If you're looking for a cheap clean place just to hang your hat while traveling this is it. I see some reviews are negative because they don't offer breakfast. In my opinion breakfast is usually a scam you're paying more for the room and the complimentary breakfast is usually sub par in my experiences. You're better off just going right down the street to Denny's where I had an awesome breakfast. The rooms are clean the housekeeping staff does a great job. Danny at the front desk is very polite. I had a microwave fridge nice television clean bathroom etc. It was perfect for me on my way to South Padre Island as it's right by the train station. Amtrak will only take me as far south as San Antonio. Great job City View Hotel!

Clean, comfortable, affordable room within walking distance of the Amtrak train station, the Riverwalk, and the convention center. You could probably walk to the Alamo too, but I didn't try it. I came via train and didn't bring my car, I was able to get around fine as there are also electric scooters everywhere. The man at the front desk helped me with a few things and the service was truly above and beyond. Better value than the fancier hotels nearby, I'd stay here again.

My friend and I had decided on this hotel for my birthday. The room didn’t really look like the photos, and we weren’t even given hand soap. While we were leaving, the man at the desk yelled at us and accused us of having overnight guests in the room that we paid for. When we told him that our friends had dropped us off and went up to make sure we were ok while they charged their phones, he kept arguing with us and yelling at us in front of other guests. He told us that he had been watching us on the cameras, which made me feel very uncomfortable. He then yelled at me that he would be charging me a fee for having people stay in our room, but we didn’t even have people stay overnight. I’ve never been treated like this before, and I’m pretty upset that he made fraudulent charges on my card for something I didn’t do. The description of the room said 4 people, but only the two of us stayed overnight.

Perfect spot for a quick stop. Located by freeway and river walk. Perfect amount of space and you can see your car from the hallway. Staff was very welcoming and room was clean. Very quiet. And if you know about the ac, some hotel ac suck but this one had be going to bed in socks! Perfect hotel. With tower view. Room #305

The room was nice and big with a great view of The Alamodome and Tower. We only stayed 1 night but it was a good experience and the bed was comfy too. Pics are from our 3rd floor room.

Google
(Bed made me itchy) Around events they sky rocket their prices to about 500 dollars a night and tell us it’s the “cheapest around” but I found multiple options just as close to the Dome. The outside is nice but the bottom floor and elevator smells strongly of curry. The furniture in the room is Beaton up and poorly refilled to make look better. The only good thing about this place is the parking being covered by a camera and is very well lit. The service was dry and he didn’t thank us for our business or even make eye contact with us. Very rude old guy but hey their all family so they can’t really fire anyone lol. There are better options for sure so look elsewhere.

Positive: Close to activities but not right on top of things. Negative: The area is business district but you can see the revitalization is in progress.

I stayed here while attending the San Japan anime convention and it was a pretty great experience. The owner was super friendly and made sure to let us know that the lobby was open 24 hours in case we needed something. For the price, the rooms are honestly really solid. They were visually clean and smelled pretty fresh. The mini fridge held a surprising amount of food and drink. The biggest thing for me when I'm at a hotel is water pressure in the shower. The water pressure here is comparable to home pressure. It's amazing, especially after walking in a hot costume. It's a 15 minute walk from here to the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center so it's perfect! Overall, really solid. I might book here again next year.

Yelp
Don't trust them. My husband booked his stay in February for July 22 and got a great rate. Payment due at the hotel. When we got there they said our reservation was canceled and if we wanted to stay there we would have to pay the new rate of over $200 per night (double)! This hotel is near downtown, which was sold out, so I am sure they wanted to make more money! We had stayed there many times but NEVER again. Its a cheapy hotel anyway. So happy to be staying at the Hilton Garden Inn instead. So much better. Shame on them and their shady tactics!

Yelp
It has a convient location and you can walk to the riverwalk. Parking was free. Room was very clean and comfortable. I slept well. Had a room with a big hot tub next to the bed. It's close to a rough neighborhood but plenty of police presence so I felt safe. I think it's a bit overpriced but then again it is in San Antonio

B R.

