Civic Guest House Backpackers Hostel

Good hostel, very clean. I stayed in a single room with shared bathroom. Bedroom had a fridge which was good, aircon, fan, clothing rack and a small sink. Bed was very comfortable. Shared bathroom was very clean, never had to wait in line. Shared Kitchen was well equipped and clean. Tv/games area comfortable. Plenty of shared outdoor seating. Had free coffee/tea in internet lounge area. Free wifi also. Staff went above and beyond to make my stay welcome. Other guests were friendly. I felt very safe staying here and was surprised it was quiet at night, so got a great sleep . Would stay here again in the future. Walking distance to town and beach.

Fantastic hostel! bedrooms and bathrooms were all clean and spacious. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Location is not as close to the strand or flinders as some other hostels but is still walking distance to everything. The pool is a huge bonus too. I can highly recommend Civic guesthouse to any traveller. Cheers!

Clean, comfy single/double rooms with fridge and aircon. Super friendly helpful staff. Large outdoor swimming pool, resort style. Everything included, kitchen, TV room, outdoor space, luggage storage. Cheap and highly recommended. Thanks for a great stay in Townsville.

The worst experience I have ever had in a hostel. The room was dingy and dirty. Bedsheets dirty. Toilets filthy. The ‘en-suite’ in the female dorm room was essentially part of the room with a makeshift wooden sliding panel door covering it. No privacy in the ‘en-suite’ not to mention the fact it was filthy. Mouldy shower curtain and dirty shower tray. The sink unit was also mouldy. Looked like it had never been taken care of and about 30 years old. Checked out before I could even stay 1 night because I couldn’t spend a minute longer there. Told the man at reception that I was checking out because it was too dirty and couldn’t stay and asked for a refund for the following night and he said no. Made no effort to rectify the situation or even apologise. 0/10 wouldn’t recommend to my worst enemy.

Reputation saved by excellent staffing. It's clean, very. The beds are comfy and showers hot. The cleanliness of the kitchen (by morning) was impressive but only down to the hard work of the one staff member on shift. If not for him the other guests would have left the kitchen in a disgusting state. Other guests were in fact the only real problem. The general noise started about 9pm and continued through until about 4am. Recurring sporadically. 'party noise' careless door closing whistling, laughing, shouting etc. Annoying, entitled, spoilt, self absorbed children away from mummy for the first time, displaying a total lack of respect or empathy. (The un-woke) A great shame because it's a nice place. I couldn't recommend it for a good night's sleep though. Again I repeat, excellent staff.

We stayed 2 night with my husband and 2 kids. We had 2 x double ensuite rooms. Our stay here was excellent. It was reasonably priced, super clean, the staff friendly and knowledgable, great location, the bed was comfy and with all the lovely plants around made it feel like home. Can highly recommend.

Paid a deposit through Hostelworld, they cancelled my booking 2 hours before arrival 👎🏼 Response: Do not book here if you need a safe place to stay! The non-refundable deposit I paid should secure my booking. Why take a reservation if you can't keep my reservation? I was planning on paying with my Australia credit card on arrival, because Hostelworld terms are: pay at property on arrival. Lucky I have a friend in Townsville, imagine you did this to traveler who has nowhere to stay. You have disregarded your duty of care to your patrons. You should be ashamed.

Good pricing, very friendly staff and convenient location. Clean facilities and bathrooms, rooms/kitchen area can get a bit messy from other guests. Would recomend for a short stay in TSV : )

My partner and I had such a positive experience at the Civic Guest House. Incredibly friendly staff, who baked us cookies and let us use their facilities many hours after we were required to check out. A+ customer service! Love j
