Clarkes Hotel

This is a delightful historic hotel ideal for exploring old town Shimla. As an Oberoi property, it may not be at the luxury level of others in the chain, but that also makes it reasonably priced. (And note this may change as hotel is currently closed for major renovation). I was so very impressed with the service: Hot water bottles are a delightful touch to warm the beds on winter nights there (something I have never been offered at other hotels); when my daughter experienced a racing heartrate from altitude sickness, they brought in a blood pressure test to check; and finally all staff seemed to remember our names flawlessly. The comfort food was delicious. I cannot say enough good things about the staff and the property.

Th location is perfect and it gives you that heritage vibes as soon as you enter the hotel. Rooms are good, but lack of central heating means you need to keep the room warm with electric heaters. The restaurant has a nice view and the food served was delicious. The only real con I noticed is the limited parking space and long stairs you need to take from parking to the hotel.

This hotel provides you with everything you would ask for ......... quality accommodation, excellent service from friendly, highly professional staff combined with wonderful food. This Heritage property plays its part in the history of Shimla over the years. Well appointed large rooms with character.|The Hotel is well located on the Mall Road and a short walk, albeit uphill, from The Ridge and all of Shimla's sights.|The restaurant provides a welcome retreat from the biz of the Mall and Ridge ........ wonderful service provided by all staff and overseen by Sous Chef Rajkumar. Breakfast is a great start to your day sightseeing and the evening meal is excellent selection to meet all palates.|Hopefully we will revisit Shimla at some point and The Clarkes Hotel will definitely be our preferred stopover.

Beautiful heritage hotel with excellent ambiance throughout the property. We were upgraded to a bigger room with beautiful drapery and nice views. Comfort- 10/10 (especially the bed and pillows!) Bath/shower- 10/10 (hot water and pressure were amazing) Amenities- 9/10 (hygiene products were great but expecting a little something special for the price and quality of the hotel, like a bath robe or fine chocolates or something) Heater provided which made our stay much more comfortable even in October. Staff was very friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. Food is expensive but presentation and taste exceeded our expectations. So delicious! You get what you pay for. Getting to the hotel was a little confusing at first, but once inside we were greeted with their specialty apple cinnamon tea. Overall: expensive luxury treat for special occasions, but worth the stay!

It's an amazing old heritage style hotel, very calm and nice property. Best part is the location situated very much on the mall road and you can get good views of shimla from hotel. Only con is rooms are bit expensive based on size of room. But rooms and hotel is completely carpeted and staff is very polite and always ready to help. Breakfast buffet is very good

the service and the food and the love that we received at the clarkes was absolutely outstanding and something that we will never forget the rest of our lives. it was an overwhelming and emotional experience especially the send off that we were given being the last guests of the hotel before they shut down for rennovation after 125 years. Chef Bhatia food was the next level and the best I have had.

Customer service exemplary!! All the staff without exception have been trained such high standards. We felt overwhelmed with their attentive service and caring attitude. They tried helping me to sort out my mobile phone, made recommendations for exploring Shimla and the Mall Road, gave advice on taxis prices, supply hot water bottles at night. Our luggage was carried up several flights of stairs and we were welcomed with a delightful warm ginger/lemon drink. Breakfast was fantastic with all the usual buffet options, fresh cafetiere coffee and attentive waiting staff. Absolutely worth 750 rps plus tax. Cocktails in the bar made perfectly. We definitely enjoyed our stay and would recommend fabulous heritage hotel. Thank you to all the staff and management.

Oberoi hotel can never let you down when it comes to service. Everything was properly taken care of. We ordered hot milk and it was delivered in no time. The reception, the housekeeping, in room dining all were very courteous. Hotel is old but doesn't make you feel that way. Everything was awesome. Location is also very handy. Right on Mall road near some nice cafes. The ridge is a 5min walk.