Yelp
The rooms were clean. But you can't check in before 4pm (no exceptions). And our room wasn't available until closer to 5pm. Most importantly. It is in a rough neighborhood and is VERY LOUD. there are trucks, trains, buses and sirens going off at all times of the day and night. For an 8 hour sleep, think of it more as 4 or 5 interrupted naps. Would never stay here again just based on location. Simply cannot get a good Nights sleep in a place like this. Other than that the staff was fine and rooms were suitable. But again, don't go here if you're looking to walk around the area or if you want a sound sleep.

Yelp
We stayed the night at this hotel for the New years. We have such a great view of downtown and the tower of the Americas where the fireworks will happen. Room is very clean and beds are super comfortable. We will be back next year.

Tonya G.

Yelp
We had an unexpected visit & found City View on the Hotel Tonight app. Reviews we read where pretty fair. The lobby is tiny but staff was very nice! Our room was perfect size for 2 of us. The most important part was it was clean! From floors, to towels, to surfaces, to bedding, & bathroom. Loved that checkout wasnt until noon so we weren't rushing. There is a mini fridge & microwave in the room. It's a great location to the Riverwalk. Took us 8-10 mins & it was a beautiful day! If you dont want to walk, here are electric scooters and bikes you can hop on for a $0.15/min fee. We did find out, once in our room that we weren't in a jacuzzi room as expected, but with late check in, we decided to stay were we were. We have to come back in July, so we will consider staying here again. This is a great place to stay without all the perks if you need a clean, safe, quiet stay.

Yelp
This was the WORST experience at a hotel that I have ever experienced. So there was a problem with my reservation and I called and emailed days beforehand to have this resolved, which a night manager said would resolve. Once I arrived they had the old reservation and had no notes about the change. While I was thumbing through my email and calling Expedia, the night manager Albert said he would call the police and have me removed since I "cant hang around here." He sold my room to someone else while I was left with no place to sleep for the night. He had no concern but only wanted me arrested for loitering. Boycott Lonely planet for recommending this horrible place in the WORST part of town.

Andrew ß.

Yelp
My mom who does not like large crowds was coming to visit and I didn't think the downtown hotels would be a good fit for here. This ended up being a great place for her to stay, she loved the bed, and the fact there wasn't a lot of rooms or a lot of noise, despite being a block from the train tracks. Also be advised there is a third row of blinds to black out your room from sun, just have to look for it sometimes.

Matt H.

Yelp
Stayed at this hotel for only one night (worked booked it) and I wish I had slept in my car far, far away from here. The overall condition of the hotel rooms is good and the bed was pretty comfortable but the road noise is unbelievably loud! I couldn't sleep for more than 20-40 minutes without being startled awake. The Amtrak train runs all hours of the night and blows the horn at every conceivable opportunity. At least that is how it seemed. You also have crazy loud cars driving by disturbing the not-so existent peace. Do yourself a favor and stay farther outside of town or in a different direction far always from the train station.

Emad A.

Yelp
I stayed there for one night and the next day my whole body was filled with bites, and there was two dead cockroaches on the floor I took pictures. So I went to the reception they said to call on monday to speak to the manager since it's a weekend and I was checking out because I didn't want to stay there anymore. I call on Tuesday, the manager said there are no bed bugs and you're just making it up. I told her what about the cockroaches. She said the funniest thing "come on they're only two tiny roaches, not a big deal!" So when I heard that I said thank you and I hung up. I guess the manager has no problems living with cockroaches. My advice pay the 20$ difference and stay at the holiday inn accross the street.

