Back alleys and cabaret performances inspire Jalan Besar's new night walk - SilverKris

"Launched in 2009 and marketed as the city’s first eco-friendly mall, this modern shopping complex was built on the historic grounds of a former amusement park, tying contemporary retail and sustainability messaging to a site with deep local entertainment history." - Alexandra Karplus

Decent local mall with some major brands such as Decathlon. At the ground floor there are multiple smaller restaurants and coffee shops which seems to be popular for local people. It is easy to navigate here and is accessible by wheelchair from all entrances. Highly recommended!

My journey to City Square Mall begins the moment you step off the train at Farrer Park MRT, as the station leads me directly into Singapore's first eco-mall. This isn't just any shopping center; it’s a vibrant community hub where urban life meets a green heart. As you enter, you discover a world of over 200 shops, from the trendy accessories of Charles & Keith to the everyday convenience of a large NTUC FairPrice supermarket. When hunger calls, the aromas lead you to a diverse feast, whether you're craving the quick comfort of Popeyes or the bustling local options at the Food Republic food court. The true soul of the mall, however, lies in its commitment to nature and community. Step outside and you'll find yourself in City Green, a sprawling urban park woven seamlessly into the mall's design, offering a breath of fresh air and a space for ecological discovery. On weekends, the atmosphere buzzes with life as live singing sessions fill Level 4, and you might even stumble upon a public piano, inviting anyone to share a melody. It’s a place that encourages you to linger, whether you're participating in a book donation drive or simply enjoying the lively, green-conscious environment. Easily accessible by bus or car, with a generous parking promotion on weekdays, City Square Mall is more than a destination for retail therapy. It’s an experience—a story of sustainable living, community connection, and modern convenience, all unfolding under one green roof.

The newly revamped City Square Mall now offers more retail and F&B options, making it a livelier destination for shoppers. Improved lighting and refreshed interior décor have created a more pleasant and comfortable environment. The 60's retro-themed Food Republic food court in the basement, which serves a good variety of local delicacies. Supermarket choices such as FairPrice and Don Don Donki provide added convenience. Popular spots like McDonald's, Tim Hortons, and Starbucks also contribute to the mall’s appeal. With its completed upgrades and seamless access from Farrer Park MRT, City Square Mall is now more popular than ever.

I was here recently and went up to the highest level to explore. Seems like they have a good place for someone to hold a small seminar here but in a public place that is quite exposed to other sounds. But useful nevertheless. Not seen in this short video but here. While waiting for appointment time for lunch and meeting up with friends on a Thursday afternoon, I shot this video.

Nice decorations that I really enjoy looking at. The only thing I do not like is the ONLY walkway to Farrer Park mrt exit G where my bus stop locates. That walkway is plagued with smokers, including staff, taking their break. Please provide them a better smoking spot so passersby do not get affected by their habits.

The newly renovated City Square Mall is like a "perfect" shopping mall. A wide variety of F&B, learning centers, family activties, cinema , entertainments, supermarket, fashion outlets, IT stores, furniture stores, exhibition area, etc. The top floor with super high ceiling provides that super spacious dinning experience. It is a fun place to hangout and enjoy, especially for family to enjoy a weekend of fun and entertainment.

Google
City Square Mall has become our usual stop whenever we go to Mustafa Centre or visit the biggest Decathlon store nearby. It’s a nice mall to explore convenient, clean, and has plenty of good shops and food options. Definitely a great place to stop by when you’re in the area! 🛍️✨

Yelp
Located close to Little India, this full function shopping mall is convenient and comprehensive! You can find almost anything here! From supermarket to beauty shops, from sit down restaurants to snack stalls. But what I like most about this place is there is a Ding Tai Feng restaurant on the first floor! Chinese dumpling fans who can't get into some of their more popular locations can easily get in here without too much waiting!

