2.5 stars Room: The bed was clean which was nice if you didn’t look at the amount of dust on the bed frames. Honestly there was just dust piling up in the corners but if it had been cleaned a little deeper it would’ve been great. The bathroom was fine—mainly got the job done although the toilet rarely flushed toilet paper, and the sink was probably three feet off the ground. Just very outdated appliances that if they’d upgraded it would not have been a problem. Not too many outlets but I ended up unplugging a random modern light mirror and utilized that. Nothing extraordinary but for the price I guess it’s what you expect. Would only get a little noisy if you had people above you or walking past, but felt safe. Breakfast: Served from 7-9(:30). Again, nothing fancy but nice to have something light like coffee or small pancakes. Location: Amazing if you’re just looking for a place close to the ferry. You could walk there no problem and it would only take two minutes. The beach was definitely not the nicest but I can’t say I utilized that. It took around five minutes of walking to hit the downtown area which wasn’t bad at all if you don’t mind walking. Further than that it would take about 12 minutes to hit the middle of it and probably 18 to hit the end of the first street before turning the corner. In case you haven’t been before the downtown is two streets, sort of like an upside down L shape. Amenities (pool/gym/etc): Old and unclean to be frank, would not feel comfortable using. Overall, decent if you are just looking for a place to sleep but outdated with semi unusable amenities.

Stayed for two nights and loved being on the water. My 3 kids had a blast splashing around in lake Huron. The hotel room wasn't perfect but it was clean, everything worked and the location is awesome. I got a good deal on the room compared to most of the places available. I would stay there again...

Google
We were told this hotel is walking distance to downtown... Maybe for younger people but seniors could not do the walk. The rooms are pretty clean, a little freshening up would be nice. The from desk people are very dry personalities. Don't smile much or ask how your time at the hotel is going. Don't try to check in before 4:00, you will be told very FIRMLY " no no no, not before 4:00." 😂 The private beach is nice.

We stayed for four nights July21-24. 1# Room had a very bad odor(think damp mildew pee). We asked front desk to have it cleaned in AM and left for the day came back at 2 still not cleaned called front desk and they said a hour so we went to beach. Came back around 5 to it still not done so as we were getting ready to head out for the night they came to clean, i said we would need at least 10-15min to get out but did let them know we had been out of room ALL DAY.When we got back the room was a little less stinky, but we bought a candle to help. 2# the pool is dirty gross smelly and freezing...my kids refused to use it. 3# beach seating was shaky at best trying to find one that wasn't broke. But it did have a nice beach 4# toilet paper is very thin small rolls and you can't get them to bring it up to room. so literally everyday we had to go to lobby. Same with shower towels. 5# breakfast was just okay. The price draws family's there, but do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.

My friends and I planned a last minute road trip to Mackinac island before school started for us. We all drove 8.5 hours from Indianapolis and arrived at Mackinac city at around 1:30am. We were dumb to assume the ferries would pick us up at that hour and bring us to the hotel we booked. We didn’t get a refund for obvious reasons so we had to stay in Mackinac city. We tried many hotels until Devon recommended the clarion. Bill checked us in and was the nicest and most understanding front desk worker I’ve met. He checked us in at around 2am and told us we had two queen beds for 4 people. When I walked into the room and saw a king bed and 2 queen beds, we all thought we had the wrong room. He gave us the best room possible. In the morning, Devon checked us out and we were definitely a little past our check out time but he was very understanding and amazing for not charging us a late checkout fee. Bill and Devon made our trip before we even arrived to Mackinac island. I will forever be appreciative of their kindness and understanding. You now have 4 loyal clarion/ choice hotel members who will recommend this place to all family and friends I know! Thank you guys!

Google
staff was rude & not helpful at all . traveled 5 hours and payed over $2000 ahead of time for 2 LAKEFRONT rooms and they just gave us whatever they wanted to and basically told us we were SOL even though it was made clear when making the reservation that we wanted lakefront rooms. not accommodating at all. everytime we asked for anything the staff was not pleasant about it. the house keepers were very nice and were able to get our what we needed whenever we asked which was nice. everything is outdated and the rooms smelled bad. no table in the room either. read all reviews before booking! Definitely do not recommend and will not stay again

Google
The location of the hotel is convenient. The rooms are definitely dated and some minor repairs need made. My biggest complaint is the lack of housekeeping. We ran out of toilet paper, called the front desk and was instructed to go to the lobby to get some. Mentioned that our room was not serviced with fresh towels and toilet paper. Next day our room was not serviced again, purchased our own toilet paper to use. Today on our way out we stopped by the front desk to ask for our room to be serviced. We returned after 7 hours to no service.

