Google
Great atmosphere and prompt service. Delicious appetizers, main courses, and desserts! Highly recommend.

Google
We've been going here for years. Everything was great tonight. Our server was very attentive, offered some suggestions, answered some questions and made sure our dinner was perfect. We had a shrimp burger, crab cake sandwich with some bisque, and chicken tenders. Everyone was quite satisfied. I opted for the veggie medley instead of fries and was impressed. Not overcooked and excellent with a lemony hint of flavor. I could have eaten another bowl....

Google
While vacationing in Beaufort, we were able to visit Clawson's first for dinner and the atmosphere, food and service was the best. The atmosphere and environment of this historic place compliments this beautiful cozy town. Both the food selection and the taste were excellent with something for everyone. We enjoyed it so much that a couple of days later we decided to go back for lunch and once again our expectations were met and exceeded with exceptional service and food. If you're in this area you need to stop and take in the ambiance / food and you won't be disappointed.

Google
Popular restaurant with a lot of food options. We enjoyed our seafood dishes - the fried oysters are great in season. The salad sides were satisfying, along with the cheesy grits. Service is quick and check in often.

Heather Shambley

Google
The best mahi-mahi ever. We had “Wayne” as our server and she was so kind. Offered information about items on the menu, and drinks. My husband and I truly felt like we had amazing service, and amazing food.

Google
This place is nostalgic. It smells like a part of history. Everything from the staff to the atmosphere to the food is fantastic

Google
We had such a nice time eating at Clawson's restaurant. The building itself is beautiful! Its an old building with original wood features and floors, and exposed brick walls. Great atmosphere and charm! The staff is super friendly, our waitress was great. The food was delicious! We had breaded fish, french fries, burgers, Mac and cheese and everything was cooked perfectly. Prices are very reasonable too. Overall we loved it, highly recommend!

Google
Outstanding First Visit to Clawson’s 1905 Restaurant & Pub! This was our first time dining at Clawson’s, and it absolutely won us over. The historic setting is full of character, and the service was second to none. Heather, our server, was fantastic—friendly, professional, and incredibly helpful with recommendations (which were spot-on!). She made us feel welcome from the moment we sat down. The food? Hot, fresh, and delicious. You can really taste the quality and care in every dish. We’ll definitely be back—Clawson’s is now a must-visit every time we’re in the area. Highly recommend!

Ivy B.

Yelp
One of my favorite places when I venture to Beaufort! Definitely a good meal! Service was on point as well.

Penney D.

Yelp
Had the fish and chips--huge portions! Enjoyed the margaritas with cider and brown sugar on glass rim. Service was good, but admittedly, we were there way off-season. Ambiance was wooden and old-timey.

Sarah W.

Yelp
Loved the old building and the feel! We had a great waitress and amazing huge fresh fish and chips!

Chelsea H.

Yelp
Man, we keep coming back and getting let down. Service wasn't quite as great this time and the food we ordered (scampi and shrimp and grits) was just not very impressive. We would not order it again. Some of my family tried some of the apps and did enjoy those, especially the cheese fries. We probably will just stick to fried shrimp if we come back.

Ted D.

Yelp
Went for some heavy snacks at lunchtime. We hit the Server Lottery! Deb was super friendly, chatty, knowledgeable about the menu and really, really took good care of us (as we did of her). Located in a historic building with a great interior and vibe. We had the hot crab dip and the fried calamari. Both were generous portions and very good! Although the calamari only come with a remoulade sauce Deb also brough two other sauces she thought we would like (and she was correct - all good). Deb also recommended the down east style clam chowder but I was too full - so without asking she brought out a sample for me. It was great and well worth a try! Don't miss this great spot right on Front Street and across from the riverwalk. ASK FOR DEB!!! You won't be sorry.

John S.

Yelp
Shrimp and grits were beyond amazing and the ipa was really good. Fish was good but a tad too greasy for me. However, the tartar sauce is the best I've ever had.

Aimee M.

