My boyfriend and I stayed at the Clark Currier Inn for one night this past week and had an incredible stay. The inn offers a perfect blend of comfort, charm, and historic elegance. We stayed in the Hale Room (2 Queen Beds) on the top floor. The room was beautifully appointed with antique-style furnishings. The public areas were charming as well. The Clark Currier Inn itself is a gem—full of character and conveniently located within walking distance to downtown shops, restaurants, and the scenic waterfront. The innkeeper Caitlin was gracious and knowledgeable and provided excellent local recommendations. We highly recommend and will definitely return on future visits to the area.

Things to like but also lots needing improvement. On the plus side-easy check in process, great location, adequate street parking if designated parking on site is full. Room clean and mostly comfortable, if dated-not referring to the interesting and beautiful antique or period art and furnishings, but to the linens and furniture in the room. Nicely refurbished bathrooms/showers with quality Molton Brown bath/shower products provided. Continental breakfast consists of boxed cereal in containers, bagels/English muffins, a large bowl of fruit salad and Shaw's supermarket baked items (I was shown the box), best cold item was definitely the vanilla bean yogurt adorned with a few fresh berries. Daily hot items (fritattas) were homemade and very tasty, but both contained meat and there were no meatless hot alternatives. Sign posted about letting them know about allergies but nut containing breads/muffins all displayed on same plate as the one nut free option. Dining room seating very tight. Quite self-serve as there is no real presence of an innkeeper; kitchen help in the mornings let people know she wanted everyone out by 11 because she "starts going into the rooms then and (she) wasn't staying late". (Probably just youth speaking rather than unpleasantness but pretty unprofessional.) Minimal baked snack left out for the afternoon-tiny cookies that were okay, made on site. For the price, there are likely better options in the Newburyport area worth exploring. Wouldn't decline to stay again but wouldn't necessarily choose it. Frankly, the star of the show is the building itself-very beautiful architecture with gracious lines and design inside.

I had a lovely stay over Memorial Day weekend. The location is perfect for walking into town within minutes. It’s also down a couple of blocks from the clipper rail trail which is a path for walking, biking and running. What I love about inns is the kind of hospitality you experience different than a hotel. It’s more personal and warm. It was definitely true here. Plenty of chocolates to take on the way in and out as well as good breakfast every morning. There’s the typical offerings like yogurt and fruit but there’s also a frittata which was delicious. The room I had was in the top floor (my choice) and had low ceilings and a little dark, which was fine as there were three windows. On the floor a couple of nails were sticking up (very old plank floors) so I put pieces of paper on them so I had a visual cue not to step on them. I presume this is the nature of such old floors and hopefully they took care of them when I left. The room can be a touch stuffy, as you can’t open the windows and there’s no ceiling fan. Otherwise, it was a good stay that was comfortable enough and suited my needs.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about this Inn! It is one of my favorite places to stay. We recently went with our four adult children and their partners for a weekend away. The location is so convenient and the rooms are extremely comfortable. The breakfasts were delicious with many options and a cozy room to enjoy dining. We spent time playing board games one night in the common space. Caitlin is wonderful and was so helpful in planning our trip. It truly felt like a home away from home and a great place to make family memories. We will most definitely be back!

The best part of my stay: Retail shops, restaurants, cafe's - all within walking distance; a bit of history at the inn, and the old fashion taste to it. And coming to Newburyport is a great weekend getaway experience.|Quality of the room: excellent; service: excellent too(I like that there's a private bath; iron, toiletries, two chairs, and the housekeeping staff).|What I'd change or improve: adding more to the breakfast: eggs(over easy/scrambled); more meats(bacon, ham, sausage), but even without it, I'll still come to the Clark Currier Inn - and will be coming again, in October 2025. You're the best!👍

As always, a wonderful experience! This is our favorite place to stay when we visit our family. Lovely innkeepers, comfortable beds, and an enchanting inn! Breakfast is always delicious. This trip involved extended family and it was nice to be able to sit by the fireplace and chat!

