its columns, arches, and waterfront location also make it a photogenic backdrop. How's the navigation—was it easy to get around?Enter from the north on 23rd street for easy parking and access to the tennis courts and playground. Runners can follow the trail on the outskirts of the park, while walkers will prefer to amble around the color-changing fountains at Ferrill Lake. Plentiful benches offer a chance to enjoy the views. Any insider tips for us?For an epic sunset, park at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science and walk west around the building toward Ferrill Lake. On the way, you’ll pass a kids' splash fountain and a playground; from there, you’ll see the sunset with the lake, city skyline, and Rocky Mountains all glowing in magic-hour light. All said and done, what—and who—is this best for?City Park is a haven for outdoorsy types looking for exercise and for families needing room to run, especially because the zoo is located onsite." - Megan Barber

Beautiful city park. The staff from the Maintenance Crew to the Rangers are very helpful. The residents are lucky to have such a green space near them

The flowers are all in full bloom, fish were jumping out of the water, and there were people in paddle boats shaped like swans paddling across the small lake. A proud parent looked on while his family fished patiently from shore, and kids were playing across the park. There were Frisbee disks flying, a volleyball game too. What a beautiful place to ride a bicycle.

The restrooms are permanently closed and the freeze proof water fountain has been turned off. Someone from Denver Parks and Rec then decides to place the porta potties the roadway which is the d8 bike route. This doesn't happen in Wash Park.

This is a DIY wedding dream venue! This place is a really cool blank canvas. Bring in your favorite food truck, some furniture, bartenders, and get creative with your decor and you'll be creating your dream wedding! The space is really neat, and quite large for what it is. I had a ton of fun photographing a wedding there!

We rented the Pavilion for our daughter's wedding reception and could not be happier with our choice! Park staff was amazing (thank you, Frank, Thomas and Mark!) We were able to attend several open houses beforehand, which helped with planning. Swan boats were a fun activity for our guests during the social hour! The concessionaire who rents the boats and surrey bikes allowed us to run a tab and pay for the rides at the end of the night. A lovely time all around!

City park is really fun to explore! I have taken out the swan paddle boats, attended dog training, walked the park, and most recently attend Jazz in the Park on Summer Sundays from 6-8 pm. It's an amazing event (free), and has all kinds of food trucks and a beer tent. You can also bring your own picnic setups. There's tons of good trees for hammocks and shade from the sun.