Yelp
We stayed at this hotel he 4th weekend in October. Bad experience. We get to our room after a full evening of activities and the tv was not working. We called room service and the lady couldn't get the tv to work either. She asked if we wanted to move to another room but by that time it was really late and we had all of our stuff unpacked so we said no of course. The lady said to speak to the manager in the morning during our check-out and that he would offer a discount for the inconvenience. We did as told. However, the manager wasn't there and the lady at the counter said the manager wouldn't give us a discount. It seems like there's a lack of communication between the manager and his employees. We won't be booking this hotel again.

Kevin W.

Yelp
We just left from our stay here. It is in a great location. The ice machine was right outside our door but sadly it didn't work properly. The room itself looked clean but smelled very musty and so did the bedding. I do like how they have keyed entry in the evening. All in all it was an ok stay.

Chelsea K.

Yelp
We only stayed for one night but would have been comfortable here for a few days. It's a newer place and I really like the fact that it is so small (like 20ish rooms). There isn't a large lobby or food onsite but it's not a long walk downtown. We made it to the Riverwalk within 20 minutes. Our room was very clean, nicely furnished with modern touches, and a comfy bed. We always have a hard time sleeping in hotels because of noise but this one is very quite! There is onsite parking which is free, but a super tiny lot with some odd parking spots. The only reason I'm giving four stars is that our room smelled musty when the AC was on. Great hotel for the price, we would definitely stay here again!

Yelp
My husband and I stayed here while on way out to points further west. I did not hold out much hope when we initially deove into town off Hwy 10 and went through what looked like a depressed industrial area. But the hotel is actually on the fringe of the downtown area. You could even walk there if you had good weather and comfy shoes. The famous Riverwalk with all its quaint shops, restaurants and craft booths. The desk clerk told us they had only been open fourteen months and the place still looked and smelled new. The bed was comfy and the room was clean. I would definitely stay here again if we ever go thru San Antonio in the future.

Yelp
This place was in a really good location. In walking distance to the river walk. It was really clean and like-new. I'd definitely recommend it! They had free parking and free wifi which was two of the main things we were looking for. They also have an ice machine and vending machine on the floors by the elevator. Very good price as well. We booked with an app on our phone and got a discount, but I can see how they would charge the regular price. The only bad things I can think of are 1) the curtains don't close on the window. I don't know if this is the case for every room, but in ours, the track that the curtain rolls on only went about half way to the middle of the window on both sides. It's not terrible, but if you're like me and like privacy it kind of sucks. There was also a bright light outside our window shining in so we had to rig the curtains as shut as we could get them with the clamps from a pants hanger. The second and last not awesome thing I can think of is that they're towels are really rough. Like no fabric softener at all. Not really a big deal unless you have a sunburn. lol The bed was extremely comfy with plenty of pillows. We had our own mini fridge and microwave with a flatscreen tv as well. I will definitely consider staying at this place next time I find myself in town!

Jerry G.

Yelp
Good location, friendly staff. Joe at the front desk was very helpful from the moment I booked the room. Walking distance from the River walk and River Center Mall. One thing that's on the downside is the parking. Not enough of it. Other than that, great place to stay!

Klarissa R.

Yelp
The room was nice. Bed was AMAZING. But the location is next to a really shady area. Houses that look condemned, it was also located really close to the haunted house "the 13th floor. Which is cool. 4/5 stars.

Yelp
My wife was booked to stay at City View Inn on 1306 E. Commerce Street in San Antonio, Tx on May 29, 2021, If we could give this review a negative negative zero, We would. To begin with the room was absolutely nasty. On the baseboard was a thick layer of dust. There were several unidentifiable stains on the bed skirt. There was an odor that was so over powering, She thought she would need an inhaler. She didn't get a chance to look at the bathroom because she truly couldn't bare to breathe in the horrible scent any longer. When she went back to the front desk, she informed the night desk clerk that she would not and could not stay in the room he placed her in. She informed him of the status of the room and it was not fit for anyone to stay in. He told her he couldn't do anything for her. He said, he couldn't cancel and refund her money. She would have to contact booking.com. She had to find another hotel to stay because "City View Inn" in San Antonio was not the spot to be at. She contacted Booking.com and they told her, she had to deal with the hotel itself. She has called the hotel several times now and she's talked with manager. The manager was extremely rude and did not care to help her with this issue, nor was the manager concerned about refunding her money. Please keep in mind, she never stayed at City View Inn hotel, She went some place else. Now She's left to taking other measures to resolve this very troubling issue.

