Civic Hotel, Autograph Collection (Surrey, British Columbia) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Surrey, British Columbia, a city in the Vancouver metro area, is just big enough to have a proper downtown of its own, and that’s where you’ll find the Civic Hotel, one of just a few skyscrapers in town, and in fact the tallest building in Surrey — which means unparalleled views of the greater Vancouver area and its mountainous surroundings. The rooms are stylish, crisp and somewhat minimalist, and as a member of Marriott’s Autograph Collection the Civic features up-to-date comforts and professional service. Dominion Bar & Kitchen is an introduction to New Canadian cuisine, while Prado Cafe is the sunny ground-floor coffee shop." - Tablet Hotels

Wonderful Stay at the Civic Hotel! My wife and I recently stayed at the Civic Hotel using a certificate we were given, and we had a fantastic experience from start to finish. The staff were incredibly friendly, accommodating, and understanding throughout our visit. Check-in was quick and efficient, and we appreciated the availability of secured underground parking at a very reasonable preferred rate. Our suite was clean and beautifully appointed—no cooking facilities in our particular unit, but it featured a stunning view, a comfy bed, bar fridge, safe, and all the usual amenities. We also took advantage of the pool and hot tub, which were a great bonus. Check-out was just as smooth and painless as check-in. The staff really stood out and helped make our stay memorable. Keep up the great service! We’d love to stay here again sometime—highly recommended!

Came for 5 nights because my dog needed to go to the vet specialist at Boundary Bay. The hotel is nice, the rooms are very clean, but what made our stay was the exceptional staff. In particular, every single one of the servers (shoutout to Breanna!) at the Dominion restaurant went above and beyond to make us feel special and welcome. The food is also spectacular (shoutout to Manny, who is a magician in the kitchen…vegetarian Tibetan dumplings are ADDICTIVE and everything else we tried was so delicious). The pool was also warm and clean and my teen son loved the gym amenities.

Bonnie at the front desk is a rockstar that always meets us with a smile. I have been to a lot of Marriott’s but the Civic has customer Service at another level. I usually travel for work but this time had a personal trip with some complicated requests and Bonnie had my questions answered before I asked them. I will only stay at the Civic when in the area. The hotel is almost too nice for the area. Very impressed with the amenities and the rooms. The roof top pool is gorgeous. The customer service is what takes it above and beyond though. Thank you.

Stayed here in mid June for 2 nights as a Titanium Elite member. Hotel is quite nice and was very clean. Chad at check-in was exceptional and really made a great first impression when checking in. Upgraded to a corner room on high floor. Room was nice but I found it to be a bit small. No valet parking available which would really elevate this hotel as the parking garage is kind of confusing to navigate. Breakfast included as part of elite benefits was a buffet at Dominion, the restaurant at the hotel. Breakfast was a bit underwhelming, but I had dinner there both nights and thought it was great. Having a good dinner spot within the hotel is especially great here as the surrounding area is kind of rough and does not offer much. Overall, if I had to come to Surrey I would absolutely stay here again.

We had such a wonderful stay at the Civic Hotel. The room was beautiful, super clean, and the view from our window was just amazing, especially at night. Everything about the place felt classy and comfortable. The room service was quick, friendly, and honestly made the experience even better. The best part is that the hotel is right next to the metro station, which made getting around super easy. If you’re visiting Surrey or nearby Vancouver, this hotel is totally worth it.

We’ve stayed at the Civic Hotel several times for business, and while there’s a lot to appreciate, some aspects have us reconsidering future stays.||The rooms are consistently clean and well-kept, though they tend to run small, with limited closet space—a bit of a challenge for longer work trips. One unusual design feature: the coffee machine is placed directly across from the toilet, which feels out of place in an otherwise upscale room.||Despite holding Titanium Elite status with Marriott, we haven’t received any upgrades on recent visits, which has been disappointing, especially given the frequency of our business travel. This lack of recognition may have us looking at alternative options going forward.||On the positive side, the included breakfast is excellent, with a wide selection and good quality. The location is ideal, offering easy access to SkyTrain and other transit options, and the staff are always responsive and professional.

