19 Best Spots for Aperitivo in Rome

"Sleek and sexy even by Roman wine bar standards, Civico 4 fits right in in buzzy Monti, where its black and white checkered tiles and tiny, mahogany bistro tables have helped make it something of an institution. Expect an all-Italian crowd who know their wines, and expect to get cozy with them: these tables are close. There's a strong selection of bottles from Italy, plus a nice range from elsewhere in the world, especially Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. From 6pm until 9pm the place really comes alive, and it's due in no small part to the veritable smorgasbord they roll out." - Maresa Manara

One of the best restaurants I’ve been to here in Italy. Amazing food, excellent service. Ignore the negative comments and the low rating—it’s probably from people who tried to use the bathroom without being customers and got denied.

Good vibe for evening drinks, plenty of outside seating. The Aperitivo was tasty and big enough to share between two people. The staff were attentive and easy to get their attention for service.

Great place we will go to again. The staff are lovely and the student waiter was amazing. He was helpful, fun, good tips of the restaurant food. He helped us choose so well. Perfecto. Great to eat or just chill with a drink and people watch away from the hecticness down the street. The staff looked like they were having fun while obviously working hard, the heat for them is alot.

Great location on a quiet piazza. We ordered coffee and juices (2.5 for espresso), expensive but normal price in touristy areas. Service was nice and friendly, but slow and forgetful, despite the fact that only few tables were occupied. Would not return.

Yesterday, we tried to sit here with my friend and we came again because we liked it. However, this time the service quality was very bad. Yesterday, there was no problem in smoking a cigar, today they said that since we did not order an appetizer plate, it was a problem and I could not smoke a cigar "but in a very rude way". In short, when they cannot get much money from you, they make a problem out of everything

The coffee here is great! Really flavorful. We didn’t try the food, so can’t speak to that, but the coffee alone is worth a visit.

Ordered two drinks, one was wrongly prepared. We ordered one Pinsa with dried tomato and friarielli, the tomatoes were cooked on the dish, not dried. The table was dirty when we were seared and it was left dirty by the staff. It's recommended only by the view of the square. You can find better places elsewhere

Google
Great location in Cavour, unfortunately the service was pretty bad. Rude server, rude cashier (not sure if he was the owner, but most restaurant owners I’ve met in Italy have been so welcoming and polite!there is always an exception.) , and the pasta was over cooked, tasted like it was microwaved, not fresh at all, and the sauce was very simple, lacking tons of flavor. They do not have salads on their menu and not many options for antipasti. I would definitely not recommend

Yelp
The food was very tasty and different. Orders the special of the day of gnocchi with artichokes and pork cheek and enjoyed it. A little more pricey but we got stuck in the rain so made the best of it.

Yelp
We started bar hopping and saw a lot of people sitting outside, so we decided to stop by. Honestly, the experience was mediocre. The staff, drinks and food could improve. I would suggest going somewhere else.

Yelp
For the prices, really not too shabby. We didn't want to see anymore pasta /pizza and didn't want fork an arm and leg over for mediocre touristy food again -- wouldn't make my way out to come here but if you're in the area, this place is pretty solid. Menu here changes daily, and there's a variety of options: €50 /2 people for the following: - beer, water, bread - smoked salmon (YAY): really good smoked salmon, served with raw zucchini and carrots - salad with tuna (yay-ish): every euro country serves canned tuna lol so don't expect fresh seared tuna. Mozzarella was good. Large portion of salad - special: mushroom risotto (ok): wasn't piping hot or super thick, but was decent - special: rolled chicken (ok): rolled chicken breast baked with some sort of bread filling type thing TLDR: Overall this place is a lot less touristy than surrounding joints, and has a VERyyy reasonable price point. Service was pretty friendly, though not the fastest

Yelp
Stopped here for a drink. Asked if an additional party could join us. Girl said only 1 table regardless of party size. If we're all wanting to pay for drinks that just seems rude.

Yelp
The food and service were great! Primer piatti is a little small as a main, you should ask for secondi as well. Ambience is cool and the good taste is absolutely great!

Yelp
Stopped here for a drink and an appetizer. This place did not disappoint. 12 euros for a drink and a plate of small finer food appetizers (snack tray). Great service and strong drinks.

Yelp
Avoid this place. Pasta was microwaved, not cooked Al dente. Rude waiter and cashier, they don't have salads in their menu. Their spritz was bad. Don't waste your money here. Overall, disgusting experience.