Google
Booked the room for 3 days last week. Rooms are definitely dated and in need of a good cleaning. Sheets were clean but housekeeping never came in to freshen up the room or give us clean towels. I caught housekeeping on our 3rd day to ask for a roll of toilet paper and reluctantly she gave me one roll, her attitude, well let’s just say you felt like she was doing you a real favor. The continental breakfast was definitely not what I remember them to be. The beach area was not kept up at all. There was a dirty diaper out there for the 3 days we were there and towels everywhere, but I guess that didn't surprise me because it went along with everything else about this motel. The only plus on the room we had was the view.

Yelp
Title: Disappointing Experience at Clarion Hotel Due to Manager's Lack of Empathy I recently had a disappointing experience with the Clarion hotel that I feel compelled to share. My family and I had booked a stay at the hotel to celebrate my grandson's birthday, but unfortunately, our plans were derailed due to unforeseen circumstances. We were traveling from a different state, but all our flights were canceled by Delta, leaving us unable to make it to the hotel in time for the occasion. Despite our genuine and valid reasons for not being able to fulfill our reservation, the hotel's manager, Ashle, displayed a shocking lack of empathy and understanding. Ashle refused to refund our nearly $400 payment, citing their policy, even though our situation was beyond our control. As a military family with a long-standing service history, we were particularly disheartened by the lack of consideration shown to us during a crisis caused by circumstances outside our control. Ashle's dismissive attitude, rudeness, and condescending behavior only added to our disappointment. Her refusal to work with us, given the extenuating circumstances we faced, left us feeling frustrated and disrespected. Despite our attempts to explain the situation and seek a reasonable resolution, she callously laughed off our concerns and disregarded our valid request for a refund. We are currently in the process of reaching out to corporate in hopes of finding a fair resolution to this matter. However, based on our experience with Ashle, I feel compelled to warn others, especially military families, about the lack of compassion and professionalism displayed by the management at this particular Clarion hotel. In conclusion, I urge anyone considering a stay at this hotel to proceed with caution. Our unfortunate experience has left us deeply disappointed and dissatisfied with the service provided by Ashle, the manager at this establishment. While the hotel may seem appealing on the surface, the lack of empathy and understanding demonstrated by the management in times of crisis is a significant cause for concern. Overall, I would advise against choosing this hotel, particularly if you are a military family seeking understanding and support during unexpected circumstances. Thank you for taking the time to read about our experience, and I hope that by sharing this review, others can make informed decisions when considering accommodations at the Clarion hotel.

Yelp
I booked this property online through a 3rd party for just somewhere to shower and sleep since I was going to check in about 10p. I had ground floor two queen with courtyard view (the courtyard view are the pop machines and the parking lot) Front desk staff were pleasant. They explained breakfast was a granola bar, apple and a water available in the office from 7a-9a. Pros and cons for the property. Pros: location, mini fridge, cold a/c, strong water pressure in shower, large flat screen TV, friendly staff, ice machine worked (once I found it.) Cons: no hot breakfast, stains on the carpet, peeling wallpaper, mold in the shower, the shower drain backed up, bathroom light took 10 minutes to get bright, dated, one bed was missing a box spring, paper thin walls, uncomfortable beds, no extra outlets. This place is the reason I always bring slides and wear them everywhere in the room. So I got some decent sleep, got clean and didn't get any bug bites like other reviewers had. I am so glad I paid after season weekday rates. Whoever pays weekend rate for this place will get ripped. I definitely recommend paying a few bucks more and staying somewhere nicer, newer with a hot breakfast.

Yelp
This place was definitely not kept up with. The staff experience was just okay. The pool looked very dirty, and it looked as if the pool had no filter. We were looking forward to cooling off, after taking a trip up to the island but we had second thoughts after seeing the conditions of the pool. It had looked as if there were flaked off dead skin. DO NOT SWIM IN THE POOL!!! The room we had gotten was on the second floor. It was dirty looking and the lamps looked as if someone had broken the inside of the shade. Did not look kept up with what so ever! As I went to go take a shower to cool off, the bath plug as mildew all over it!!! SPIDERS EVERYWHERE!!! The door locks were very confusing for the room we were located in. Not to mention the elevator, it looked not cleaned at all, now I understand that it is coming from the outside into a elevator but the walls looked like they just sprayed cleaner on it and didn't wipe down it looked gross! on the way up to about hotel room these older woman had mentioned how nasty the walls of the elevator had looked. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE WHAT SO EVER! The price was definitely not worth it.

