"Slide into a sexy booth or black-velvet armchair at this award-winning French restaurant on happening Oxford Street and admire the grand chandeliers, antique flower pots, oversized clock display, and fabulous French staff. Founded by the famous French drag queen and chef Claire de Lune, who also started Sydney’s acclaimed El’Circo drag show, Claire’s Kitchen is a gathering place for theatre stars, drag pioneers, politicians, and celebrities. The food is traditional-with-a-twist (tartare, confit, soufflé, parfait), the wines are all French, and the service is friendly and professional. The moody mezzanine is where the fun really happens, especially during Wednesday night cabaret dinner shows, so head there for a seat, and be sure to save room for the dessert trolley. The restaurant also holds special events and cooking classes throughout the year."

We had an amazing time there for my partner's birthday. A lovely service , a beautiful atmosphere and we had only delicious food from started to dessert. A special mention to the details for the dessert. We will recommend this place and we will definitely be back . 10/10

Last night, We dined at a Claire’s Kitchen at Le Salon and was thoroughly impressed. The atmosphere exuded sophistication, setting the perfect tone for a delightful evening. The service was nothing short of brilliant—attentive, accommodating, and professional. The scallop dish was an absolute highlight; a must-try for anyone visiting this establishment. Moreover, their steak surpassed my expectations, ranking among the best I’ve ever tasted. Not only was it exceptionally flavorful, but the portion size was generous, leaving me feeling wholly satisfied. the set menu was a decision I didn’t regret. The combination of both quality and quantity in their offerings made it a truly fulfilling dining experience. Overall, Claire’s Kitchen at Le salon is a fantastic place that truly live up to the rating.

Another visit for the duck pie. It's the only thing I want 😁. The food is fabulous, they do amazing cocktails. The staff are friendly. If there is a show upstairs it can get noisy but everything else is fantastic.

Update December 2023 Went upstairs to show and set menu. Awesome experience with great timing between the food and show. A mix of tables couples, fours and eights. Highly recommend this. Lovely cocktails. ❤️ French French and French Set in the trendy suburb of Surry Hills on Oxford street this restaurant is in a class of its own. Good layout with booths for 6, romantic tables for two or make it four. Food excellent with service to match. Great cocktails and good wine list. It also offers some nights with entertainment so check out the calendar. We went Christmas Eve and it’s next level the way the restaurant was decorated and the resident singer awesome! You won’t hear this travel guide rave on but seriously this restaurant is worth a visit you will not be disappointed. Bathrooms very good, walk from Museum Station Love from your local travel guide- M❤️.

Great place for birthday celebration! Especially thank Joshen (hopefully I spelled the name correct) the restaurant manager. He is very humorous and considerate. He sent nice black chocolates as gifts to us :) Also excellent atmosphere, decoration and thoughtful service. This French restaurant is the best that I’ve ever tried in Sydney and impressed me a lot!

We recently held an event upstairs at the Salon at Claire's, and it could not have been more perfect. At every stage of the planning Marc and the team went above and beyond to make things easy for us and make sure our night was beautiful. The whole restaurant is beautiful, and the team helped us set up our own flowers and decorations. The salon upstairs really does feel like a beautiful and warm French bar, your own little home for the evening with a truly intimate ambience. The food was all delicious, and came out quickly - very impressive for a group of 31 people. The centrepiece was the croquembouche, which was beautiful and tasted as good as it looked. There were plenty of options, and plenty for our guests with dietary requirements - including things we'd overlooked like desserts. All our guests raved about the food over the next few days. On the night, Marc and the staff made all our guests feel welcome and helped us run all the formalities - far more service than we expected, and very very much appreciated. Everyone at Claire's was kind, friendly, warm, and funny, and made all of us feel so at home. It was one of the happiest nights of our life, and Claire's made it so easy and beautiful for us.