Yelp
We discovered Civico 4 on our second day in Rome after visiting the Colosseum and surrounding area's. The menu was completely in Italian, it was not in any of our tourist books, and the purveyor was immediately welcoming when we walked in to check out the menu. To us that was meeting our three main requirements of finding random spots in foreign countries so we had to take a closer look. The owner was so excited about his beautiful display of freshly roasted vegetables that we had to take a seat and try it out. We let him lead us along our meal and it ended up being absolutely perfect. The joint was empty when we arrived but was filled with local Italians when we left and we knew why - because of the amazing service and quality of food. We started out with a plate of veggies, roasted peppers, eggplant, zucchini, and artichoke along with some freshly baked bread and local olive oil. He then brought out this beautiful plate of buffalo mozzarella, prosciutto and tomato. Talk about Combo-Bite heaven here, I essentially made twenty different mini bite sandwiches with all of the different ingredients. For the finale, Mushroom Ravioli with a delicate butter sauce with more mushrooms then butter. Paired with a lovely Rose and Italian Beer, we could not ask for more.

Yelp
Had an Aperol spritz here, so I can't comment on the food. However we were sitting close to the bar so we were able to oogle at the food coming out. It's located on a corner, so great to people watch. We came across this place after touring the Colosseum, headed back into the main city. The bathroom is clean. Staff is friendly.

Yelp
When we politely said that we were disappointed by our meal and uncomfortable paying the full overpriced bill for a bit of packet smoked salmon on-top of raw celery (meal was written as salmon carpaccio hah), cold microwaved overcooked pasta and extra charges for stale sliced sandwich bread the manager went absolutely nuts. He physically harassed me, (25 year old woman) and screamed in my face pretending to call the police. If they had apologised and been polite I would have been happy to pay the bill. I eventually handed over my card after he physically grabbed me again and pushed me toward the counter to see "how I'd eaten some of the food so how dare I complain". He scrunched up the bill and hid the card machine so I couldn't see the charge. Horrible horrible experience, I was really scared and so shocked that someone could physically and verbally assault someone like this. His waitress seemed scared of him and the chef was also a rude aggressive man. I'm sure you could have a nice time here if you simply ordered a glass of wine, but don't dare complain!!!

Yelp
Came here to try the tea and Asked to use the wifi . Owner deliberately turned it off about 5mins into my browsing . As a place that advertises it has WiFi I can't use it? Have signs then -be clear about the cafe environment you want. It was just rude and passive aggressive

Yelp
Very bad experience beware of this place. Very bad quality products. Owner very mean. Turned wifi off after five minutes while I was drinking my coffee likely to make me go away since he was expecting me to order more? Unbelievable. Avoid it. I see he applied his behavior before based on other reviews as below...

Yelp
I don't actually know why I like this place so much but I do. Probably the awesome relaxed, not check-ed cloth interiors. But mainly because of the extensive booze list. I wouldn't necessarily recommend for food but i would definitely for wine and beer. They also have a happy hour which doesn't get you all that much off but worth checking out. If you can, grab the window seat for the ultimate drinking/people watch session. Not the best service but if you get a bottle of wine then there is no need to be interrupted. Can get a free glass of water (gasp!)! Yes you heard me. Free water. Ask for tap. Has wifi.

Yelp
Really enjoyed this place! Tortellini was excellent as well as the roasted vegetable plate! Luckily, our tour guide through a private company ordered for us/helped translate the specials. Good price for a good meal. The espresso was also delicious! Great spot for lunch and pretty close to the Roman forum.

Yelp
OVER PRICED DANGEROUS TOURIST TRAP. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. my sister and i attempted to have lunch here, we ordered "salmon carpacchio" which was just smoked salmon on raw carrot, and "fettuccine ragout" which tasted like microwave leggos pasta sauce or tinned spaghetti. We had a bite or each to test if we were on the same page of how gross it was, called the waitress and said "could we get the bill, we are uncomfortable with finishing our meals they we're inedible". The waitress spoke to the "chef" and owner then returned saying "you ate the meal you have to pay, we've never had a complaint before" (check the reviews for this place, they are either awful or lies from gullible tourists). We responded "we're uncomfortable paying for such a disappointing meal, can we speak to the manager". As my sister approached, the manager VIOLENTLY GRABBED her and pulled her towards our "finished" plates of food. Yelling at us saying we have to pay, attempted to grab our credit card from our hands.. grabbed my sister again and both the chef and manager yelled at us constantly (in front of a full restaurant - incredibly defensive) I started crying when the manager picked up the phone and called the police... I said "are you really calling the police over pasta" they said "in italy that is what we do." Somehow I don't think physically and verbally assaulting two young women in your restaurant is a very "Italian way" to handle things. To add insult to injury he hid the card machine when we eventually had to pay 45+ euro (I couldn't see what he input so I'll have to wait and check my balance...) For nothung;! We left SCARED, HUNGRY AND DISAPPOINTED. (Ate Burger King on the way home, 10/10 for the burger and fries. )

Yelp
Loved Happy Hour here!!! Visiting as tourists from USA. There were lots of locals. We enjoyed that day's appetizer plate. It was a meal!!!! Have a look at the desserts too. They brought a huge tray of mini desserts. They were incredible. A lovely place to stop if touring in the area of the Coliseum.