Google
We had a lovely stay at the Inn. It is very clean and wonderful staff. We enjoyed our breakfast, especially the good coffee! There were chocolate chip cookies available for snacking around the clock.|Be aware that it is an old building and they have tried to keep the environment simple, but we don't think there was anything missing.

We stayed for 4 nights. Caitlin, the Inn Keeper was amazing and super sweet. She had breakfast ready every morning, coffee, cookies, candy, and sherry out the entire day and ensured we had a comfortable stay. We stayed in the Noyes room. It was perfectly cozy and warm on the rainy and windy night and brought in natural light during the warmer weather. Also- could not have been a better location. A 2 minute walk to the downtown area with shops and restaurants. Would stay again any time!

Yelp
Outstanding Place to Stay! It is a beautiful very well maintained historic home, with an amazingly accommodating host. The breakfast was great, the location perfect, and with such a great host it made for a wonderful long weekend stay. I would definitely go back!

Yelp
This was our second stay and both were exceptional. If your trip includes a stop in Newberryport the Clark Currier is the place to stay.

Yelp
Very nice old inn. , early 1800's. Price is good for the area. Customer service is very good and helpful. Parking is only issue that doesn't get 5 stars.

Yelp
Wonderful experience, Highly Recommend. The house, room and grounds were beautiful. The family on site was delightful and so friendly. All covid accommodations were nicely handled, and everything felt safe and clean. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
This inn is something truly special. Built at the beginning of the 1800s, It's like going back in time but with modern amenities. The furniture and decorations have preserved the look and feel of that time. They are very accommodating to late check-ins, have their own dedicated parking spots, and had even personalized a welcome package for us that was bought with our reservation. These personal touches made us feel right at home. And the innkeeper assured us it was not haunted! They were very friendly and helpful, and it was fun to poke around and look at all the different rooms. I would recommend checking out the you tube video for a little history about the inn. I would stay here every time!

Yelp
We just stayed one night here but the entire experience was very impressive. This old (1802) New England house is wonderfully decorated as well as being convenient to all of Newburyport. We made our reservation late and got the last available room. It was perfect...perfectly clean (and I mean that sincerely), well appointed with a private balcony and entrance. In an old inn, a frequent problem is the bathroom. Not here. It was modern, everything worked great. Because of Covid-19, breakfast could not be served in a common room so the inn left us with a menu to choose from and the continental breakfast was delivered, on time, to our room. It was very good and very extensive. A holiday weekend thus holiday rates but if you are going to be in Newburyport, stay here.

Yelp
Before heading to Gloucester for a wedding my wife and I stayed in Newburyport for a couple of days. We always wanted to stay at a B&B there and picked this place based on the Yelp reviews. We've appreciated the cleanness of the place but also how friendly the inn keeper and his staff are. A huge plus was the parking in the back. Something you don't want to miss in this town. The collection of old historical nightgowns at the wall was kind of creepy at first but was simply part of the theme of the Sargent room. The entire house is decorated with a collection of antiques and gives the inn a very special charm. At first it was weird to have no TV in the room but at the end we didn't really spend too much in it anyway. And if we did it was a good opportunity to read a book. I only wished the bed (mattress) wasn't that outdated. I wish I could rate it 5 stars but for that it was just to pricey.

Yelp
Incredible little bed and breakfast! Had a lovely time here with my girlfriend. Great location that makes it very easy to walk everywhere you'll want to go. Room was quite clean and the place had a lovely charm, with quite a few common spaces (and freshly baked cookies). Breakfast was delicious as well. Would love to stay here again

Darlene F.

Yelp
Absolutely beautiful place. Very well maintained historic inn. The inn keepers were wonderful. Great service and yummy breakfast. Quick 5 minute walk to downtown. Hoping to make it an annual visit.

Elana L.

Yelp
Haven't been here in 3 years. The new owners have improved upon the Inn. We loved our room, and the 'continental' breakfast was so much more. I took photos this time to show you how lovely the place really is. Highly highly recommend!

Maria N.