Marcus Rivera's "Music is Everything" at Claire's kitchen at Le salon was an awe inspiring evening with music of Matt Monroe by Marcus Rivera and the amazing French Cuisine. For me, the star of the Cabaret Menu (the Entree 'Les Entrées') is the 'Dome de Salmon Fumé GF' or Smokes Salmon Dome, with Potato and Egg salad, avocado and red pepper coulis...absolutely soft and very tasty! Also, the 'Parfait de Foie Canard GF' or Duck Liver Parfait with French Baguette Melba Toast, Cornichons and Grape chutney....as well as the 'Noix de Saint-Jacques Au Potiron GF' or Roasted Scallops with Pumpkin Sabayon, Micro Herbs and Crispy Leeks...were simply delicious! For the main course, the 'Poitrine de Porc Aux Florentie GF' or Pork Belly with Puy Lentils and Beetroot glace was divine! I also loved the 'Boeuf Bourguignon GF DF' or Beef Braised in Red Wine with Dutch Carrots, Baby Onions and Bacon Lardons....the red wine flavour was dominant but my chilled 'Can Can Cocktail' (Tequila and Cointreau infused with Fresh Chilli with Violette liquor and a touch of Agave syrup served on the rocks) enhanced its contrasting flavour uniquely. The iconic Marcus Rivera, the tenor singer 'Star of the Evening' serenaded the audience with songs I love....especially "I will wait for you"....as I sat on the same table with his beloved partner Ms.Michelle Baltazar and her mother Cleo Morilla Baltazar. Marcus shared a glass of a bloody good drop from Burgundy 'Guillaume de Vergy Blanc de Blancs' made in France that cleansed our palate ready for the desserts....the tongue teaser 'Creme Brulée with Lemon Meringue Tartlet, Macaroon GF, Salted Caramel Eclaire and Belgian Chocolate Mousse GF. What an evening of wonderful Matt Monroe's classics by Filipino-Australian singer-actor Marcus Rivera and impressive French Cuisine with a modern twist in a snug venue with an ornate fireplace and boudoir lighting. ✨️ Simply relaxing and high commendable!

Yelp
The space exists over two floors and, on this Saturday night, the lower level was full and we were initially seated in a corner on the upper level. It was dark and the walls reflected the noise of a party table. We asked for a relocation and got a much better table near the unused stage - much nicer, allowing the possibility of conversation. The main course was a chateaubriand with all the trimmings. The beef was beautifully cooked and tender. The vegetables and sauces were presented on a separate plate, which overflowed our small table for two - a bit of a downside to this classic dish. For drinks, two lovely cocktails, then a bottle of Bordeaux.

Yelp
If that's what food in France tastes like, it makes me want to go to France right now :) Of all the shops/restaurants on Oxford Street, I have to say that I was quite impressed on how beautiful the decor was inside this restaurant. Elegant, classy and modern. The service was really good. All the french waiters were very professional and tentative. Food ? Impressive! I loved everything we ordered (beef cheek/ duck pie and the dessert). The duck pie seems to be quite popular as I saw a couple of tables around us ordered the same thing. I would highly recommend this restaurant for fine dining/ special occasions :) I cant wait to come back to try other dishes !

Yelp
Oh my god this place was SUCH a disappointment. I've been looking forward to going and heard so many good things about this restaurant. I went there for dinner with a friend. The setting is nice, the place is cosy and the service is very good... ...but I cannot believe I paid $38 for a meat pie! I ordered the duck and Pinot noir pie and it honestly tasted so terrible I couldn't finish it. There really wasn't anything French about it. And I'm French. My friend ordered the lamb cutlets and it was overcooked, and the potatoes undercooked. Things definitely got better for dessert. They bring you a plate of pastries to choose from, we both ordered the chocolate mousse and oh my god that one was delicious! I'm giving two stars because the main course was really terrible. Again, not sure if it was just tonight, but despite the good service and nice place, I will never go back!

Yelp
Definitely a huge improvement since the last time we were here 3 years ago! It was horrible at that one experience in 2013. Never thought we'd return, but we live next to it and it's always PACKED. This time? Amazing quality in food. We had the steak tartare, scallops. I had the trout special for main ... it was worth it. Minuses .. the waitor was lovely but service wasn't entirely there. We waited about 30 minutes after entree to get the main, in which they apologized for. Little things like - we were left with a table full of bread crumbs after the bread and nobody cleaned it up. They also took away my wine glass without asking if I wanted a refill, so I had to ask for a 2nd myself. Little things, that take away from the fine dining experience. This in no way reflects on the amazing food? But if they want to be at the top, it's the little things they should watch out for. Will definitely return.

Yelp
High Quality French Cuisine that is worth the price Every month a group of friends and I try a different restaurant. We go to different suburbs, different food styles, different pricing levels etc. Claires Kitchen has AMAZING staff who were so on the top of things that we were all left praising our waitress, and leaving a large tip. Our waitress was there when we needed her, knew who ordered which meal without having to ask when it was brought to the table, had water ready when we were low and booze without delays. Now lets talk food. WOW The menu isnt huge but I love that as it means what they have is done to perfection. I personally got the Piotrine De Pork and let me tell you the flavours were a delight with every element complimenting the next. I did taste a few of my friends meals , as we were all happy with everything and wanted others to taste the amazing food we each had. Yes the food is a little pricey but you really feel happy to pay it because every aspect was faultless in my eyes. The Food, the service and the atmosphere.