We had a great stay at this hotel! The rooms were spacious and the beds were incredibly comfortable and luxurious—perfect for a relaxing night’s sleep. The location was also very convenient, just outside the Surrey Central train station, making it easy to get around. Would definitely recommend for both comfort and accessibility.

Google
The rooms are small, The service is top-notch. The pool is nice. The hotel is very close to the train station, which is very convenient-especially if you wanna visit downtown Vancouver. My complaint is about the pool deck. You definitely hear the train every couple of minutes. There was also a nonstop construction project the whole time so it wasn’t very peaceful. Overall, it was a great place!

Yelp
It's right next to the light rail which is awesome. However, to get into downtown Vancouver, you have to transfer to a bus. They spent extra time making my room hypoallergenic so we dropped off our luggage to check in at 3 pm and went to check out the small Kpop festival across the street. This hotel is in Surrey which has a huge population of Indians so I was able to find a chai place for excellent chai in less than a mile away. Also there's the SFU campus that is attached to a mall nearby which has the Neptune restaurant. It's in a convenient location. Pool was small though and the hot tub was only at 80f.

Yelp
This place earns their 4 star hotel level. From the check in process, the amenities, coffee shop at the lobby, incredible restaurant for dining, everything about this place is just perfect. The pool is really nice too

Yelp
Service is amazing, close to station and. Lose to Tim Hortons. Location is a bit sketchy.

Yelp
The hotel itself is decent, but for the price paid the value just wasn't there. Views from the room were pretty cool at night but not so much in the cold light of day. The room was clean and the bed (except for the huge hard pillows) was comfortable. We expected more from the breakfast buffet as it was basic/standard Marriott fare and nothing too special. Probably won't stay here again.

Yelp
Honestly, I hardly ever write reviews for hotels - you generally know what you're looking for and you get what you pay for. I grew up staying in cheap hotels and as I've gotten older (and married), started to go to nicer spots. Usually it's exactly what I expect. However, this hotel just blew us out of the water. Anytime we asked for toiletries we forgot to pack or water or more coffee pods, everything came up within minutes. Service here was stellar and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would definitely return!

Yelp
Honestly the rooms were meh at best but the breakfast (if you are a Marriott Rewards member) was probably the best "free" hotel breakfast I've had in the Western hemisphere. Checked into this hotel that was right next to Surrey's Central Library which was honestly great in case you ever get bored. The room itself is not very big and is quite dark actually. However, I did appreciate the bathroom which was modern and clean. The best thing in this hotel, however, is most definitely the "free" breakfast. I feel like usually hotels in the US and Canada just give you mediocre continental breakfast and call it a day. Even if you go to hotel clubs/lounge that is supposed to be for elite members, the food is still quite bad. Not the Civic Hotel... the breakfast is amazing! Here's some of my favorite foods at the breakfast. - Roasted Tomato - They didn't have this every day I was there but this was actually amazing. Roasting the tomato concentrated all of the flavors and became extremely juicy yet flavorful with all the seasoning on top. - Sourdough Bread - They make their own bread that you can cut by yourself and it was honestly one of the best breads I've had in US/Canada, even when compared to a bakery. The bread on the outside was extremely crispy and the inside was very fluffy. Especially with their not so sweet homemade cream cheese, this bread was off the charts and I wanted to take it home. - I really appreciate the variety they had in their breakfast buffet from standard breakfast items such as scrambled eggs to fruit smoothies to homemade jams. I appreciate the attention to detail here which made waking up and eating such a fun activity. Overall, my stay was okay but was made better by the breakfast. If you're not a Rewards member or wouldn't be able to eat their free breakfast maybe don't stay here, but if you are it is definitely worth the experience.