Yelp
Location was great as you could easily walk to town. Stayed at the Marquand room, which was small, but well organized and clean. Bathroom tiny but well equipped and adequate. There is a nice deck with a private entrance on the other side of the room. You can sit outside on the provided table and chairs with umbrella overlooking a nice garden. There are plenty of rooms throughout the inn where you can hang out and feel somewhat private. Staff were casual and not really present all of the time. Breakfast is not what you would expect for an Inn, but if you are fine with sub standard coffee, fruit and frozen baked goods then all you. Service is only available between 7:30ish to 9:30am. Parking is limited. We went out and came back to a very full lot. Thank goodness we found on street parking near by.

Yelp
I got a chance to stay at this classic property in Newburyport for a few days and I have only one thing to say 'Amazing'. These guys are awesome hosts and made sure that guests are comfortable during entire stay. They serve wholesome breakfast every morning which is one of the best I've seen at any hotel! It truly felt like a home away from home! Thanks

Yelp
There are very few places where the innkeeper still lives within the B&B and takes care of the entire facility on a daily basis, and takes his time to tell guests of the history surrounding the area. I happen to love this kind of stuff and was pleasantly surprised and pleased when our innkeeper proceeded to give us history about the Clark Currier house as he checked us in. My boyfriend and I stayed in the Sargent Room - one of the least expensive rooms in the entire B&B, but also had enough space for the two of us. The room contained a full sized bed and two smaller twin-sized beds (presumably for children), as well as a large bathroom. I wish we had more time to explore the inn itself - we were barely in our room for more than 6 hours each evening (we were in Newburyport for wedding festivities for a good friend). We had a great experience - Bob was a great host and the fact that there were peppermint patties and bottled water available to us each evening added to the charm and comfort at this B&B. I'm looking forward to returning over the summer.

Fran C.

Yelp
I might have given this B&B a 4 star because we enjoyed our room very much. It had its own entrance and a view of the garden. The bathroom though small was very adequate. Also, the room itself was clean and comfortable. That said, the common areas though lovely, are in need of a good dusting. And the "breakfast " was very substandard for a B&B. We were served raisin bran and canned peaches. There was also an off brand of low fat yogurt, a couple of bacon strips, a lonely sausage, and orange juice and coffee /tea. For the advertised tea, we got just tea, nothing else. All and all, there were clear signs of scrimping and a less than excellent experience.

Lisa H.

Yelp
Beautiful B&B in the heart of town. Rooms reflect a gentle period in American history. Our room was clean and comfortable with a romantic 4 post bed. Inn has many rooms for reading or visiting with other guests. Innkeepers were Friendly and obviously enjoy their work Will stay again

Yelp
I couldn't think of a better place to spend a weekend in Newburyport. Amazing inn in the heart of town. The rooms are fantastic, and the location is perfect! Walking distance from downtown, which includes great shops and restaurants! The owner was here when we arrived and is from my hometown. He was extremely welcoming and very kind/ excited to have us as guests in his inn. The common areas are historic and spacious, as are the private rooms. Can't wait to return!

Yelp
We had a wonderful stay at this b&b for my wife's birthday over the weekend, with top of the line, very accommodating and sincere service from Caitlin, and also from Abby. Both women went above and beyond our expectations. As other reviews will attest, the room was fantastic and the Inn itself is very homelike, warm, and inviting. It represents the town of Newburyport perfectly, and indeed is an integral part of the local atmosphere. We couldn't recommend it more highly.

Sara M.

Yelp
We had a wonderful stay at the Clark Currier. Caitlin was so friendly and welcoming, and her breakfasts were great. The house itself is beautiful and there is a small bar fridge for guests to store food/wine. The room was comfortable, however the bathroom was a bit small. We were walking distance to downtown and will stay there again the next time we are in town.