Yelp
This is a crap hotel, avoid at all costs if you can. Terrible customer service, terrible rooms, wallpaper peeling off the walls, light bulbs going out in the middle of a shower. Not able to help me with connecting to Wi-Fi, missing iron and flatboard on the wall, asked for a late check out by 1hr, was met with annoyance and sighing. When I first went into my room, it was wide open, I called the front desk to inform them because I was nervous someone had broken in and they did not care. They said it was probably the cleaning lady who forgot to close it, which is probably true, but that's not the way to handle this type of situation. I might come back if and when they change their entire staff. 0/100 wish I could rate 0 stars.

Yelp
I gave this hotel a 2 star instead of a 1 star because of two reasons. First the staff at the front desk and the cleaning personnel were very nice (not the manager, who was extremely rude). Second it's right on the beach and located in a very convenient spot. A group of 12 of us (separate rooms) stayed for two weeks on government business (orders). 2 colleagues had to leave halfway through the stay because their orders changed. They went to check out and the staff at the front desk told them they could leave but would still be charged for the entire two weeks. The reason was because we signed and acknowledged that we could not cancel any part of the stay. We asked to talk to the manager and when we brought up the situation she was very rude about the entire thing. Continued to repeat that we had signed a contract and they wouldn't budge. I asked to talk to her supervisor but she said her supervisor was the owner and that she was the liaison between the owner and guests. She also informed me that the owner would not say anything different because it was his rule and he wouldn't budge. Needless to say, we will not be staying at this hotel and we will work on getting them taken off the government list of approved hotels. The room is very outdated, looks like something from the 70's. Has not been updated in a very long time. The outlets in the room are all in a very inconvenient place, and the WiFi is terrible (bare minimum WiFi). The door didn't want to close and I had to redo my key 3 separate times. A colleague changed his key more and they finally had to come and change the entire lock out. They advertise breakfast but it was a joke. All they had was ham in water (taste was terrible), rubbery pre-made pancakes, hard boiled eggs. The Coffee was good, but breakfast was only from 7-9 which was very inconvenient such a short amount of time. The pool and hot tub not very clean but at least they were open. Gym was small but ok. Their washer/dryer's (laundry room) was out of service so we had to walk down to the Hamilton hotel and do laundry. Then when we finally checked out, the hotel charged us tax even though it was supposed to be tax exempt. And my choice reward number had been removed so I wasn't getting credit for the stay. I had to call and get it added back again. The tax issue is on going, I had to send an email to get it removed. All in all I would not ever recommend staying at this hotel. When the owner has no concern for the customers/guests and really only cares about how much money he makes. The same family owns all of the hotels and most of the Restaurants in Mackinaw City so they don't care about their customers or the military. I recommend stay at Holiday Inn, Lighthouse View Motel, or Rainbow Motel.

Bill B.

Yelp
Everything here is the worst. The breakfast every morning was pancakes and ham boiled in water. One morning I was excited to see eggs. One bite and that was trash. The staff are so indifferent and unhelpful. There is no maid service throughout your stay. The place is very dirty and outdated. No where near the cost. Wish there was a way to give no stars. Terrible.

Janet C.

Yelp
Very dirty....only stayed because I had my own sheets.....found someones panties in the corner and they weren't mine. Don't stay here !!

Yelp
The hotel is old out dated and there were no ports to charge our iPhones so make sure to take a USB. The breakfast selection was sad. No fruit. No yogurt. No oatmeal. Just ham and toast and cereal. The breakfast area was in a weird location on the second floor and it was old and we saw a spider. The balcony had a lot of bugs. The pool was outside in the middle of the parking lot so you had to go out of the hotel to the pool. This was a last minute trip so I had to take whatever hotel was available. Then we had this high window with no covering so the daylight woke us up at 5:30am.

Jacki B.

Yelp
Stayed here while on a bus tour. The room had a musty odor to it. Very outdated. I checked my sheets, I do this when I stay at a hotel. I was shocked to see that the bottom sheet only covered the top half of the bed. There were stains on the covers. My roommate also found a stain on her top sheet. We had tiny bugs flying around the sink area. The door to the bathroom didn't open all the way. Carpet was worn as was the furniture. Breakfast was served in the second story Breakfast room. No elevator to get there. Some of the people in the tour group were unable to do stairs. The business area was being used for storage, carts with vacuums, towels and various supplies. You did have access to the computers. Thumbs up to the young man that came and changed our beds. He did a great job. I wouldn't recommend staying here.