Yelp
Used to be clawsons a place for ribs. Old time place has now gone seafood, like all the other places around! Always went for ribs. No one had any idea! Food was good, but like every other place

Laura S.

Yelp
We love Clawsons. Honestly you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. I decided to change it up this time and got the crab cakes with cheese grits and the veggies. Might just be my new favorite. I will say it was a little spicy but definitely didn't mind it. Kyle was out waiter and he was awesome! Love it how they kept the old feel to the building that was once a grocery store.

Tarhy A.

Yelp
We love coming here when we visit Beaufort. The service is outstanding, the food is good, and their menu is robust. Signature cocktails are fun and tasty. It's a family style environment with the bar being a separate area. I've had a few things here and their fried chicken sandwich was good. Their burgers are always good. We will be coming back. Till next time....

Tom S.

Yelp
Reasonable fairs at reasonable prices. Ambiance is old school. Lots of booths which was just fine The BBQ Max & Cheese was very good. The clam cakes were ok, nothing spectacular. I would eat here again.

Jenny D.

Yelp
Went with a small group of friends for early ish dinner and it was very quiet, not too busy and the waiter was really nice. The price was kinda average. We also got onion rings but the batter was a bit strange and flakey instead of breaded. The beers they have are neat. They are from a local brewery nearby and the peaches and cream one was pretty good and smelled so floral and sweet. For an area with only seafood and hamburgers it was nice to be able to have something a little different

Eddie P.

Yelp
Food: 4 Service: 5 Ambiance: 4 Date/Time: 5/27/2023 7pm Crowd: 3/4 full Order: Blowing Rock Burger & fries, Fish & (kettle) Chips The restaurant was decorated in a sort of old tavern look and had wood bench booths in the area we ate. It was laid out nicely to give you privacy but the noise level was a little high. The service was excellent with plenty of attention to the drinks and checking in to make sure we were doing fine. The burger was very good. The fries were a bit on the limp side and not seasoned as much as we thought they would be. The fish was tasty as well and the kettle chips were nice and crispy. The prices were a little high though. Would definitely recommend it for the type of food on the menu.

Rose F.

Yelp
Just ok. Wait staff is attentive and friendly. Ambiance is historic brick - We were looking forward to a fresh fish dinner, and the menu was very attractive. One of our kids favorites is coconut rice, so we ordered the mahi with coconut rice and pineapple. Should have been kid heaven, but was so spicy that even the adults had to chase every bite with water. We are used to spicy Mexican and Indian. But in this case the fish and rice was just a vehicle for over seasoning. Couldn't eat most of it. The ribs were generous and good. The fried fish combo was reliably edible, but on the scale of a red lobster lunch. This place is for tourists who are not expected back.

McKenzie K.

Yelp
This was a highlight of our visit to Beaufort! Not only was the atmosphere so cool with original exposed brick, wood floors and old timey decor, the food was excellent too. Even our kids loved it and had plenty of options! Definitely recommend to stop for a bite here!

George F.

Yelp
We stopped in for dinner while staying nearby. The atmosphere and decor was outstanding. There's a real sense of history. We started with the clam chowder and seafood bisque. Both were very good. Fresh, tasty, and plenty of seafood. Maybe a bit too much salt but very well done. I was loving it at this point. I got the fried flounder "burger" with cheese grits and she got the reuben with fries. This is where it came crashing down on me. My sandwich looked good but the roll was like packing material and the founder was so dried out. There was little to no moisture in the fish. So sad. The grits were rich but tasty. Her reuben was good. Nothing special but good. Our server Kyle was outstanding. I just wish I'd stopped at the chowder. It might be worth another shot if we make it back.

John L.

Yelp
Great food, great service, have to stop everytime I'm in the Exceptional service, and the prices aren't bad either

Glenn G.

Yelp
We were wandering around Beaufort and stopped in here since it seemed to have good reviews. There was a bar area in the back but we were mainly here for lunch and were seated in one of the dining areas (this place is big!). We contemplated some entrees but felt they might fill us up too much before our drive home. My wife enjoyed her crab cake salad but I was disappointed in my special of the day: Asian fish tacos. I can't say for sure but it just tasted like they took a fish taco and put a bottled Asian sauce on it. Prices also seemed a tiny bit high for what we got, but we know inflation is hitting everyone.