Yelp
We have enjoyed our 3 night stay here. Our first night we didn't eat dinner and our last meal was a 1pm lunch. They do not have a store here and the vending machine items are limited, but we got 7 goodies/drinks to share. Unfortunately the vending machine charged us for Ruffles, but didn't give them to us. I went to front desk the next day and asked about it and she actually gave us a water, nuts, and chocolate :-) Our 3rd day I needed to exchange our towels, but missed room service so I called down to desk asking if I could get 2 sets from them and she offered to run them to our room. They were so fast! Our room is beautiful even if the views are better on another corner. The corner units are the best bec you get 2 walls of windows! I love windows! The best seat in the house is the toilet haha. Even though the rooms are tight and not very roomy, it's perfect to us bec you're just sleeping here.

Yelp
Very disappointed. Room view was horrible....But ok, not a big deal. We called in advance about room type & view but we will Forgive But the SERVICE was not good. The front desk was actually really rude and made me feel very uncomfortable. I never ever complain about people, I understand things can't always go our way but man oh man there was unnecessary demeaning comments and we got told a straight up lie. I did not argue or respond back. I stared at employee in disbelief and walked away after saying thank you to her. A younger gentlemen was the first at front desk to try and help and he just straight up lied to us about a room change and then left his shift without a care. But the attitude of second front desk was uncalled for. If nothing can be done to help us...say so and it's ok...there was no need to make us feel like roaches. Idk. The air vent in bathroom is also dirty....I'm allergic to dust. And I was wondering why I was so itchy...don't want to over do a negative review but things are what they are. Staying here for a couple nights(5 total) and might just switch out. For the price of +$300usd a night.Air vent & view to your own judgement. Currently here and for a wedding. So don't want to Ps: Marriott elite member. First time I've been disappointed by Marriott :( I mean long time customer....and all over the world. What's going on? Update: after 5 nights! Front desk is rudest I've experienced...ever. And I have traveled all over. Even upon checkout the guy didn't make eye contact and kept repeating nonsense info about our stay, ex: Expedia booking...? Mind you we did American Express! Over 250K points lol even iffffff we did book Expedia. Damn...they make you feel low life. In general their Attitude needs realignment. Maybe Disney customer service program? lol The ONLY thing worth it about this hotel is the restaurant Dominion. GREAT service! Their restaurant manager should manage hotel. Thank you dominion!

Yelp
Recently stayed here post-holiday party and I was impressed with the look of the room. While small, it was very neatly decorated and filled with modern amenities. Cool features include a built-in chaise type seating for a comfortable spot to sit and get a bit of work done. The Illy Espresso machine is a handy addition and there is a giant TV with Chromecast, so that you can stream your favourite movies/shows from Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, etc. All in all, it's a nice space to stay in Surrey that I would recommend to those that don't need to stay in Vancouver when visiting the area. However, I must share a word of caution for guests that might not be too comfortable with each other. The room has a wall-like divider thing separating the bed from the bathroom creating *some* privacy. It's a very open concept with only the toilet behind a door. This is a "feature" becoming quite popular in modern hotel room designs. However, that toilet space is like an echo chamber and amplifies every sound. EVERY SOUND. So pee/poo accordingly. :)

Yelp
Never been to the hotel, but their restaurant bar and the lobby sucks balls. I live in the adjacent high-rise. And I wish the restaurant in the lobby was good.

Yelp
On a weekend trip to Vancouver, we stayed at the Civic Hotel in Surrey, which is ~30-40 minutes outside of downtown Vancouver. Overall, it was a solid 4 / 5 as it was a comfortable stay with great service and a view. -- Room -- I booked the City King Room for ~144 CAD, which is ~109 USD, and luckily as a Marriott Gold Elite was upgraded to the Corner King Room, which was really nice. The room had a great view, comfortable bed, and a TV. As a Gold Elite, they also provided 2 complimentary water bottles. -- Parking -- Parking was 13 CAD (9.86 USD) with in and out access. -- Breakfast -- As a Gold Elite, a complimentary voucher was provided for breakfast although if you want hot food it's an extra 3 CAD, which would've been worth it if we weren't already planning to eat out.