Yelp
Not sure why this place got such low ratings, I loved this place. I liked it more than most of the other millions of malls here because it has stores that I can actually afford. Walking past a bunch of high dollar purse and jewelry stores at Ion Orchard does nothing for me because I can't afford those places. I like cheap to medium priced and realistic stores. ha! Therefore, I like City Square mall. Like most of the nicer malls, the bathrooms here are clean. I'm not sure what makes this mall "green" but I liked it. The food here doesn't have a whole lot of variety, but it's still decent. I'd trade the crap we have in most American malls for these eateries. I'm new to Singapore, but this is the 10th Toast Box franchise I've seen. I like that name, Toast Box.

Yelp
This mall is a decent size with a large selection of food vendors in the food court which is located on the top floor. Also they have quite a few restaurants scattered through out the mall. They have a fair price located on the bottom of the floor which is supermarket like Walmart in North America.

Yelp
Went to try the fish soup at the food court yesterday. Don taste as good nothing special, any other fish soup taste from any shop can taste better. Noting special, just the marketing is good.

Yelp
City Square mall is considered to be eco-friendly. I just see a lot of greenery but heck, it's much better compared to other malls. Located just off Farrer MRT, you can easily access another bargain shopping spot known as Mustafa Centre. It's not that I don't like crowds. I find that I like this place mainly because I don't get overwhelmed with alot of people. Hence, I enjoy my window shopping moment. When I get tired of the inside, I just go outside and enjoy the architecture of the mall and its surrounding displays. On Christmas holidays, they had these amazing white reindeer displays and I can't wait to see what they have to offer this coming holidays. The location of the mall may seem off to others but with its unique selling point, I think it's worth a visit.

Yelp
This mall reminds me of a friend of mine - he hates butterflies with a vengeance. Being the first 'eco mall' in Singapore, City Square felt the need to constantly remind visitors that yes we love nature and the stuff that comes with it - by painting all their walls with butterflies and flowers, especially on the walkways towards the toilets. That said, the toilets in the mall are one of the most comfortable I've seen. It's big with mirrors all around, there are child basins and taps, and the décor is white, clean and spacious. None of the fancy lighting ala Ion Orchard. Despite having a great concept for once that is not about bright billboards and more money, City Square falls short in not having good anchor tenants. The place was mostly empty the handful of times I visited it. On a good side, this means no queue at places where you'd usually have to queue elsewhere like Bysi or Astons.

Yelp
This mall is a great mix of tenants, with something for everyone, except a general lack of fashionable clothes, which is okay. Who shops for clothes in a suburban mall anyway? If you're looking for food, snacks, chain restaurants, a great supermarket, or just a sit down and a coffee, this is your mall to be in. There's free lunchtime parking with a minimum spend methinks, and it's right on top of Farrer Park MRT, so nice and accessible. Good for the family, but caution, on the weekends it's hard to buy alcohol here, because of the ban on alcohol around Little India.

Yelp
I am honestly confused by the many other reviews claiming that this mall is quiet. I live across the road and come here all the time... and it always seems incredibly busy to me. This is a family friendly mall. For some of you, that may be a good thing. For me, that is the stuff of nightmares. Imagine needing to do a simple grocery run and having to fight through 100 screaming toddlers in the middle of the frenzied enjoyment of some kind of performance. Does that sound like fun to you? It isn't fun. I assure you. It is no one's definition of fun. If you have a family, I'm glad you can take your kids here and have them entertained for free. Even if I did have kids, I'd rather just take them to the park, but that's just me. Moreover, there's nothing in this mall that is particularly special. If you looked up "typical suburban Singapore mall" in the dictionary, this place would probably pop up. It has a Metro, a FairPrice, a Uniqlo, a Cotton On, a Charles & Keith & a lacklustre food court. The highlights are probably the cinema and the Cedele... and you can read my review of the Cedele to see how much of a "highlight" I consider this to be.

Yelp
This is one of the favorite hangouts of my family. It has all that we need, and the place is not crowded, like what other reviewers has mentioned. It is fairly easy to find seats at restaurants in here, other than a few popular restaurants (Aston's, Manhattan seafood) that always has a long queue. Being a green mall, it has reserved slots for green cars (e.g. Hybrids, electrics); so I am always can find a parking slot in here. There is also lunch hour free parking. The supermarket in it is large and cheap (NTUC). Cineplex is opening soon, and a toy-r-us too.

