Where to Shop in Lisbon for Books, Tinned Fish, and More

"A heritage beauty brand known for its art nouveau packaging, offering soaps, colognes, and a barbershop with Musgo Real products."

"One of Portugal’s oldest cosmetics companies, Claus Porto cemented a major comeback after Lisbon’s coolest store, A Vida Portuguesa, began carrying its products. In 2016, the company opened its own boutique in the trendy Chiado district, offering even more access to its eye-catching inventory. Packaged in art deco– and Belle Époque–style cases, the signature products look supremely cool as bed-and-bath decor. Of course, you could also buy the soaps, lotions, and shave creams for actual use. As an extra incentive, on Saturdays, men who spend more than €50 (around $60) receive an old-school hot shave in the barbershop at the store."

Shopping in Lisbon: Our Favorite Boutiques for Handmade Soap, Linens, and Hats | Condé Nast Traveler

"Last year this venerable Portuguese luxury label opened its second Lisbon shop (and fourth globally), in a historic Pombaline house in the central Baixa district. It carries much of the same inventory as previous locations: sweet-smelling soap-on-a-rope and basil-scented candles wrapped in heritage Art Deco-patterned containers, but the new jewel box of a store offers special services like allowing shoppers to design their packaging."

The store itself is very beautiful and the fragrances are sophisticated and well blended. Sadly, we purchased two fragrances and the bottle/pump were defective on both. My partner purchased a Musgo Real fragrance at €90 and the bulb sprayer malfunctioned almost immediately. The store exchanged it without a problem but on returning home to the UK we found that the replacement was also broken. I purchased a travel size of Cologne no 4. When I opened it up it had leaked in my backpack and there was only a couple of ml left. Sad for a beautiful heritage brand to have such poor fabrication. I would expect functionality at this price point.

One of the best shops I’ve been to in Lisboa. I just wish I didn’t spend all my money in Barcelona so I could buy more here in this shop. The staff was so nice to me, he didn’t treat me as another dumb tourist and I actually feel respected as everyone should when they go into a shop. If it weren’t for the weight, I’d love to buy candles. They smell so nice and after using scented candles for many years, I can spot a real quality one when I see it and sniff it. They make wonderful candles. I definitely recommend this shop 💗💗💗

Went here to buy some gift. The staff was helpful, explained to us their products, their lines, their best sellers. We were surprised of our own choice but everything they have in the store smells amazing! The candles and the body products were so tempting, unfortunately we can’t buy it bc we had to fly back and theres ofc limitations for weights & liquids. I recommend this place for anyone looking for souvenirs from Portugal

This is the main flagship store/museum by Claus Porto and it shows its history from when it started as Claus & Schweder to later dropping the 2nd name. Very interesting and very nice products. Totally recommend anyone who likes this kind of products to come visit and they them out.

Old school perfumery with great, eclectic choices. Different to all the high street brands and refreshingly simple and classy.

Beautiful shop, stocking locally produced high quality, soaps, perfumes and candles. My partner and I purchased some beautiful scents to travel with. The soap packaging was so well done. Like artwork. Go visit if you walk past.

Yelp
Yay! This place smells amazing and you'll want to purchase everything. I'm in love with the 'lettuce' soap in particular. The soaps are handmade and they make the perfect souvenir and gift. The lather is really creamy and makes your skin feel amazing. The staff are super friendly and helpful. There are a few discontinued scents (that they have displayed in a jar on the checkout counter) that we fell in love with. The sweet staff told us that we could find them at A Vida Portuguesa.

Yelp
I left my dumb soapdish at the hotel in Germany, & even though this place looks a little high-end from the outside, the staff couldn't have been friendlier, & the soap is just fantastic. Great texture, pronounced & interesting scents, perfect for gifts & souvenirs too. My favorite one was The Elite. :-] CR

Yelp
This store is incredible. First, it's absolutely beautiful. Everything about the soaps are handmade and they are displayed like rings in a jewelry store. Second, there are so many fragrances that you can find the one that will work best for you and the guests for whom you're buying. Last, the staff here is extraordinarily knowledgeable and spent an inordinate amount of time with me walking me through the store, going through the soaps, and packaging everything for me at the end. I've always believed that high-end soaps are the perfect pieces of small luxury - for a nominal price, you get a real sense of pampering and true luxury. Looking forward to using my new soaps soon!

Yelp
What a beautiful place. Extraordinarily friendly and helpful service and something for everyone who likes soaps, scents, and luxurious body products. Totally worth the trip, even if you don't buy anything...but you will.

Yelp
If I could give zero star I would. I purchased about close to $100 worth of products and they gave me the tax refund receipt to claim. It went downhill from there. At the city center there is a place where you can get the tax refund back. It is better to do it here compared to at the airport. When I got to a place to get my tax refund the person at the front desk informed me that the receipt wasn't good. It is missing the barcode. I will have to go back to the store to have them reprint it. I went back and they informed me no it is ok, have them scan the bottom code. I went back to the tax refund place. If you ever walk between the store and the tax refund location, you will know there are tons of stairs way to get to it. It is not a straight walk. Up and down the stairs. When I got to the tax refund global blue place, I was informed that the store gave me the wrong information. There is only one machine that can scan the code and it is the top part of the section ( both at the location here and at the airport). The airport will reject the receipt as well. So I went back to the store and informed them. I had my google translate out to make sure they understand that their machine needs to print the barcode at the top. They kept insisting the bottom barcode is fine. The representative from the global blue told me that isn't true. I had to ask them to call to check with the global blue. They should have done it prior to having me going back and forth. They couldn't get the bar code to print at all. I asked the lady wearing black sweater if I could just get equivalent of the money I would be getting as a refund in a product. She said no. After having me going back and forth and knowing their machine wasn't working properly, they should at least accommodate. They kept insisting the receipt will be fine at the airport. If the receipt isn't fine here when I could see the representative at the global blue I don't see why it would work at the airport. I finally decided it isn't worth it. They wasted so much of my time. I returned the products. They rather have the customer who is purchasing products to return and waste the vacation time then try to accommodate. The store representatives informed me that it was internal global blue system that is down. I don't feel like telling them at that point, it is from their end. When I went back to the global blue at the city center I asked the representative and he informed me no, he had been refunding people. I saw 2 people in front of me with receipts with perfectly fine barcode at the top. He even show me what the full bar code on the receipts look like. I expected more from the store. It was never issue with the receipts getting refunds from not even a brand name stores. At the end they gave me very tiny soap. Come on.. I didn't even get any gift when purchasing products. They wouldn't even accommodate if I were to get something equivalent of the refund. They finally cough up tiny small size soap that will dissolve within about 2 uses at the end. They wasted over an hour of my time. I expected more from the well known brand to accommodate or at least have the issue resolved faster.