Yelp
Pretty nice building, relatively convenient location in terms of transit. Staff are helpful and seem to do the best they can. Rooms are small but make pretty good use of space. Nicely finished rooms innovatively desiged, great in room coffee product. But thats kinda it for positives from my perspective. An essential piece to a comfortable stay for me is the ability to regulate the temperature in my room, something which i could not accomplish here. I asked the staff to look into it, not sure if they actually did, but nothing changed. I spent the evenings bundled up in the room to stay warm, and when the sun streamed in it was sometimes too hot. The staff did offer a space heater and extra blankets, I cant fault their efforts, but for a four star hotel, frankly even a 1 star hotel this really isnt acceptable to me. The instructions posted above the thermostat suggest to me that this is not a new issue, and even following them exactly I was unable to get any warm air out of the vent or significantly cool air when it was warm, for the duration of my 5 night stay. I also found the attention to detail from the housekeeping staff lacking, they neglected to restock my coffee creamer, left my conditioner dispenser empty despite a friendly note asking them to restock it, and replaced my coffee cup with one that was very dirty. Some of the public areas too for instance the elevators could do with more regular cleaning. On top of all of that this hotel is in or very near Wally.. and just a brief walk around the neighborhood will make that abundantly clear. The views are pretty nice and the area is improving, they are doing a lot right at this hotel, but having stayed at a dozen other similarly priced hotels in the lower mainland I simply cannot recommend this one, there are much better places to stay.

Yelp
I found a gold chain and called security to let them know and the indian security men treated me as though I was going to keep it. They called me 10pm at night to return it while I was at work, questions asked were "where is the chain, which apartment you live in, we need to pick up chain ". I wasn't going to write anything But the India staff are unprofessional and treated me as though I stole it. Civic hotel it's time for you to hire people who can act more professional and civilized. Plus I have more experience items than that chain that I found. It's just sad that someone is missing the item and may not get it back. Civic Hotel security sucks! Deserve minus for points.