Yelp
From Order To Table: Perfect timing. Like a witty comeback. Service-ometer: Silver Service. Due to it mostly being French, some is hard to understand, but some like it that way. Stomachability: Amazing. I want to say French Nouveau but I'm not 100% sure. Digest suggest: Take someone you'd like to impress. First of all, this place is immaculately decorated. From perfectly pressed table cloths, to sparkling glasses and silverware. Even the waiters look like they're out of an Abercrombie and Fitch model book. Service was amazing. We were never left with an empty glass, never waited too long for a meal and were looked after without the servers 'hovering'. After being to an 'equally fancy French' restaurant in San Fran, this was 1/2 the price and the food was 10x as good. Amazing food. Fresh, subtle and saucy. French at its best.

Yelp
Came here for our anniversary dinner. We arrived early to enjoy a cocktail in the small bar area. The cocktails here are all hand crafted with detail, time and precision by the bar manager - Aurelien, and they are all delicious. He's pretty cute too. BONUS! We moved to our table and quite soon had placed our order for our food and a bottle of wine. My partner ordered the rabbit terrine for entree, with the pork belly for main, I went with the scallops followed by the Filet of beef, with a bottle of the Hugel Pinot Blanc. The food arrived in perfect timing and all the dishes were amazingly delicious, full of flavour. The tables at the front of the restaurant are quite close together and make for some fun food envy moments when meals are being delivered. The pork belly in particular was especially succulent but topped with a very thin layer of crackling. The beef was as perfect as one could hope for. We were then of course offered desert, which we couldn't resist. I went for the chocolate mousse - absolute heaven, and my partner went for the chocolate eclair - also very very good. When asked for coffee, I said yes, and partner said no, to which our waiter offered something like a cognac or brandy, again partner declined, waiter then suggested perhaps something sweet like a frangelico? Both of us lit up and said what an excellent idea that was. This was the absolute GREATEST upsell I have ever witnessed. Bravo Serveur!! The restaurant and atmosphere is gorgeous and intimate. The service is impeccable and Head Waiter, Valentin, goes out of his way to welcome and fair-well every single customer whilst also making sure everyone is comfortable and enjoying their time. Will definitely be back. And you should definitely be going.

Yelp
If you're familiar with the Slide (Cabaret bar) on Oxford Street, you may already be familiar with Marc Kuzma, aka Claire de Lune. He's been running it for the last 6 years. Now, Marc has started a new venture, and opened a french restaurant a few doors down from Slide, appropriately named Claire's Kitchen at Le Salon. Step through the doors from Oxford Street, and enter a world of glamour, decadence and french chic. Soaring ceilings, imported wallpapers, chandeliers and french antiques. Worlds away from the chaos of Oxford Street outside. Upstairs, you will find Le Salon. The perfect space for a cocktail party, or a large dinner party and complete with its own bar. We arrive, and are greeted by a charming French waiter (note: all waiters are French - a nice touch). We are escorted to a table by the window, and settle back into ornate couches. A night such as this is appropriately commenced with a glass of bubbles: Le menu, described as a traditional french brasserie menu with a few modern twists, makes our choices difficult. We decide to share a few entrees: *Coquilles Sant Jacques Au Poitron - Roasted scallops with pumpkin sabayon and micro herbs *Steak Tartare - served with condiments and toasted french baguette *Souffle Aux Fromages - Twice cooked three cheese souffle The dishes were spectacular, and I was particularly impressed with Ms L and Mr A trying steak tartare for the first time. They just may be converted! The wine list, is exclusively French, and we enlist the assistance of our French waiter to help with our decision. A refreshingly crisp wine from Alsace goes down a treat. Soon, it was time for main course. Mr M and Mr A both choose the beef fillet, Ms L chooses the pork belly, and I cannot go past their signature dish, the Duck Pinot Noir pie. The food is beautifully presented, very impressive and particularly well priced for the quality. When it comes time for desert, we decide to retire to Le Salon upstairs. We settle back into luxurious chesterfields by the fire and indulge in deserts and cheeses paired with a 'Claire de Lune' cocktail: We loved dining at Claire's Kitchen at Le Salon - it was a magical evening and I can't wait to return. Marc is the perfect host and chef. vous devez dîner leur bientôt!