Magen W.

Yelp
There was absolutely no handsoap to wash our hands, we had to go buy some. The pool doors on our side of the building were locked 2 of the 3 nights we were there and when I called to ask about it, the lobby woman was rude and condescending, talking to me like I was a child. Then when my niece called to ask as well, she was incredibly rude to my niece as well. The 'free breakfast' was subpar at best, offering little to be desired. The hotel was not at all clean, and the cleaning people didn't come around unless requested. The pool.water, when we actually got in, was green and freezing, and very dirty. We will never stay there again. I could have gotten past most of it, but the rude hotel staff was a deal breaker

Yelp
Took over 20 minutes to check in. They are understaffed and have to sell other places to go and eat. After checking in our room wasn't ready. The cleaning lady was still in our room. They said give her 10 more minutes. We waited and she was still in our room. She seemed nice enough but her cleaning bin with towels was filled with some garbage as well. Empty pop bottles and such. On top of our new towels. Ice makers were not accessible. We were on the 2nd floor And all were by the pool house. One wasn't working. It was a pain just to get ice. Front staff seemed annoyed at any questions and not willing to help. We checked out one day early it was overpriced at $200 a night for the king/2 Queen room. Bathroom had mildew and moldy peeling wallpaper. Room wasn't very clean. Pool wasn't bad but nothing exciting. Breakfast was sub par. Some sort of fake eggs and semi frozen fruit - they couldn't make a fresh fruit salad?? Give me a break. The one plus was the view. Otherwise i wished we stayed somewhere else. I'm going to complain when j check out as this was a disappointment. Wifi barely worked also!! I had some school work to do and never could submit it here.

Yelp
This hotel needs to be upgraded. Obviously is older and the company has sure got as much "blood out of the rock" as possible. Got into our room walked around it. When going into bathroom walked into a big spider web. Found the big boy up in the corner and killed him. Checked out entire room and didn't find anymore. Outdated and time to spend some profits back into upgrading this worn out hotel. Shower valve leaked leaving mold in shower. TV didn't work and had to reset 3 X to get to work. On a positive note - front desk service was excellent and our room was huge.

Debbie J.

Yelp
The only good thing I can say about our room the bed were comfortable. our air conditioner was broke and only outlet available to charge phones was in the bathroom.
google avatar

Shelley A.

Yelp
Fleas in the room! The rooms are a little dated and our bathroom there was peeling wallpaper! The room mirror had a little handprints all over it and we were not traveling with children. The worst of our experience are the 45 flea bites on my feet, legs and ankles. When we called it to their attention they said they would have a manager call us. Guess what? No one has called, avoid this place!!!!

Rocco S.

Yelp
By far, the worst hotel I've ever been to. Disgusting filth and hair in the pool and jacuzzi. Walls are disgusting and filled with dirt and bugs. Talked to the employees at the front and they refused to give us a refund. The manager was incredibly rude on the phone. You are better off sleeping in a dumpster than staying at this pitiful excuse for a hotel.

Yelp
Mackinaw City holds a special place in my husband and I heart. 20 years ago, we were married at the young age of 22 and 24. We didn't have much money, so we chose Mackinaw City for our honeymoon destination. We had a wonderful stay at the Hamilton Inn Select in 2003. We come back on our anniversary every year, and this recent trip was my 6-year-old son's first stay in Mackinaw that he would be able to remember. We stayed at the Clarion this time. Both waterparks were very dirty, and it was very clear that the pool and especially the hot tub hadn't been cleaned in a very long time. One attendant was checking bands, but no one was regulating inside the waterpark area. One family had a naked infant in both the pool and hottub with no swim diaper on. I didn't even see a sign that said swim diapers were required. I have been to several waterparks, and this was by far the most unsanitary. The outside of the hotel had litter everywhere, including cigarette butts all over the beach. The beach is not kept up at all. The chairs were very filthy, and one chair was off to the side in a muddy area stuck. The faucet to rinse off after swimming in the lake was not working. The carpet in the room was so dirty I kept my feet covered the entire stay. The furniture was very outdated and very bulky, making the room much smaller. The free breakfast was a joke. There was disgusting Canadian bacon soaking in water and pre-made pancakes. The only other choices were toast , hard-boiled eggs, and cereal. You shouldn't advertise a free hot breakfast if this is what you offer. I am very saddened that the hotels have been let go and are not kept up. Shame on the owners for continuing to do business like this.