Yelp
Civic Hotel is an elegant contemporary hotel situated between a sketchy but semi updated previous back street and a shiny new city hall, library & concrete water park. Ironic. Our room 611 had a gorgeous 55" Samsung suhd led smart tv ( which died on the fourth day in due to a pipe bursting on the 18th floor oy! ) but had no built in tv guide? Civic hotel offers free hbo,and a few movie channels as well. The in-room coffee/espresso machine was decent once you realized that u need to do exactly the opposite of the machines indicators for success. If u brew a coffee pod then set the machine on the illuminated espresso indicator and vice versa. Our phone was intermittent as well, seems 611 is electronically cursed. Our room was a 'city view' that was a sad noisy view of the many homeless, ill and addicted that reside either in or around the immediate area. The upside of this area is that it has huge potential to grow and become vibrant and safe. For example we witnessed the juxtaposition of dangerous and safe while watching various youth groups rehearsing athletic dance routines in the concrete park/courtyard out front of the hotel at sunset, it was entertaining and refreshing to c kids interfacing and enjoying group activities that were truly interacting in a healthy organic human fashion. This bodes well for the next gen for whom this ever evolving community is being tailored to. I digress, so do request a north or west view if available to enjoy a positive view. As a 5 star hotel, Civic Hotel lacks many standard ameneties associated with a 3 star hotel such as a,microwave, mini fridge ,air conditioning or ventilation in the bathroom. Our noisy room was apparently inspected prior to our visit but had obvious signs that it in fact was either not inspected or very haphazardly inspected as evident by many thick black long hairs on the inside of my robe, the bathroom floors also had thick black long hairs as well...eww. The espresso cups still had stains inside. Another eww! I expect this from a lesser facility but not a 5 star hotel after specifically being told verbatim ' Your room is being inspected by the manager so we can hopefully check you in soon.' We in fact w8ed for nothing. We were offered a comp for daily breky buffet at 'Dominion' so that was a gr8 save from the manager and def eased the annoyance of a dirty room and sloppy check in.Tyvm to the manager! It was nice to be able to check in early at 1pm as this alleviated undue stress to our pussies who w8ed ever so patiently in their carriers in the lobby. We were woken up daily at 8am by the loud sounds of drills and construction that was either directly above us or below us, very annoying when trying to sleep at 8am.This did eventually cease after 4 annoying noisy episodes. Absolutely the cleanest Hotel carpets ever as my white socks stayed ultra clean even after a day in the room, usually we have hotel slippers but no need here as the carpets r new and very clean.Gorgeously appointed hotel showcasing rustic pacific coast architecture with a thoroughly modern feel with clean lines and warm wood throughout. Civic is def staffed by ppl offering elite customer service. Never once did we ever feel we were in the staffs way,...superb customer service standards demonstrated by the entire hotel team from front desk to Manager.Big shout out to our daily cleaning lady as she was so accommodating to our 5 star pussies travelling with us.Hazel & Lucy appreciate it! Gorgeous outdoor lap pool and clean jacuzzi tub too! Luxurious sturdy deck furniture with adjustable loungers, chairs and side tables. Plush towels on deck, changerooms with free secure lockers, private showers with quality shampoo & conditioner.Changeroom facilities need to be cleaned at least once a day as my lint from monday was still on the floor on tuesday. js. 5 star $269/night. Overall, clean, newish & well managed, 5 star hotel with eager attentive staff. I like their 'can do' 5 star service and u will too. If ur gonna go 5 star, this may b 4 u if u get a room high up with a western exposure. Add ac,mini-fridges and a microwave to all rooms and this place would be complete. Very tailored to the business demographic. Excellent Restaurant, do experience Dominion restuarant especially for happy hour. ( c full review of Dominion Kitchen + Pub ) Love, love, love the room stewardess, she was warm, genuine and worked so very hard. This lady digs her gig and it shines thru and thru. Super secure building too.Love the front open courtyard.Do b mindful on the pool deck and u will hear thr gentle chime of nells lulling u into a calm state of comfort.Nice. Yelp
This Marriott hotel is about a year old, but still felt brand new. All built with a modern flare. Staff were friendly & very helpful! Rooms are clean and quite comfortable! Beds are firm and have been made with cotton sheets & fluffy comforters. Towels in the bathroom are thick and fluffy. Our room was equipped with an Illy-branded espresso machine. Lovely! We were greeted in our room with a welcome note from the general manager & some snacks. Nice touch! Each room has large window panes. There is also a large pane window in the bathroom. Lovely views! The pane windows all have draw-down shade. Blackout curtains are provided for the window in the room but not in bathroom. Our room was East-facing and the sun was lighting up our room before 5am even with the room's blackout curtains closed. Sun was shining strong through the shaded bathroom pane window. This also caused the entire room to get stuffy & warm. The air conditioner is quite weak & therefore, our room was provided with a floor fan. Thank goodness, it is still in the early summer season when it still is not too warm! Also, outside signage is poor for parking directions. It is not clear where to park your car until we ask the front desk when we first arrived. We had circled the block twice before asking for help. Overall, hospitality was wonderful at this clean & comfortable hotel. I knocked off a star for the weak air conditioner, no blackout curtain for all the large pane windows & for the poor signage outside for parking directions.

Yelp
What a shame. Such a beautiful space and hotel, but filled with power hungry "security" guards. My friend and I are visiting from out of the country and have frequented the cafe while staying on the property and we we're harassed to leave. We were specifically sitting in the Prado Cafe and were asked to move after purchasing two coffees and two pastries. We have been staying here & also are paying customers, but we're still heckled by two employees of the hotel. We also witnessed them removing another paying customer who was diligently getting her work done. Very disappointing. We will not be returning. We will also be reporting the company to a few different services because this type of discrimination & customer service is not acceptable. Do not come here!

Yelp
Good points; garage parking, clean, good views, window can open a few inches Bad points; you won't be able to enter this easily at night if you've never been here - go to the library garage entrance and park in the hotel check in then go down to park for the night. There's no directions about this on their website. Air conditioner in the room didn't seem to work- it was fine for March but they better fix it for summer because it was already pretty warm when the sun hit the building. "Shoe polish" should not be placed next to shampoo in the bathroom. People not able to read English might think it's a bathroom cream or something. It was offputting to see even with noticing it before thinking it's some kind of hipster name for lotion. Overall would be back next time I'm in the area.