Dena F.

Yelp
We ordered takeout from Clawsons during our vacation in Beaufort, and had a picnic by the harbor. I ordered fish and chips and hubs ordered shrimp and grits. Both were super delicious. Good serving sizes, crispy fish with delicious homemade potato chips and plenty of shrimp on the grits. We'll definitely be back next time we visit Beaufort.

Christophe D.

Yelp
Atmosphere was not as romantic and quaint as I was looking for but the experience of the special of the night was decadent. I had the seafood special of seared shrimp? pan seared grouper, roasted tomatoes on top of succulent butternut squash raviolis. Each bite was filled with Delightful textures and flavors. He ordered hamburger, not as tasty as what is is used to eat. So stick to the sea food here.

Rick H.

Yelp
Came to the area for a day from Indian beach. Short drive. Really neat area. Picked Clawsons for their menu variety. Had a few picky eaters with us in a large group (8). Our waitress was fantastic. The food was great. Beer selection was good. Definitely should go there if you are looking for something to eat.

Lincoln T.

Yelp
Clawson's was very busy the night I went, but we only had to wait ten minutes for a table of six. The food was okay, normal American fried restaurant food. The onion rings and pimento appetizers were average, but the crab cake was surprisingly good. Our favorite dishes were the grouper catch special and the bbq pork.

Corey M.

Yelp
Stopped for afternoon drink, I had Bahama mama and a crab cake. Husband had carrot cake and rum and Coke. Very tasty crab cake and great drink. Ambience is dark with saloony type setting. Service was great! Nice afternoon pitstop to escape the heat.

Rich D.

Yelp
Crab cakes were very very salty. That's all I could taste. Expensive for the dish. They could do better.

Denise O.

Yelp
Atmosphere is nice. One kid had an Asian rice special, the other had the shrimp Mac-n-cheese. The Asian rice dish was ok, the Mac-n-cheese was great, we all stole a few bites. I ordered the mahi mahi and key-lime pie. The mahi mahi was good, but the key lime pie was nothing special. I am a person that feels if I am on the water, the key lime pie should be fresh and not a frozen pie. Well, it was frozen and not a good one. The hubby ordered the ribs, they were slathered in sauce and tasty. All in all a good dinner in Beaufort. There are not many good restaurants in this little town but this one was ok.

Ami A.

Yelp
This is a historic restaurant with delicious bar and seafood and a large bar for drinks. Enjoyed a meal of fried seafood. Great spot!

Maile C.

Yelp
Wow! Great little spot on Front street along the waterfront. Cute spit with lots of character inside. This is my first time in this area and it was perfect after such a long flight and drive. Service was a bit slow, but was also our servers first few days of work. She was doing a great job tending to our needs. I wouldn't mind eating here again during our stay. Lots of street parking.

Vikki M.

Yelp
We enjoyed our dinner here this past fall. Cocktails were good. We ordered the hot crab dip to start and it was quiet tasty. I had the shrimp mac and cheese and the mac was fantastic and the shrimp delightfully crispy. An odd combo but it worked. Husband had the seafood burger with shrimp and enjoyed it. Mom had the crabcake appetizer and a cup of seafood bisque and enjoyed both. It wasn't very busy, service was attentive not intrusive.

Kayla D.

Yelp
We came here twice on our 4 day trip to Beaufort. Once we got takeout and the other time we came and sat down for dinner. I expected a huge wait because I read everywhere that it's a local favorite but there was never a long wait. Portion sizes for the appetizers are huge and everything was really yummy! Server was awesome. We will definitely be back.

Preston T.

Yelp
Awesome place with lots of history, food and service A++, a must see and read up on the history on how Clawson's got its start and how they kept the original name.

Dana D.

Yelp
Great food! I LOVED my shrimp scampi! I asked the server for a "to go" container but then ended up eating it all -- haha!