Yelp
This is a new and quirky hotel. It was built on a narror lot so it is long and thin. However, it is very centrally located for the stadium and for the Amtrak train station. I can walk to the train station in about 5 minutes and encourage other train riders to stay here. Best value for the money for overnighting. The interior is contemporary and new. Fridge, coffeemaker, 28 or 30" TV, tile bathroom floors. Lots of pillows on the bed. A/C is a standard bottom window unit found in most low end hotels. No cenral foyer, all room open to the outside. Staff professional My room was a handicap room that is extra spacey big. I'm quite impressed, extra wide doors to bathroom, stainless handrails in shower, handicap seat to get in and out of shower, and a jacusi (sp?) tub that is a little out of place in the corner of the room, but oh well. Handicap rooms have no shower curtain but normal rooms do. Given how upscale the rooms are and their proximity to downtown attractions I'd recommend this place for visitors to downtown San Antonio, as well as train buffs.

Yelp
Intresting place. It had a strange 60/40 motel/hotel feel. Building itself was only 2 years old. Parking lot and Lobby is very small. Close to the Riverwalk. Very clean, modern room with flat screen TV. Comfortable stay. Freindly service. I stayed here on 9/5/13.

Brittany P.

Yelp
Stayed here for the alamobowl great location! Very close to the alamodome so didn't have to pay for parking for that. Close to riverwalk and alamo could walk maybe about 1/2 mile. Seemed to be limited parking but never had a problem parking. Rooms were very nice and clean, staff was always very nice and greeted you, and very reasonable compared to other hotels.

Courtney J.

Yelp
Would def stay here again! I have always been a fan of hotels attached to the Riverwalk but I think this will be our new "go-to" hotel for the area. Found this hotel on the hotel tonight. You can't beat the price! The hotel is clean and well kept. Still looks and smells brand new. The staff is very nice and helpful. It's just a short walk to the Riverwalk (Rivercenter Mall). The area behind the hotel is a little sketchy but we walked everywhere, even late at night, and had absolutely no problems. There aren't many food options in the general area - AVOID the Denny's - but again, the Riverwalk is a 5 minute walk. It's my understanding they are int he process of reviving this part of downtown.

Jen B.

Yelp
Every review here is spot on. I also got our room on Hotel Tonight and it was beyond reasonable. We stayed there on 10/24. The guy that checked us in was super nice, as was the woman the next day when we checked out. Everything was very clean, the a/c unit was not noisy like the much more expensive place we stayed at in Austin the night before. We were very comfortable here. Hadn't been to the Riverwalk in many, many years and it was a disappointment - expensive crappy food, but the Alamo was fairly interesting. I would stay here again in a heartbeat and visit other neat areas in San Antonio instead. I would give another 1/2 star if I could.

Charlie A.

Yelp
This place was incredibly accommodating to myself and my family. Everyone who worked at the front desk for the 4 nights we stayed there was friendly and gave outstanding service and advice. Especially Joe, who checked us into a full hotel on that first night. When everything downtown filled up and charged for parking, City View came through like a champ. This will be our go to place in San Antonio from now on.

Mallarie G.

Yelp
I had a broken refrigerator when I checked in Friday night, I asked for a different room because I was staying the weekend and knew I'd need to keep leftovers cold but no accommodations where made, we were told they would take care of it in the morning. No biggie. So Saturday morning we walked to the river, not as close as they claim. We come back and Norma the front desk lady comes yelling out the lobby door are you checking out? We say no, we have a 2 night reservation and continue towards our room. Well the keys were turned off. So when we went to Norma with our frustrations she completely ignored us and stated she would have to call hotel tonight to check. My fiance stated this is fucking ridiculous. Norma asked what did you say, and he repeated himself. So she said well then you can just check out, you have 30mins mins to pack your things and leave or I'll call the cops. I calmly made my fiance start to pack our things and called hotel tonight to confirm my refund and she called the cops anyways. I listened while she lied to management about the situation; I hope they have cameras to show the entire incident.