Yelp
First time staying at this hotel. Very pleased we were. Super friendly staff. Very modern and stylish rooms with one touch lighting in the mirror in the bathrooms. My kids just loved that! Not a whole lot to complain about except the rooms do get a bit stuffy with no option of temperature control in the room. Very central location, close to many restaurants, shops, mall and skytrain. Will definitely come back again when in town.

Yelp
Great restaurant and bar. Staff is super friendly, while service is prompt. Nice options on the menu, and the bar has comfortable seats to watch a game. Park underground, and take the elevator to the lobby.

Yelp
***WONDERFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE! Thank you Hitin for arranging for a perfect stay, you were professional and personable! Also, a thank you to Gourav who went above and beyond in providing a recipe from the delicious breakfast AND a recommendation for a local restaurant (with a map!). We have been Marriott members for over 25 years and have never seen such amazing service! ***

Yelp
The hotel is very stylish inside and out. The hallways reminded me of a "mad men" office scene, with the mid century vibe and beautiful wood detailing. The fourth floor has a big workout room and a awesome rooftop heated lap pool and hot tub, overlooking a plaza below between a modern library and the Surrey city hall. Apparently "The Good Doctor" series is filmed at City Hall, so we got to see some filming happen outside in the plaza while we were there. The room itself was on the smaller side, with huge windows on the east. The "queen" beds seemed more like doubles. The illy coffee maker and coffee accoutrements took up a large portion of the desk. The bathroom has an etched glass "barn" style sliding door that I really wish hotels would stop using as it provides very little privacy between the room and the bathroom. We were highly entertained by watching the chaotic parking at the bustling strip mall of Asian eateries 15 floors below and the interesting characters walking by to get to the transit center just south of the hotel. The area is a highly diverse mix of students, commuting workers, homeless, and professionals. A busy mall is on the other side of the transit center. The Dominion restaurant on the main floor is very good and the service was excellent. The in room dining option was far less successful for us than eating in the restaurant and ordering meals for takeaway. The price was much more reasonable than the downtown Vancouver hotels the weekend we were there. Overall, a nice place to stay. If you go, make sure to request a room on the west side, as ours facing the east was quite bright early on the sunny days (but fine on the cloudy).

Yelp
Beautiful hotel and nice, professional staff. I wi be gracious and say that though this hotel is not perfect they have only opened a year ago and you can tell they are trying their best to make everyone feel comfy in spite of many things they are impriving on. So kudos for the efforts. Love everything and the two negative critic I have are no working elevator for the parking, tho they were kind enough to park the car valet for regular parking fee and also you cannot control the room temp (work in progress for them) but other than those things excellent place and for our first time in BC so glad we stayed here :) not to mention the convenience of the location with the sky train across the street was unbeatable!

Yelp
This is a brand new hotel with lots going for it. This was my second stay here in 2 months. The first time around I had really enjoyed everything as my room, the staff, the cleanliness, and overall environment was great. Hamed and Banaan were two of the most helpful people! Even the restaurant/bar downstairs (Dominion) actually has great tasting food and solid drinks. Overall I am a happy camper here but have knocked one star off as my room's AC was not working and took way more effort than I needed to give to get it addressed. Yes I'm only taking one star off because things happen. All in all, great experience, great staff, and a fun hotel!

Jaelynn M.

Yelp
they said the pool was close, but for three hours, went past and no one went in the pool we could've had our time in there but they said it was taken but we could see no one was there

Victoria R.

Yelp
This was a single standing structure that looked to be the only building in town. The interior and decoration were nice. It was the confusing parking - the guard at the door gave us questionable directions as to where to park. He didn't even mention the assigned spots for the hotel. We had to move our car after arriving because we parked in the wrong spot. We had trouble working the elevator. We found a hair in the shower and there wasn't any TV guide. The tv also only had 50 channels and no way to access Netflix or Hulu or anything. It also was pretty far from Vancouver although it was advertised as though it was close.

Dustin M.

Yelp
Sky train sounds like it's in your room. The ceiling to floor glass looks great but they went cheap on construction and there is zero noise buffer. Nothing I would expect from a Marriot/Starwood property. Terrible.....
