Civic Guest House Backpackers Hostel

A Hidden Gem in Townsville! I had an incredible stay at Civic Guest House. The staff were warm, friendly, and went out of their way to make me feel at home. The rooms and shared areas were clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. I especially appreciated the quiet, relaxed vibe and the strong sense of community among guests. The kitchen was spacious and well-equipped, and the free shuttle to the bus station was a huge bonus. Great location—close to shops, restaurants, and The Strand. Highly recommended for any backpacker or traveler looking for affordable, quality accommodation in Townsville!

Clean, comfy single/double rooms with fridge and aircon. Super friendly helpful staff. Large outdoor swimming pool, resort style. Everything included, kitchen, TV room, outdoor space, luggage storage. Cheap and highly recommended. Thanks for a great stay in Townsville.

We stayed 2 night with my husband and 2 kids. We had 2 x double ensuite rooms. Our stay here was excellent. It was reasonably priced, super clean, the staff friendly and knowledgable, great location, the bed was comfy and with all the lovely plants around made it feel like home. Can highly recommend.

Fantastic hostel! bedrooms and bathrooms were all clean and spacious. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Location is not as close to the strand or flinders as some other hostels but is still walking distance to everything. The pool is a huge bonus too. I can highly recommend Civic guesthouse to any traveller. Cheers!

Mum in her 80s and myself were there 2 years ago for a few days. We were there Australia Day. Fantastic entertainment in the harbour all day. Was relaxing. Cleaned everyday. Some backpackers did not clear up after themselves, we watched everyday the staff clearing the kitchen ready for people to use another day( if people cleared up after themselves the staff could be doing other things) . The rooms were small and basic but what more do you need. Its on different levels. The staff helped with bags up the stairs. The seating area was lovely. If I was going back again to Townsville both my mum would stay. The staff were helpful. It was reasonable price for a taxi.

The worst experience I have ever had in a hostel. The room was dingy and dirty. Bedsheets dirty. Toilets filthy. The ‘en-suite’ in the female dorm room was essentially part of the room with a makeshift wooden sliding panel door covering it. No privacy in the ‘en-suite’ not to mention the fact it was filthy. Mouldy shower curtain and dirty shower tray. The sink unit was also mouldy. Looked like it had never been taken care of and about 30 years old. Checked out before I could even stay 1 night because I couldn’t spend a minute longer there. Told the man at reception that I was checking out because it was too dirty and couldn’t stay and asked for a refund for the following night and he said no. Made no effort to rectify the situation or even apologise. 0/10 wouldn’t recommend to my worst enemy.

Reputation saved by excellent staffing. It's clean, very. The beds are comfy and showers hot. The cleanliness of the kitchen (by morning) was impressive but only down to the hard work of the one staff member on shift. If not for him the other guests would have left the kitchen in a disgusting state. Other guests were in fact the only real problem. The general noise started about 9pm and continued through until about 4am. Recurring sporadically. 'party noise' careless door closing whistling, laughing, shouting etc. Annoying, entitled, spoilt, self absorbed children away from mummy for the first time, displaying a total lack of respect or empathy. (The un-woke) A great shame because it's a nice place. I couldn't recommend it for a good night's sleep though. Again I repeat, excellent staff.

I’ v been living in Civic Guest for 2 weeks, is a central hostel neat to everything, rooms a clean, and people are all friendly, the best thing is the pool always open when you can enjoy after work or in a hot day!!! Very good place!! Appreciate

My partner and I had such a positive experience at the Civic Guest House. Incredibly friendly staff, who baked us cookies and let us use their facilities many hours after we were required to check out. A+ customer service! Love j