Yelp
Rooms were fairly clean, comfortable. Service was horrible. Most of the staff up front were friendly ( one woman had a huge chip in her shoulder ). We stayed five days, never had housekeeping come to bring us clean towels, more soap/shampoo, or empty our garbage. I called front desk and they said "when housekeeping comes in we will send them down". 10 hours later they still hadn't showed. I went to pool house finally and grabbed pool towels just so we could shower! We will not return.

Yelp
STAY AWAY!!! Booked 2 rooms for 2 nights. After I drove my family 4 1/2 hours to the hotel, we arrived to an unmaintained, outdated and filthy property. Due to the visible conditions of the building, before taking occupancy, we looked at our rooms. Both rooms were horribly outdated, worn out carpet, bugs dead and alive everywhere. When we told the office about this, they said there's nothing they can do, it's just a way of life there. Because of the filthy conditions, we chose not to stay. The manager refused to issue a refund and referenced their "cancellation policy ". I explained that I did not cancel, I arrived with the intention of checking in and due to the conditions, I did not feel comfortable staying with my family in their bug filled rooms (see attached photos). Manager was rude, arrogant and unprofessional. When I said I would call corporate to complain, she said "good luck with that ". After calling corporate, they stated that this location is a franchise and refunds are at the discretion of the owner. Horrible customer service. We spent more money and stayed elsewhere. By all means STAY AWAY!!!

Cyndi K.

Yelp
We booked a room for a trip to Mackinaw Island. When we checked in and went to our room we were appalled by how dirty it was!!! The room smelled and the bathroom was disgusting, mold all around the tub faucet and the shower head was extremely moldy!! There were dead bugs smashed on the walls of the bathroom! We packed up and went to another hotel. This was a AAA 3 Diamond hotel and we plan to contact AAA about they're rating as well. If we could, we wouldn't give it any stars at all.

Corda M.

Yelp
We reserved two rooms for a total of three nights. Our plan was to stay one night, go elsewhere the second night and return for the third and fourth nights. When we checked in on Monday, we asked to cancel the reservation for Thursday night. The staff was rude and told us that it was too late. When we got to the rooms, both were freezing cold and smelled funny. One of the rooms had multiple insects: flies and something else with wings that we did not recognize. The bathroom ceilings had mildew. When we returned, we were assigned different rooms. One of the bathrooms had a fan that needed to be cleaned as it was out of balance and made a terrible noise. I hope people in the surrounding rooms could not hear it, but I wouldn't be surprised if they could. We decided to leave on Thursday, even though we hadn't been allowed to cancel our reservation. Yes, it was that bad!!! When checking out of the hotel, we were told that in order to cancel we would be charged for the rooms. We were also told that if we had made the request on Monday (which we had done), they would have canceled the Thursday reservation. When told that we had made the request on Monday, there was no notation that the request had been made. None of the issues with the room had been passed on either. Best advice for the Mackinaw City Clarion: Don't go there!

Keith K.

Yelp
Third floor room with no elevator. Dated facility with very few electrical outlets making phone charging and the like difficult. Our balcony door didn't lock and one of the lights didn't work. There were rips in our sheets. Will stay elsewhere next time. On the positive side, the staff was very friendly.

Yelp
Wonderful staff! They were so wonderful to us during our stay this past weekend. They offered us tons of discounts on our activities and told us about beautiful spots to see! Definitely an experience to come back to! We had trouble with our payment due to being out of the states and they had no problem assisting and waiting with us. They gave us a nice room with a lovely jacuzzi inside near the beach front- a bit cold, so we didn't mind not being directly infront of it. Hotel was busy with guest but was overall surprised of how nice everything was!

Yelp
Booked our room online and arrived early in the afternoon and surprising enough we were aloud to check in. We had a king room on the first floor. Definitely dated and needs some updating. The room smelled of wet towels/mildew. Every time you turned the sink on it would make a very high pitched sound, and the lighting in the bathroom was very dim. The bed was comfortable but the pillows made the sleep rough. They were very small and on the firm side. I could not get past the mildew smell. When you pay good money for a hotel you definitely expect more. Definitely will not return to that location.

Gail H.

