We stayed at the Recreo branch, a lovely little hotel ideally located in the historic center of SMA, an easy walk from everything. Beautifully designed rooms, though a bit quirky - the bathtub was right in the room by the bed, and the shower stall (with a clear glass door) also right there in the room. Not an issue for couples, but if you are staying with a friend, well, hopefully you are close friend with nothing to hide. The staff was helpful but came across more as hired hands than the staff one would expect at a boutique hotel - they spoke very minimal English, and did their jobs but were not especially gracious or friendly. Breakfast was included, you order the night before from a limited menu, food was okay but unremarkable. One irritating thing about our stay was that the rooms have nespresso-type coffee machines but no capsules are provided. You have to request them at the office, and they charge $30 MXN per capsule. Not expensive, but one doesn’t expect to be nickel-and-dimed like this at what is otherwise a nice boutique hotel.

Gorgeous rooms. Beautiful courtyard. 2 min walk from the main plaza. Probably the best and most attentive service I’ve ever received from a hotel staff.

Bad experience with this hotel regarding refund Due to a change in plans, we canceled our reservation and notified the hotel 7 days in advance, adhering to their cancellation policy. However, obtaining the refund was like pulling teeth. First, it took nearly three months of persistent follow-ups to receive it. Second, the refund amounted to only 70% of the original booking, and the hotel offered no justified explanation for this deduction. They failed to provide any bill or invoice detailing how the refund was calculated and stopped responding entirely when I sought clarification. I found the place lacking professionalism and do not recommend it.

We recently had our wedding in San Miguel and so much of our wedding week went smoothly thanks to Clandestino (Pila Seca location). We had all of our friends stay in this hotel and everyone absolutely loved their rooms. There is a bar downstairs (at the pila seca location) and breakfast was provided each morning. Which was so helpful when traveling with a big group. The staff was so helpful, friendly, and accommodating. They helped us set up rides for all of our guests to and from the airport. There is a restaurant that opened upstairs recently, which was so convenient and came with a great view and vibe. I am so happy we decided to have all our guests stay here, a week later and they are still raving about the place.

Comfortable smaller hotel. The staff is incredibly attentive. We arrived very early in the morning, WAY before check-in. They gave us our room for much needed sleep. They offer breakfast, either in your room or on the patio. You fill out a form the day before with your choices and the time you'd like it. There are a lot of choices. I had waffles with bacon and enchiladas with goat cheese. Both were excellent.

Can't say enough about how special this place is. Every staff member we interacted with was amazing. The courtyard was quiet and inviting. Our room was so charming. Great bed and pillows. The breakfast was delicious. Highly recommend this little slice of heaven!

Google
this is a small boutique hotel in a great location, walking distance to all the best restaurants , bars, shopping and markets. Breakfast is delightful, served in the pretty central courtyard. Rooftop bar opens late afternoon and is a great spot to view the skyline and enjoy a drink or two. Some rooms are on the small side so choose the front rooms, which are larger, if available. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Would not hesitate to stay here again!

Had a lovely stay at Clandestino Hotel. It felt super private and not as crowded as other hotels we’ve visited in San Miguel. They have a beautiful view from the rooftop. The rooms are spacious, clean, and beautiful. We had a lovely balcony facing the patio, the stuff was so friendly, and the booking came with breakfast included and I have to say the food was amazing! My compliments to the chef, we had the best Chilaquiles there made to our liking with goat cheese and our choice of salsa. All breakfast choices come with Coffee and a juice and fresh fruit. I would recommend this place 100%. Also, it’s walking distance from everything, and in front of a school and plaza de toros. Amazing stay, can’t wait to come back!

Yelp
This is an absolutely adorable and lovely place! At every corner, there is something thoughtfully provided & artfully designed. The staff are above and beyond; super welcoming and friendly. I had a wonderfully peaceful stay here overall and this would have been a five star + review, had it not been for one fatal flaw -- the sink, shower and tub water smells like sewer. To be fair, this seems to be a major issue across Mexico with the tap water. But only some hotels have the sewer water... the other hotel I stayed at didn't. Not sure if this is because they filter their water additionally somehow or they were just in another area of town. Hard to feel clean when the water you're using smells like toilet water... and this smell unfortunately lingers on your skin Other than that issue, I would 100% recommend this place. Maybe the owners will see this review and find a way to fix this problem. It's clear they lovingly planned this place with the utmost hospitality in mind for their guests and it's a shame that the experience is marred by the unsanitary water

Yelp
Very friendly staff, overall nice, but a bit overdone, they walked in to our room every time we walked out, I found that a bit much, the restroom has no privacy, for those of you in a fresh relationship, not sure if this is the type of privacy suitable for you. They do need to work on their breakfast, wasn't that great, made my boyfriend sick. A bit noisy if you end up in the entrance in room IIII.

Yelp
Amazing, boutique hotel right in the heart of SMA. There are only 8 rooms, so you feel like you have the place to yourself. They have a fun rooftop bar with some of the best views in town. Staff is great and super helpful. Highly, highly recommend!

Yelp
This hotel is amazing! We were blown away by the staff, the location, the hotel's style/architecture and decór. A big thank you to the staff who was easy going ( and the utmost professionals), friendly and helped us get reservations, taxis, and ubers. Located four blocks from the Plaza this hotel easily allows for short walking distances to most of San Miguel's top attractions. The hotel has a rooftop bar and watching the sunset from atop is magical. We stayed in room 7 and had the King master suite. It offers a small deck, a clawfoot tub, a walk-in shower, a king size bed, and large floor to ceiling windows that allowed in the perfect amount of light. One of the most peaceful moments in San Miguel is sitting on the patio, drinking a coffee, and reading a book. There is a small babbling fountain that gave out a wonderful outdoor white noise. I highly recommend the hotel for the excellent service, the amenities, the tranquility it provides in the area, and the safety. I can't wait to visit San Miguel again and stay at Hotel Clandestino.

Yelp
Everything about this hotel is perfect. From the moment you walk in the door the staff is attentive, the place is magical and once you get to your room it is not only beautiful but smells so amazing. The attention to detail Clandestino provides makes it a complete dream and I never wanted to leave. The in room tub was the absolute best after walking around eating tacos all day. I will definitely be staying here again, and it wouldn't be soon enough!

Yelp
Beautiful and relaxing place. Rooms are so awesome, bed is very comfortable, they supply hair soap, conditioner and body soap that is a very good quality. I'm pretty sure the water is soft water !! Love that !! Very modern as well. Employees are amazing!!! They have security cameras that they utilize to service guest as well. Ias we were bringing our bags out of the room to leave, 2 gentlemen came briskly up the stairs to get our luggage. As soon as we reach the entrance door late at night to come in, they r there in seconds. Daytime someone stands at the entrance to great and assist you. My husband had gotten stung by a bee in town. He is very allergic to them. Employees were ALL over it immediately. One ran down the street to hail me a cab while another jumped on the phone and called a pharmacy to see if they had epi pens in stock and a doctor on the premises. ( which is good to know that most pharmacy's will have a doctor at specific times to see you and payment is only gratuity if you choose so) When we returned, every time we saw an employee, they would ask how my husband was doing. So grateful for their prompt, thorough and ever amazing service !! Place is kept constantly clean. Rooftop bar is adorable and has amazing view. So close to the center quad of town and so many places to see around here. If we ever make it back here again, this is our place for sure! Ah, almost forgot, breakfast is absolutely exceptional!! Really going to mis that !