Steve F.

Yelp
We thoroughly enjoyed our take out meal from here. There are a couple of pretty picnic tables across the street with a view of the water. Shrimp and grits got two thumbs up as did the fish and chips. Ordering and pick up were easy and timely too. These tourists left happy!

Carolyn B.

Yelp
Fresh seafood! The fried shrimp platters was so good. Very tasty, French fries were wonderful as well as a broccoli salad. Wish I lived closer so I could come more often. Definitely worth the tri

Karen C.

Yelp
I enjoyed a late lunch with my family while visiting Clawson's on our vacation. The food was good, it had a great atmosphere, and we had good service. There was nothing spectacular but it was a solidly good restaurant. The coolest thing about Clawson's was the historic building. It has so much character. We got to sit in a cool little niche by a window. I wish I had taken a picture of it. No one got appetizers but I ordered a bowl of the seafood bisque soup. It was very good and I would definitely recommend it if you are a soup lover like me. My sister and I ordered the crab dip as our meal. It was fine but nothing special. My husband got a fried dish of flounder and shrimp with fries. He said his was good and the fries looked amazing. Wish I had tried one. My mom got the BBQ mac 'n cheese. She really liked hers and said it was exceptional. The service was good and our food didn't take very long to come out. I do suspect they are very busy during peak hours so I recommend going at an off time. We stopped in around 2:30 and were immediately seated. Beaufort is a busy area and I'm pretty sure they stay hopping. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting that area.

Winnie A.

Yelp
The meatloaf sandwich was delicious. My server, Alison , was so polite and so helpful!

Ollie C.

Yelp
This is my first time here and it was a good experience. The crab dip wasn't that great but the Mac and cheese made up for it. The vegetables were on point.

Don V.

Yelp
Last night we had Noah as our waiter. Noah was attentive, friendly and personable. The staff moved quickly and our food came out fast. The pimento cheese was incredible. The Mac and cheese was tasty and the crab cakes were delicious. Great restaurant! We eat here every time we come to a Beaufort.

Hillary K.

Yelp
Such a visually fun restaurant and delicious food. The cocktails were to die for. The appetizers were amazing. The food was phenomenal. Definitely recommend visiting if you're in the area

Mike M.

Yelp
We had lunch here. My wife and I each had the seafood burger--she had the shrimp and I had the flounder. She loved her sandwich but said the baked beans tasted like they came from a can. I had the flounder burger. The slaw, remoulade and flounder were great. The broccoli salad was excellent. My only negative was the bun. It was a bit stale tasting and the bread to fish ratio was off. Way too much bread or too big a bun. I ended up eating the sandwich in the top of the bun only and set the bottom of the bun to the side. Then it was perfect. The service was quick and good. The restaurant is in an old post office and was very cool overall. Nice place to eat a good lunch on the waterfront.

Annamaria S.

Yelp
Debbie was an excellent server and the food was fantastic! Great coffee! Moderately priced. Big portions. Beautiful interior as well!

Genna G.

Yelp
Way better than expected! We just wanted wings, that was it. We read the prior Yelp reviews (thanks everyone!) and decided to stay away from the seafood which was a good choice because the people next to us got the fried calamari and advised that we skip it. We got plain wings with sauces on the side (good!!), onion rings (good and big!!), and Mac and cheese (pretty good not great). We sat in the bar area and the service was great! Not a bad choice if you're craving beer and bar food. Seems pretty kid friendly too!

Danielle J.

Yelp
Loved!!! Great location and vibe inside!! Our service was great and quick--especially for a Saturday night (Memorial Weekend). I ordered the Mahi Salad and put the cilantro citrus dressing on it. Loved!!! I will definitely go back and will probably order it again!! We had 3 kids with us. They have front and back coloring activities for them that entertained them the whole time!! Had fun pirate activities. I kinda wanted one for myself!!

Discerning C.

Yelp
Only had drinks, can't speak to the food. Interesting furnishings/surroundings. Enjoyed the bar.

