"We managed to find this exterior along a tiny road just off of the main street in Manchester that looked like it had not been touched in years; the shops had been boarded up and it has a wonderful record store, Clampdown Records, that we used and put 1980s LPs in the window."

As you may or may not know, I'm a DJ and a collector of vinyl. This shop does not dissapoint. Packed full of old and new vinyl and as you can see with my photo, a whole host of seven inch singles. Have a dig, have a chat buy something, just like records shops used to be like! Nice! 🙂

First visit here. Fantastic, well organized, so many collectible records! Owner Neil was so helpful, humble and fun! We talked to him for almost an hour! Neil played singles for us to listen to and we covered many musical genres, about which he was very knowledgable! The Clash, of course, Kate Bush, The Smiths, Northern Soul, Reggae, Motorhead, Stretford and compilations! Good job I don't live here! If you love music, and collecting vinyl, please add Clampdown to your list of record shops to visit!

Iconic record shop just on the border of the northern quarter. Been going here for many years. Great collection of records that’s very organised. The staff are great too, first time back in the shop today since before lockdown and got my Hendrix and Oasis fix. Highly recommended for all the vinyl lovers out there!

Yelp
This shop is my favorite in Manchester proper. The owner is a hell of a guy, very friendly and extremely helpful. Large section of vinyl and CDs along with a good amount of memorabilia. I've always found good music every time I've visited!

Yelp
Great record store right in the heart of Manchester city centre. Small store, but lots of vinyl to chose from & reasonably priced. If you love Japanese or audophile pressings, this is a store you will love. I also found a section dedicated to bands from Manchester like Oasis, Stone Roses, Happy Mondays & New Order ect which is cool to see from a store based in the city centre. If you are after signed LP's you are in look as Clampdown Records features a nice little section dedicated to this type of collectible. Overall this is a great little store that I have visited every week I pop into Manchester & have bought quite a bit of stuff from here. The owner is friendly & very knowledgable about his stuff. I was asking one time I visited about Japanese vinyl as I had heard their pressings are superior when compared to American or UK pressings & pretty much gave me the full rundown of which periods this is true of + things to look out for. Great store with a very honest, helpful owner.

Yelp
Got a taste for 45s and 33s? You may want to swing by Clampdown Records next time you're in town then. Located a couple of streets behind The Roadhouse, its a bit of a hidden gem that stocks a wide variety of new and secondhand vinyl and CDs. There's lots of vintage rock and roll, punk and indie and smaller sections devoted to funk, northern soul, dance, hip hop and electro. Madchester fans should also note there's a large selection of original vinyl, CDs, posters, photos and signed memorabilia. The prices are steeper than Vinyl Revival on Oldham Street but if you're looking for an autographed copy of 'Blue Monday' or 'Spiral Scratch'EP, this is a great place to start.

Yelp
Clampdown Records would be a perfect addition to Manchester's trendy Northern Quarter. Yet it sits a few good few streets away near Manchester Piccadilly. It's a quiet, honest record shop that sells second hand vinyl and CDs. It's also a great place to pick up a retro Oasis or Stone Roses t-shirt for a tenner. I like this record shop as there's no pretension. It's a straightforward place that sells a really tasteful selection of punk, indie and rock vinyl. There's quite a lean in this place towards stuff from Factory Records and from Manchester in general, but then that is to be expected. The second-hand CDs aren't quite as exciting. But I did find an irony-gem in the shape of Hanson's debut album Middle of Nowhere for just £3.99. Go and check out Clampdown, I think it gets forgotten sometimes in the face of Piccadilly Records and Vinyl Exchange.