Yelp
Everything about Claire's Kitchen has been amazing, every visit. Food - never disappoints. I have always been happy with whatever I order. Whenever I bring someone new to Claire's they are also, without a doubt, always impressed. Service - always helpful, very friendly. Gorgeous waiters, might I add. Atmosphere - beautiful setting. Prices - affordable. It's not a cheap restaurant but considering what you get with each visit, I am always happy to pay their prices. I have always been satisfied with every dining experience at Claire's Kitchen and I will continue to go back. If ever I have people come to Sydney to visit and they ask about good restaurants in Sydney, Claire's Kitchen is alway the first place that comes to mind.

Yelp
Superb !! Or with my French voice on "c'est forimidable !!" Have eaten here twice now, both times the whole experience was fantastic. Super attentive wait staff who seem to genuinely love their job and the food they so proudly serve. On top of that it won't cost you an arm and a leg for this experience, we would have easily paid more for such delicious cuisine. On my first visit I was blown away by the duck and brie pie, it was huge and delicious. Will be slowly working my way through the complete menu over the coming months.

Yelp
food - the bread and butter were superb, the duck in puff pastry was quite good, the braised lamb shank with couscous was fine. The deserts, pear and almond tart and lemon meringue pie with a chocolate macaroon were good. The menu items were a bit more involved and adventurous than usual french restaurants away from France so congrats on that. Food was good but not better than an average bistro-brasserie in Paris, so food i'd rate a 3. service - the service was very nice, discreet, helpful, always present when needed and absent when not. other restaurants can definitely take a lesson in waitering best practices from Claires ! The service gets a 5 atmosphere - nice airy space, a choice of calm and well suited music, nice color tones and comfy chairs. The atmosphere gets a 4.5 value - this is were french restaurants are always a downer. 18 AUD for desert, common'. 35+ AUD for a main is also excessive. Value gets a 2 despite the fact that this rated one of the more affordable french restaurants in Sydney.

Yelp
Magnifique Magnifique, the food is fantastic, the service is friendly. We dinned there for our anniversary, as soon as you walk in it's like being transferred to France, the decor is great with the cosy corners and fireplace. We had escargots and zucchini flower for entrée and the fillet de boeuf was cooked to perfection, c'est très bon.

Yelp
A great addition to Oxford Street, famed Marc Kuzma aka Claire de Lune's latest venture brings a little bit of gay Paris to Sydney. A great atmosphere, affordable price point and delightful host! I suggest trying this, the food was very good and I will definitely be back. Like Claire's Kitchen on Facebook here for daily deals and specials! https://www.facebook.com/claireskitchen/

Yelp
I've been to Claire's kitchen many times, I love to take friends who've never been before because it's quite an experience, and the food? Exquisite! The wine list is impeccable and the staff are lovely. And if you've never tried escargot before - this is the place is recommend you try it, they're delicious! A lovely entree recommendation - the cheese soufflé - YUM!!
google avatar

Leigh W.

Yelp
Amazing, authentic, delicious French food. From the moment you enter, the experience is exemplary. The cheese soufflé is second to none; the steak tartare is handcut and outstanding. The best you can get outside of France.

Jonathon E.

Yelp
What an experience - the good kind. Great food, service and the prices are just right. The staff at this restaurant are excellent. They dealt with our small group with ease and had knowledge of the menu and catered with a smile to GF requirements. The chateaubriand was cooked perfectly and made it to the table whilst still warm which based on past experience in some places is apparently a hard task ;) Starters were all delicious - recommend the beef tartare and escargot. The French wine list is very good and has a range of options at various price points and varietals. The 2013 Beaujolais we ordered was excellent.

Yelp
Excellent food, great wine and friendly staff. Overall really good experience. Oh, and the canard en croute was amazing.

Yelp
The food is well worth the visit - duck parfait and lamb are my favorites. The restaurant has a great atmosphere and the staff genuine and enthusiastic. The changing cocktail menu and wine list ensures you will come back again. Great for groups or a romantic dinner. One of the few quality restaurants on Oxford Street. Go, enjoy and tell your friends.

Yelp
Went here with partner, Patrick, for the Valentine's Day dinner special. Great atmosphere in this place. The backlit clock feature behind the bar immediately took us back to Musee d'Orsay. We were again, for a moment, in that rooftop cafe last August, eating chocolate cake and drinking apple cider. Therein lies the challenge for any restaurant that claims to be French and that is the instant comparison to the real thing. We were not disappointed. The cheese soufflé was light and delicate, the chateaubriand perfectly cooked and a generous serving size. While faux foie gras can never beat the original, this was surprisingly tasty. Our only concerns, and these are piddling, would be to have just one waiter per table, to have some live music and for the dessert, dramatically reduce the thickness of the chocolate heart and use better quality chocolate. When at morning tea the next day I told my colleagues about Claire's Kitchen, they were mightily impressed. Who says love is dead...?
