Clark's Bar

Clark's Bar, as a proper pub welcoming locals and new patrons/ friends is back! (We can now forget / ignore the previous 6 years when the management were 'playing' - badly - at running a pub.) Service is welcoming & efficient, and range of drinks is good. Atmosphere is good and tunes are excellent. Dogs welcomed back too! Clark's bar was an institution - a bit like Heathrow - everyone would pass through at least once. The local community embraced it, visitors loved it, new friends were made & sometimes mourned. When it succumbed to previous management, the community lost a meeting spot. But within days of opening, Murray and his team have restored the place to its proper position. Old faces returning, embracing and enjoying having a good pub to frequent again!

A large group of us dropped in on a Friday tea time. without notice and they couldn't have been more accommodating. They gave us a back room to ourselves, lit candles and offered table service for the drinks. Very much appreciated, thank you!!

Great to see the old style Clarks back. Under new owership, they have done a great job bringing it back. The service and staff were excellent. Opening night was fantastic lots of the old locals along with new faces. The place was vibrant and full of energy and fun. Happy days.

Nice to see clarkes bar back as a proper pub, nice long bar that you can sit or stand at, as well as a couple of more private rooms, and plenty of seating. A good range of cider in the fridge and thistly cross on tap along with magners. Good music too.

Recently reopened by Murray and team. Old fashioned in a good way. Excellent German beers and eclectic playlists. You'll like it.

Thriving under new management! It was lovely to spend Friday evening in a proper pub with a great atmosphere and excellent staff.

Great old school boozer with a good range of craft beers, wines and cocktails. Traditional features throughout the bar add the the vibe and staff are friendly. Shows Sky Sports, which is a bonus. Perfect place for an after work drink or casual Sunday. They also serve pizzas from Ramsay's Street Pizza round the corner

Being a fair distance off the beaten track for tourists and far enough away from the main student areas of town, Clars Bar attracts a large contingency of local residents rather than tourists or students. Me and my flatmates came here after signing our lease for our flat at DJ Alexander just down the road. The place had quite a nice appearance about it with lots of wood wherever you looked and seemed quite cosy and the clientelle seemed really friendly as did the staff. There were lots of drinks on tap including several real ales. It would be good to come here to watch a football or rugby match as I could imagine the atmosphere would get pretty intense in here. If I was more local to here I would definitely come more often.

The last time I'd been in here for a drink the smoking ban was but a myth, which is probably why I was unaware of the two pleasant rooms the bar has at its rear (or where the toilets, with their muraled stairway, are). The main bar has nothing wrong with it although having another one or two real ales on would suit me personally but the rooms at the back afford the whole place an extra dimension. The brass tabletops are well maintained and polished and the room we occupied for a while last night has its own tv so would be an ideal spot for a group to congregate to catch match coverage. Not forgetting either the collection of St. Bernard's FC (Scottish Cup winners in 1895) memorabilia that's on display. All in a great local bar that I'll aim to patronise more often.

Superb local bar. It really is a true local. Don't be intimidated by this as they all seem pretty friendly and you are in the affluent new town / stockbridge area. The decor is very traditional and this is one of it's main attractions. Lots of wood, leather and brass. I can imagine nothing much has changed for decades. I don't go there as often as I would like but look forward to popping in when I'm in the area. It is a good place to watch sport and they will even change the channel if there is something more interesting on the other side. There are also 2 small rooms at the back which are ideal if going in with a group of frields.

Visiting Edinburgh and staying around the corner at the Dene Guesthouse. Stopped in for pre-dinner drinks a couple times. Fantastic and friendly service, eclectic clientele. Highly recommend.

Fun, young crowd. Great band last night. Lots of drunken dancing which made for great people watching.

Traditional pub that gets a good cross section of customers, Normallg gets busy when the offices comes out but quietens down later on.
