We traveled all over Taiwan and this was by far our worst hotel experience. We arrived late. Our room smelled of cigarette smoke. The hallway was also smelly — tobacco, mildew, stale food. We went down to the lobby, where a grumpy receptionist, visibly annoyed to be disturbed, curtly agreed to change our rooms. He moved us to another room on the same floor which was much smaller — we barely had enough space to put our suitcases. We were traveling with our friends, whose room was initially fine, but they too were woken up at 6am by a smell of cigarettes, and were told to pack and bring their suitcases down to the lobby if they wanted to change rooms. The odor was everywhere. The next day we asked for a partial refund to compensate for our small room, but the receptionists said the rate was the same for all rooms. Don't come here — the hotel smells and feels like a depressed old man's breath.

I have travelled a lot around the world in the last 20 years. This is by far the worse hotel I have ever stayed at in my entire life. Staff were rude, arrogant and pretended to not understand English at their convenience. We tried to check in around 12 and were told not possible until 3pm, fair enough. We came back at 2:30 pm to find at least 30 people crawled in masses in the floor and lobby waiting. We ask this time around 2:40 pm if the room was ready, plain no you have to wait to 3pm. So they take their 3pm literal and waste everyone time until its 3:00pm and there is a mad rush. The toilet was blocked and flooded. Best thing of this nightmare hotel was actually leaving it and checkin out never to be back there again. Book somewhere else is my advice. If I could give it 0 stars I would. Avoid avoid avoid

Good points - vibes and design - location Bad points - customer service - air conditioning - mosquito proof - toilet smell design The air conditioning is 27 degrees permanently even when the temperature is set to 20 degrees. Only one of the 3 air conditioning vent is blowing air. Called customer service and a old man came up to check. Started with very poor attitude, saying there is nothing he can do about it, blaming us for not informing earlier when checked in. Followed with saying that the control to change temperature does not work, it’s just for display. I have another pair of friend that verified the control to change temperature works in another room, so the old man was lying to us. He offered to change the room, but we have our luggages unpacked so we asked if we can sleep in another room for the night while leaving the luggages there (it’s the last night). He declined and said there is nothing he can do. I suggested the air conditioning should be reviewed and improved, he just said there is nothing to be done. To add on, not a single apology was mentioned for the poor attitude and the poor room service. Sleeping without blanket was tough too since there was mosquito in the room on the first night. The toilet room for the toilet bowl has a huge gap on top of the door, poop smell will reek into the room when used. Overall quite an unpleasant experience, only plus point is that it looks nice. When asking to change coin for the laundry room, to use the washing machine, the respond was unfriendly as well.

It is a really nice experience that I live in City Suites. This is my second time that I choose City Suits. All of their hotels have a really good location, excellent services and nice room design. I think if you come to Kaohsiung or say Taiwan, it is a good choice for your comfortable trip.

My room was very competitively priced: it was great value for money. The room was small and had a single window. It was very clean and the interior was newly renovated in a 19th century industrial fashion. A bit dark. There was a slight musky smell from the exposed brick wall but barely noticeable. The location is great 👍 And free coffee in the lobby.

Great initial room but we had to change it the first time after sleeping because you could hear the sound of the air conditioner ticking away, which was disturbing. And then the second room was much better. Also didn’t have many amenities at all!

There was the emergency exit sign right inside our room, which was giving off light. Other than that, the room overall was pretty nice and had all the necessary amenities. I was pleasantly surprised to find a laundry room in the hotel 24/hrs. No convenience stores in sight of the hotel, would have to walk a while.

Yelp
I really liked this place, it was the nicer of the 2 hotels I stayed at in Kaohsiung City. A few blocks away from the pier and art district, the water right there too. No beach though, the beaches are at the bottom and east side of Taiwan. Ok so the weirdest part about this room is that it didn't have windows! There were 2 other room options that had windows but I didn't think I needed them so much. It felt sooo weird without them. I would wake up at like 9:30am and it felt like it was 3am still. And they put curtains up anyways as if there should have been windows, like okk.. just put art instead. But I wasn't in the room much except for the morning so it wasn't so bad. The lack of space in the room was annoying at times. It was small for 2 people to put their stuff and move around. But we did get the lowest level room they had so I guess that makes sense. Loved the shower and loved the bathroom area. Double sided mirror so there was no need to try and fight for mirror space lol.. Ladies you know all about that LOL The shower gel they had in the shower smelled like I would smell going to high school party when I was younger so I just used what I brought instead. Breakfast is provided for you at another location just 1 minute down the street. It's a buffet with a little western style and Asian style to it. You can have fries and an omelet with pork dumplings and custard filled buns. Good good good! You all know how excited I get about food. I would recommend going with one step above the lowest level room if you stay here. This room was nice but no windows and lack of space made it 4 stars for me. There were mostly good things though and there is a lot around the area to do so you don't have to go far to eat good and have fun. Oh and everyone in Taiwan seems to like to smash the close door button on elevators so be aware of that lol.. If you think you can make it assume you can't and hope they see you and will open it up for you.