Yelp
Pros: We were able to get a lake veiw room at a very resonable price. Our room, on the 4th floor, was pleasant with a cathedral ceiling, making it feel roomier that it actually was. We enjoyed the little balcony overlooking the lake, with a nice view of the sunrise. It seemed reasonably clean. Cons: There is no direct elevator to the 4th floor. You get off on the 3rd floor of the building next door, go down a half flight of steps to an elevated passage between the buildings, then up another half flight of steps. In addition to these steps, there are two or three steps to access the elevator on the ground floor; no ramp. The other access issue is the breakfast area on the second floor. This is serviced by the same inaccessible elevator or the stairs. I wonder how they get away with this? The breakfast was without doubt, the worst I've ever had. One doesn't expect too much from a free breakfast, but some scrambled eggs, bacon or sausage is pretty standard as are biscuits and gravy. Not here! A hardboiled egg and some very unappealing looking ham was the main entree. Other offerings included pancakes (no butter, only margarine), toast, and corn flakes. I think there may have been some sorry looking cello-wrapped (not fresh) muffins as well. I did not see anyone in attendance to clean tables or make sure coffee pots were full. The room itself was dismal with no effort to make it attractive. The only good thing I can say is there was no TV in the room; I detest listening to TV with my breakfast.

Samia A.

Yelp
worst hotel i've ever seen!! i do not recommend when we got there we went to are hotel room . Mold everywhere!! and there was many insects and spiders. The beds had bed bugs!! When we went to give back are hotel room keys because of how dirty it was they charged us an extra 220$ just for leaveing and no refunds for your dirty rooms!

Yelp
After the Hamilton Inn gave away our reservations lay were very friendly and professional. The gave us two large beachfront rooms for less then then the other place was going to be. The bed was very comfortable. I had the best sleep I've ever had at a hotel. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Toni K.

Yelp
We had a terrible experience staying at the hotel. They overcharged us and the pool was filthy. I would not recommend staying at the hotel.

Tim M.

Yelp
Consistent with all of the other one recommendations for this unit I will attach a bunch of pictures to show a terrible condition it's in it's not we're staying here I discourage anybody from staying here especially if have have children this is not healthy please stay away

Kyle A.

Yelp
We booked a suite with 2 queens in one room and a third queen in a second room. The hotel allowed us to check in early so we could get our stuff into the room before heading to the Star Line dock for the boat to Mackinac Island. The room upon quick inspection seemed fine. But that changed a few hours later when we returned... We found multiple pieces of trash in the room that had been left behind and dirty towels. The screen door to the balcony was off the tracks and bent beyond repair. The TV cabinet could not be closed because the latches were broken. Almost every lamp in the room did not work and was rattling loose from the mounts on the wall. One of the TV's could not be changed from TruTV with the remote or the TV itself, luckily we like Impractical Jokers. The doorframe leading into the room was so warped that you could barely open the door. The door lock card reader would not recognize most of our key cards, so we only had one working key out of the 6 given to us. The elevator smelled like a wet dog. The beach area seemed nice, but we didn't go down there, so don't know if it was as good as it looked from the third floor. This hotel has the potential to be very good. I'm not sure if it's short staffed (I saw multiple housekeepers, so I didn't seem short staffed) or if the operators just don't care, but it was disappointing. I gave two stars for the view and the ability to check in early, but unless things improve in future reviews, I won't stay here again, especially considering the price.

Yelp
I wish I could post negative stars. The hotel had no actual bedsheets, stains on the walls, stains on the bed, and horrible poor customer service. This hotel, along with this town, had absolutely no regards for Covid restrictions. Absolutely and complete disappointment for what could've been an amazing trip.

Yelp
This review is going to be a mixed bag review. This is only 1 of a few hotels in mackinaw  city that have a 2 bedroom suite. The rooms itself are very good looking and clean. The king size bed in my room was very comfortable. However the pillows were like heatsinks. They would collect the heat from your head and blast it back at you like a blast furnace. The bathroom was very nice, but the shower didn't work. Faucet would turn on, but there was no knob to start the shower. The next day they said you should have called we would have come over. Yeah 7 in the morning I want a maintenance person in my face. The also said theres a knob under faucet. There is not. I felt all over that shower. The two wierd flaws were the clock wasn't plugged in and the volume key on my tv remote didn't work. The last flaw was the free hot breakfast. The eggs wete by far the WORST eggs I have ever tasted. They ran out of Apple Juice. Their toaster barely works. Their sausage looked horrible, I didn't try it. So in the end cereal to eat. The service was fake friendly. The lady checking us in didn't seem to care for her job and it showed. Plus she quoted a price that was $20 more than online. Overall a 3 1/2 stars . Rounded down to 3. Would I return? Funny enough even with all the problems I probably would come back.

