Several years ago, when we were organising our second trip to Burma/Myanmar, we looked for somewhere smaller and quieter to stay than the 'grand' hotels of our first trip. My wife found the Classique in Tripadvisor and thought that it was more 'us'. How right she was. We have since stayed there on four more trips at the beginning and end of our travelling around the country and sometimes in the middle too. It is quiet and doesn't have all the facilities of the larger hotels, but it has become our haven of peace and tranquility whilst staying in Yangon. For example, on this trip, there cannot have been many other places in Yangon, where you woke up to the call of the Asian Koel and the repetitive tonk of the Coppersmith Barbet. Thanks to its location and the care of Kalya Aye and her staff, we feel a great sense of relief and contentment when we come up the drive. Lush vegetation surrounds you when you sit on the terrace eating breakfast (try the delicious Burmese options), or enjoying a cold Myanmar beer. There are also more restaurants now within walking distance than when we first stayed. Some people may consider it dark and 'old-fashioned', but we happen to like teak furniture and decorations. Wifi is now working throughout. We will definitely return when back in Yangon.