Yelp
This. Mall. Is. So. Sleepy. There is never a crowd whenever I come over. There's nothing much to see or do, not much halal food options either (unless I walk over to Serangoon) but the unique selling point lies in the fact that it's very environmentally friendly. No strong business names, I honestly wonder this mall can survive.

Yelp
I'm obviously a fan of empty shopping malls and City Square Mall is one of those empty quiet and serene one on weekdays. This is known as a food mall to the residents around the area because that's the only thing that draws people there other than the supermarket. Major chains as Aston's, Putien, Sushi Tei, Swensens, Manhattan fish market are available here. Even Hot Star Large Fried Chicken is available in the basement and i say that is a must eat if you are here. Shopping wise, it's really pathetic. Unless you dig the stuff at Metro, there are hardly anything to look at. Maybe Cotton On? They really need to do something about it.City Square mall draws a strong student crowd after school, but the mall is so spacious you wouldn't even feel their presence. One of the selling point of the mall is that it is eco-friendly. You won't really feel the effect of that. They do not turn down the air conditioning for sure. I'm not sure how that is working out as a marketing technique though. This is somewhere I'll head to if i want some peace and quiet when the nearby Nex shopping mall is too crowded.

Yelp
City Square Mall is located on the site of the historical New World Park and is a stone throw away from the famous Mustafa. This mall also boost to be Singapore First Eco Mall. To me, City Square mall is the nearest mall for my colleagues and I to have a quick bite and do some shopping since it has weekday lunchtime free parking from 12 to 2.30pm. This mall aims to be a family oriented mall and is currently undergoing major revamps to welcome its new tenants like Toys 'R' US, Babies 'R' US and a GV Cinema.

Yelp
This must be the quietest mall in Singapore. This is the reason why it might be an awesome one. It is situated in a very awkward place near Farrer and Little India and I suspect not many people know about its existence even though it tries really hard to brand itself as the "first eco-mall in Singapore". However the reason why I know about this place is because our office building has a shuttle bus to here every half an hour. The shuttle buses probably bring about 50% of the business to the place. During lunch there's always the option of Food Court (there's pepper lunch). Astons there is also pretty popular. Otherwise there is always Sushi Tei, which is our default Japanese place for their lunch menu. But the highlight for me is always Gong Cha at B2 which is very fast compared to other branches. The NTUC is also a good place to stock up on some light groceries if needed.

Yelp
This mall is kind of depressing because it's always so empty and has mostly second-rate shops. I'm hoping they can engineer a turnaround when the new Golden Village theatre opens at the end of the year, because it would be great to have a decent mall here.

Wayne Y.

Yelp
This mall has a sparse crowd, with the exception of a few weekends, so queuing is not a big issue. It is supposed to be an Eco Mall, with its target audience being families. It has a variety of tuition and enrichment centres that are worth checking out for your kid on the upper floors. Recently, the food court chain kopitiam has moved out, but there is no lack of food outlets and restaurants. A major disappointment is that the chain of bookstores, 'Popular' has moved out to make way for Toys Ur Us. If you are a book lover like me, check out Bras Basah Complex's pop central instead.

Yelp
City Square Mall must be one of the quietest shopping centres in Singapore. Do not even bother coming here to do much shopping (other than grocery shopping) as they do not have many good brands or major retail stores here. They do, however, have lots of restaurants and food stalls around, and due to the sparse crowd, you almost never need to queue for anything at all. City Square Mall is a place my family and I visit during the weekends to have our dinner, as everywhere else in Singapore tend to be filled with people. A few restaurants worth visiting are Putien, Mouth Kitchen and Breeks Cafe. There is also Aston's Specialties for cheap grilled meats.

Yelp
This mall has something for everyone. Shoe stores, Book stores eateries and much more! And the navigation directory is just so, simple and easy to look through. Honestly this mall is amazing. I will really recommend it to you.

Yelp
Pretty nice mall. There's a Food Republic upstairs and an insanely expensive Timezone video game arcade. What else?