Yelp
I've been here less than an hour and this place is awful. It's a Friday night and my family tracked over 4 hours to get here, and within minutes of getting my kids down they have fireworks going off on the beach that legit shakes things on the tables because they're so close. The front staff is incredibly rude too. Take the advice of all the other reviewers and don't give them your money.

Yelp
Three pluses: 1) Proximity to beach and Star Line Ferry 2) Hot water 3) Clean beds And that's about the only good things about this dump. Not entirely sure the carpets were ever swept before we checked in. Room is really dated and in need of repair. Bathroom fan didn't work, light switch turned the TV on and off. Restroom at the pool was out of order with apparently no plan to repair it. No restroom in the lobby to use, but you can walk upstairs to the next door building in the "breakfast room" to use that one. Made coffee with the pot in the bathroom. After day two the filter was removed and thrown away, but the pot of coffee made in day one was still there day three. Of the three days we stayed, we saw the same coffee cup and used towel laying on a beach chair: a sure sign they don't do any upkeep on their beach. And the showers to wash the sand off you before you go to your room don't work. If you request a lakefront room on an upper floor, using luggage carts will be a bit tricky. The elevator drops you off between floors, so you'll have to go up or down a flight of stairs to get to your floor. Oh, and a heads up that the No Smoking signs in the room must be more of a guideline than a rule. We would have enjoyed having our door open on our lakefront room more often, except for the cigarette and marijuana smoke that would drift in from other guests out on their patios....

Yelp
DON'T BOTHER NO ELEVATOR NO FREE BREAKFAST They give you a buy one get one coupon for a Restaurant, Toast to go go, which is a $16 continental breakfast a 1/2 mile away.... And that restaurant is just as rude as the hotel! Must be the same owners! So many other better places to stay in Mackinac city. Hotel was dirty, old, run down, and staff was loud and carrying on in the outside hall ways. No respect for others sleeping. I'm going to stay at the Lamplighter next time I visit mackinaw city. My friend stayed there. It's off the beaten path. The owners are family orientated, have a bonfire every night, and their hotel is immaculate!

Yelp
This room was classified as a 6 person room, should have been stated as a 4 person room.when the hide a bed was opened there was no room to go out to the patio. Only way to do this was to walk across the bed. Dirty is a kind word for this hotel, the corners had stuff growing for a while, the fan in bathroom was so discussing, it had not been cleaned in sometime, just looking at this made you feel dirty. If I could give this rating a zero, I would have. Really do not recommend this hotel, would love to post photos.

Yelp
This hotel wasn't the greatest. The room was clean, there were no bedbugs nothing like that no mold. The only complaints I have the pillows were small, the pool and hot tub was disgusting. The pool isn't supposed to be green and have dirt on the deep end. when I went up to the hot tub and turned on the Jets it got really cloudy and started smelling really bad like dog piss. When I went up and told the front desk. They said "it supposed to look like that. The pool has sand at the bottom because the water is coming from the lake. And you are smiling the chlorine from the hot tub." I was going to go eat some breakfast from this hotel when I came on yelp and saw all these reviews about this hotel I just decided not to eat a granola bar and some fucking yogurt LOL. It's not worth 200 and night. I'm not going to be coming back to this hotel. You would think being on the water that would be a really nice hotel but it's not.

Yelp
Disgusting hotel with cruel and racist front desk staff. I would NEVER stay there again. They were actually talking about people that had checked in right before us as I overheard them calling them "dumb white people". This place is the worst hotel I have ever stayed at! The room was filthy and the way the front desk staff was to people was horrendous. They should be terminated!

Yelp
I'm not sure why the hotel gets bad reviews. We also came out of season, which might have helped. The cost wasn't to high. Knowing the hotel had bad reviews I paid extra attention. We came to Mackinaw City for a four day break. Plus we have a Norwegian foreign exchange student and we wanted to show her northern Michigan. The hotel room was clean and had plentiful towels. The pool area was wonderful as we swam and used the hot tub every day. Their breakfast bar was your average breakfast bar at a hotel. The room was huge and had plenty of seating. We would stay there again.