Cristy B.

Yelp
Upon arrival and check in my husband and I were told the hotel overbooked our reserved room type (king bed) and could not provide us with the room we reserved for our 4-night stay. However we were told a king room would be made available the next day. The next day we went to get our room for the remaining 3 nights and the front desk staff informed us that she did not have a room for us as we were promised the night prior. We were basically told that we were provided a bed and nothing would be done to provide us with the room type we reserved, and if we cancelled our remaining reservation that the full cost for 4 nights would be charged to our account due to the booking being non-refundable. No offer for a reduced room rate was ever given by the staff or the manager. We did not receive the services we reserved and were treated terribly. Upon working through the online reservation website booking.com on 2 separate calls and being on hold for nearly 1 hour, the hotel manager conceded no wrong doing or insufficient services were provided, and offered no concession for the accommodations. We had booked this stay to celebrate our wedding anniversary and were very disappointed with the hassle and treatment we received. The customer does not come first at all. We do not recommend staying at this hotel.

Edyta B.

Yelp
My husband and I stay here every time we visit San Antonio. The beds are super comfortable and you get a lot of pillows, the towels aren't the softest but that doesn't bother me. We never want to get out of the bed when we stay. We love that it's a small hotel and it's very clean. It's kind of off the beaten path but still walking distance to the river walk. We book via Hotel Tonight and the rate is always reasonable and affordable. It's cute and has modern touches, doesn't look like every other boring hotel room. Definitely recommend it!

Reese C.

Yelp
This hotel looked nice from the photos provided on the website, thought it'd be reasonable for the price but overall the hotel seemed very okay. The parking space is ridiculously small, if anything, no more than 15-18 spots and the drive way to drive thru is extremely tiny. The room service looked like it was done with half effort, bed was only half made, nothing was made neat as it is suppose to. Probably would not stay here again, also our room was placed literally right next to the lobby and requested a different room right at the moment we receive our room key but could not be change or have anything to compensate for this matter. Later we proceed to go thru the next two nights with noises of tv and people walking in and out and talking in the lobby. Also reported the smoke detector being detached when we first arrived to avoid any confusion but they never looked into this matter. Just full of flaws and sadly not worth the price at all. Aside from all that the bed was comfortable enough to sleep on.

Christine T.

Yelp
My friends and I stayed here when we came to San Antonio for an event at the AT&T center (two couples). Since the price was so great on this hotel we decided to make a weekend of it and stay two nights here instead of one night at a hotel on the river walk. The hotel was new and clean. The pictures on the website are a good representation of the hotel. We walked to and from the river walk twice (about a 10-15 minute walk) and we drove there a few times paying $10 for parking each time. There was public transportation near the hotel also. There were lots of people out walking between river walk and hotel so we were never concerned about our safety (Sat night). We found no restaurants except Ruth Chris Steakhouse ($$$$) near the hotel. There were some neighborhood-type sports bars about a block down across the street. We passed a Denny's on our way to the river walk. We did hear a few trains during the night - and the hotel is located right on the street- but it was not a busy street, so the traffic noise did not bother us at night. We never had a problem finding a parking place in the hotel parking lot (free parking!!!) The bed was not a "heavenly bed" - but it was not bad either. The only thing that we found unusual was that there was not plastic curtain behind the fabric shower curtain- so the fabric curtain got pretty wet sometimes. Also, the blackout curtains did let a little light in at the bottom. We had a nice view of the Tower of the Americas from our window. There is a cute, old decorated train at the Sunset Train Station- great photo opportunity.