Yelp
Note: the rating is based mostly on our customer service experience here. The inn itself: pretty, well maintained, clean, but no shampoo in the bathrooms so be sure to bring your own as we were running to CVS to pick some up. My boyfriend and I were locked out of the inn on the second night of our stay by a guest or someone who deadbolted the back door (to which guests are not given a key). It was after midnight, and we spent over an hour outside banging on the door, calling a number that led to nowhere, and ringing the doorbell. A sleepy guest finally let us in at about 1:30 in the morning (this is AFTER we drove to the sister inn, the compass rose, and after contemplating driving back to Boston at 1:30 in the morning) Left a message on the voicemail and no one even returned our call to make sure we were able to get into the Inn ok at the end of the night or to apologize the next day. To make matters worse, when I addressed the issue with the innkeeper the next morning (starting the conversation by indicating that I knew it wasn't her fault this happened), she proceeded to make us feel like the whole ordeal was a result of our own doing. There is an emergency number (different to the number listed outside and on the website) placed on a tiny laminated piece of paper in the guest room that they "expect guests to take a picture of on their phones." 1. this is absolutely ridiculous 2. emergency numbers should be posted somewhere accessible 3. there should be a note telling people not to turn the deadbolt 4. you don't blame the guest for something that isn't their fault She also complained about her 24/7 job and that she never gets a break. I suggested placing this number somewhere accessible and putting a sign on the door that guests are supposed to enter into at night telling people NOT to turn the deadbolt. How they hadn't thought of this already is beyond me. We ended up getting a night refunded (thankfully) which was the only redeeming quality of this stay on a wedding weekend which essentially ruined the last night of the trip. To make matters worse, my close friend (the bride and her entire family) occupied the entire sister inn, The Compass Rose, and when the innkeeper was over there after our conversation she proceeded to say that I was nasty to her (which wasn't the case). She also complained to them about basically "working for free" the whole weekend and I'm not sure why she feels it's her right to complain to customers about her choice of occupation. Terrible customer service, Innkeeper needs a serious lesson in hospitality. While the Inn is pretty, I would never recommend staying here based on the treatment we received due to something that was in no way our fault and due to a lack of foresight on the owner and innkeeper's part. Although we were refunded the second night's stay, the whole experience was ruined overall by the innkeeper's attitude problem.

Yelp
The Clark Currier is falsely advertised as a bed & breakfast. "Breakfast" is the cheapest pseudo-food available (see picture), which they put out for guests to get themselves. There's a Keurig machine for coffee--no cappuccino, cafe latte, or fresh brew. The room reeks of mold, bleach, and air freshener. The owners live in a separate house, of which I'm sure they take much better care, and are in the "inn" only from 3 to 5 for check-in. I finally found the TV remote deep under the bed. I had to use my umbrella (which I brought, because the owners don't provide any) to swat it to where I could reach it. The bed is $195+tax per night. I was staying in a real B&B (Kaeda Inn) in Ipswich, in which the hosts/owners live and care for the B&B, were always available, and made a wonderful breakfast, which is what a B&B is. Kaeda was $115 per night. I should have stayed in Ipswich and taken the train daily to Newburyport (short trip, second stop, $3.50). Additionally, the owner is holding me hostage, because I booked four nights, she won't let me check out without paying for all four nights in this deplorable place. I took pictures of the moldy blinds, the wire hangers in the closet (that should be returned to the dry cleaners), "breakfast", and the remote under the bed, because it's too appalling and deceitful to believe without photographic evidence. Also, when I booked the room, the owner said Salisbury didn't have places closer to the library. Now that I'm here, I see that is false and Newburyport and Salisbury offer better lodging options, and that staying in Ipswich and taking the train is preferable to staying at the Clark Currier. It's like a bad AirBnB but outrageously overpriced for what it is.

Yelp
Wonderful historic spot with very friendly hosts and lots of fun extra suprises. Simple but excellent breakfast included. A great experience, highly recommended!