Yelp
My fiancé and I stopped for the evening in Mackinaw. We had scoped the hotel out online prior to booking due to the positive reviews. Unfortunately our experience was anything but positive. When we arrived at our hotel room 125, it reeked of cigarette smoke, had water damage in the bathroom, the wifi didn't work, and the jacuzzi seemed stained/unclean. Unhappy but with it being too late to find another hotel, we decided to make due and make the best of an unsatisfactory experience. After getting a few drinks and heading back to the hotel, our room key didn't work and we were locked out of the room. We walked up to the check in, got a new room key, walked back to our room, and it failed again still locking us out. Upset about our stay and now having our buzz killed, we got assistance from the front desk and had to change rooms to room 129. Once in the room, our wifi still didn't work so we had no access to the internet for the stay. In the morning the "grab and go breakfast " was a Granola bar, bottle of water, and an apple. The ONLY thing that made this stay bearable was the wonderful lady who worked the front desk. She made sure to check the original room for a failed lock (it was) and set us up with a room that had a working lock. Thank goodness for her. This stay was so awful compared to what we had expected, especially considering what we paid. I would not encourage travelers to come to this location, and I am still waiting to speak to management about our issues. 0/10 experience

Yelp
My boyfriend and I are staying at this hotel over the weekend. We paid a bit more to book a room with a private jacuzzi. We were super excited at first. But be warned the jacuzzi only fills up less than half of the way before you run out of the "hot" water (luke warm at best). But my real problem was the lack of cleanliness. Maybe they are just getting in the Halloween mood but our hotel room is so dusty I swear we might be staying in a haunted house. There are cob webs on literally anything. While we're on the topic of webs, I have one warning for you: spiders. I was lucky enough to share my shower with a Latrodectus that was not more afraid of me than I was of it. We leave tomorrow. This hotel will forever be known to us as 1. The dirtiest hotel we have ever stayed in and 2. The palace of spiders

Yelp
We checked in to what was supposed to be an ADA room. When we got in the room, the sewage had backed up in the sink and on the floor. They gave us a room 4 doors down, but it was so filthy and the mold and mildew was so thick, I was sick within 5 minutes. We had to leave, and they refused to return our money. The furniture is old and ratty. I have reported the hotel to the Michigan Department of health, the Cheboygan County of Health, and the Mackinaw City. This place needs a black mold inspection, and should not be allowed to book clients until it passes health inspections. If I could give this rathole a rating lower than 1, it would be a negative 10. DO NOT GO HERE.

Yelp
If there was a zero to give, they would get it. At check in, was greeted by a lady who hates her job. From there it was down hill. Place is filthy. Has to be run by foreigners. The pic will speak for themselves. The photos are from the breakfast area. Terrible! The rest of the area is no better.

Yelp
Front desk staff was friendly and helpful. Room was clean but outdated. Beds were comfortable but pillows were awful. When looking for a hotel I narrowed my search to hotels with free breakfast. Pictures online show a nice breakfast room with both hot and cold options. What we actually got was warm bottles of water, coffee and granola bars available on a counter in the lobby for grab and go. Next trip to Mackinaw I will stay somewhere else!

Yelp
The overall stay at this hotel was quite disappointing. We were promised a beach view the only got a partial side view with the parking lot of the ferry. The room itself is quite dirty. Upon arrival there were dirty use towels that weren't ours on the door and we had to ask someone to take them. There are no outlets available in the room and the room itself is extremely dirty. The beds were low on sheets and there were spiders in every corner. Along with the dirtiness there was also a terrible smell. It was also very humid in the room and the sheets were almost wet. We overall did not enjoy our stay and would not come here again. For the price we paid we would at least expect a clean room.

Yelp
I'd give zero stars if possible. Initially set up two notes, but called and cancelled second night. Had three families already checked in. Arrived and guy at front desk said we'd already checked in- no that was other family. He rudely then says we cancelled our room. What? Then why am I here? He didn't want to see email one night confirmation he had sent. He was extremely rude and when I became frustrated with his unwillingness to even look at the email,he tells us you cant stay here! Customer service is extremely rude. It's no wonder this place has a low rating on YELP. I found a room at Best Western down the street that was a better room at a cheaper rate, even at last minute booking. Dont waste your time staying at this place that treats customers with disrespect.

Yelp
Front desk staff was rather rude during check in including a guy that appeared to be the manager. We paid an enormous sum for one night in this hotel and I've paid less on Atlantic beach front for two nights. The room wasn't terrible but the rest of the property is in pretty bad repair the landscaping is full of weeds there's bugs and cobwebs everywhere. The pool which we weren't able to use due to no power as well as no indication of what time it's open in the morning, from the windows looked very cloudy and low on water as well as pool towels strung everywhere without being cleaned up. Just keep driving past this one and go down the street and pay half of what you would pay here!

Yelp
The opening day of the reglar NFL season game.. and the satelite TV doesnt work. The beds were also pretty hard. Sort of like sleeping on a blanket on the floor. The floors are also loud if you have someone over you. It was nice and clean though... so that was a plus.