Elizabeth U.

Yelp
Delicious!! Had the grilled chicken sandwich (without the bun) as I'm celiac! Was so delicious I finished the whole plate no problem. Server was great. Such a cute restaurant with some local history.

Chad H.

Yelp
As soon as you walk in here, it just feels like it's going to be great experience! Has that old pub vibe with the early 1900s ambiance and lots of antique signs and furniture. This restaurant did not disappoint. To start out, they bring over complimentary bread. The bread was hot and fresh! Very addicting, you could get full on the bread alone if you're not careful. As an appetizer, we had the got crab dip which was delicious. Great for sharing with a large group, and the toasted flatbread was crispy and terrific for dipping. For my main entree, I had the mahi mahi which was topped with pineapple salsa over mashed potatoes, green beans, and carrots. Mahi Mahi was flavorful and cooked just right. The pineapple salsa was a nice complimentary sauce, and the sides were wonderful. Our service was pretty good. Had to remind the waitress about a second round of bread, but not the end of the world. She smiled, and seemed that she cared about her job. Smiling on the job sounds like something very simple, but it goes a long way in making the dining experience much better. If you are in Beaufort, I highly recommend dining here and going for a walk by the water afterwards. Great food, delightful service, and an old school environment!

David M.

Yelp
Nothing cheapens an evening more than a getting a check and a popular establishment passing on credit card fees. Zero knowledge ahead of time. You basically add 3% to the total cost of a meal and it's disclosed on the check. Apologies to the waitress that got less of a tip because of the cheap ass owners. Which is what the vast majority of people do in this situation. Congrats on giving your servers a pay cut. Seriously. Add .25 to a drink or charge for additional bread baskets and you can make this fee up. Just because you legally can pass on this fee, doesn't mean it's ethical or proper. Also I didn't see any signage as required by NC law to pass on the fee. The first I saw of it was AFTER my card was run, which makes this an OVERTLY SHADY PRACTICE. My family and I have come here since the 80s and will never return. Short sighted, stupid, ignorant.

Tim S.

Yelp
We eat at Clawson's only every trip to Beaufort. I told the manager they need to change the name to Clawson's Seafood Bisque. It is delectable. I have been told the clam chowder is just as good, but I don't have the courage to miss the opportunity to eat the bisque. Shrimp, oysters and flounder all are very good and worth the trip. The ambience is extraordinary. (Ask for the flag chart to learn which flag belongs to which nation.) Truly a gem.

Ron J.

Yelp
First 5 star I have given but they absolutely have the best fish and chips and their onion rings are the bomb. Gotta have the homemade ketchup, it's so good, I know it's just ketchup but you have to try it.

J W.

Yelp
We came here while staying in Beaufort, off-season during the week. We had seen some videos about Clawsons on YouTube, so we wanted to give it a try. We were happy to see the wooden booths just as we had expected from YouTube. Service was average at best. The restaurant wasn't too busy, maybe 30% capacity. Spouse ordered the fried oysters. They were terrible. Not fresh and chewy. They were also heavily breaded. I had the mahi mahi and it was just awful. It was waaaaay over-cooked and dry, Just awful. Either the chef is inexperienced or just had a very bad day. When we returned to our hotel, we told our hotel staff of our experience and they told us that Clawsons is a touristy restaurant and food is "hit or miss". We do plan to return to the area soon, but we will not be coming back here -- once was enough.

Cameron K.

Yelp
Clawson's is doing a great job handling covid. I felt very safe eating there. Clawson's has the best crab dip hands down. So much lump crab meat to scoop up with water crackers. Yum! I couldn't get enough! I ordered the crab cake sandwich with a side of kettle chips. The food came out fast and tasted delicious. Clawson's is a large restaurant with plenty of seating even with the new social distancing guidelines. All of the staff were wearing masks and practicing safe social distancing as able. As you already know my favorite part of the meal was the crab dip and sweet tea. I think I could live off that stuff! Next time I'm in the Beaufort area I'd love to eat at Clawson's again.