Yelp
I am a resident of Newburyport and have hosted guests at the Clark Currier Inn for 8+ year (well over 100 nights booked) - but ownership changed and new management means I will never have guests there again. 1. Previous owners allowed dogs to come in the lobby area to greet guests etc - I came the day before I was having guests (15 nights!) and was told by the innkeeper, Gloria, very rudely, to tie my service dog outside before I paid the entire bill (for the management's convenience!) I was speechless. I then said I wanted to cancel and would forfeit my deposit but was told I could not. (still want to investigate that - so angry I didn't just turn and walk out then). And despite buying 3 rooms for 5 nights, I was not invited to join my guests for breakfast as I had been in the past. I brought my guests in late at night and found the keys - but no note on arrival - no idea about breakfast hours, etc. Took guests up to rooms - and the Marquand Room HAD A VACCUUM CLEANER strewn across the floor! When brought up to management the next day, it was met with a little laugh and I was told how busy and tired they were. No apology, offer of discount... my guests were very nice about it but all week, anytime the husband found a mop or broom, he would have a picture taken with it - became a running joke and he was trying to make me feel better but it didn't work. One of my guests told me the next day that she overhead the staff on the phone with I suppose, Gloria, the innkeeper, "no the dog has not come back" and several times during the stay. My message to Gloria --- don't worry - the dog and none of my guests will ever return. When I booked the rooms and later confirmed by email with the new owners/innkeeper (Gloria), I was NOT told that there would be significant construction going on at the inn. and it started VERY EARLY for travelers/vacationers. One of my guests complained and they did start the noisy stuff later the next day but.... had I known, would have given my 6 guests a choice of other accommodations. Then, finally, there was an incident, believed to be construction-related, when Gloria knocked on the door of the Clark Room where one of my guests was resting. "Are you in there?" - YES. "Are you resting?" - YES. "Are you in bed?" - YES! "Ok, then we will come back later" - WHAT THE HECK??? The one shining light of the week - all 6 of my guests said Linda was lovely and helpful - the true shining star of what *was* a great B&B I will be welcoming a large party of guest this weekend for a total of 21 nights - you can be certain not a one will be at the Clark Currier or the sister site of Compass Rose. Further, no attempt to apologize or make amends has been made a full month after this mess.

Ashley M.

Yelp
I have always measured the value of a bed and breakfast not by the pattern of the bedspread or the books in the sitting room, but by the friendly staff that welcome you in to their home as guests. If this is rubric, than the Clark Currier Inn is second-to-none. Bob and his daughter are some of the warmest, friendliest, most inviting and helpful people you will ever meet, not to mention gracious hosts. I recently attended a family reunion for which we rented out the entirety of the Inn. The rooms were warm, comfortable and gorgeous, and the entire house was immaculately kept. Bob was gracious enough to go beyond the call of duty and allow us the use of the space for two dinner parties, including a full-fledged New England Clam Bake, on the property as well. Just steps from the heart of downtown Newburyport and the beach, as well as minutes from Plum Island, the Clark Currier is the perfect place for a weekend getaway, a beach getaway, or a grandiose large-scale gathering.

Yelp
Really nice place. Stayed in Marquand room. Had our own deck with our own entrance. Caitlyn, our host, was friendly and helpful. Walking distance to everything in Newburyport and the breakfast was great (blueberry lemon muffins. Do it!). Highly recommend this place.

Jackie W.

Yelp
My two friends & I went to Newburyport for a girls weekend last fall and stayed there. Every room was beautiful the staff very friendly and helpful the breakfast amazing. We will definitely go back.

Christina W.

Yelp
The Clark Currier Inn was an excellent place to stay. I would refer this Inn to anyone who was searching for a quaint and pleasant place to lodge for a night or two, or maybe even the entire week. The Inn-keepers were extremely hospitable and delightful to be around who give you your space but are there for you if necessary. I stayed in the downstairs suite which was very nice because I had two bathrooms and a sitting room with a TV and sofa to relax. I also had my own side door which lead to a private balcony outside. The room and entire Inn was extremely clean, with a cleaning service that came each day to tidy up your room once you stepped out for the day. The Inn was also in very close proximities to downtown Newburyport including: nightlife, restaurants, shopping, the harbor, and more. The rates were suitable for the type of accommodations that came with the Inn. I would highly consider staying here to anyone who enjoys a relaxing and quite place to unwind and enjoy.
